Ex-con Seneca Daniels came to Restoration Ranch to rebuild her life, not fall for a man with secrets. Betrayed before, she swore never to risk her heart—or her freedom—again. Colton by LaQuette is the second book in her steamy romantic suspense series, Restoration Ranch. The book is set on and around the ranch owned by Aja Everett and the small town of Fresh Springs, Texas. Seneca Daniels works on the ranch as an IT specialist. She had been in prison for white collar crimes but was released into a program that allowed her to be on parole and work for Aja. Previously, the ranch and the staff suffered from attacks by a neighbor who wasn’t happy he couldn’t get the ranch. Three Texas Rangers had been assigned undercover to solve the crimes. Colton Adams had gotten close with Seneca but hadn’t revealed he was a Ranger and not a ranch hand. As the book opens, he is returning to the ranch to spend his time off after the resolution of the ranch issues. He plans to tell Seneca who he really is and hopefully begin a relationship. His boss contacts him to offer him a new position closer to Fresh Springs and he is thinking about it.

Seneca and Colton make plans to meet in town at the diner. Before she gets inside, she is stopped by sheriff Hastings. He is definitely dirty and tells Sen she will need to do his bidding with some hacking. When she declines, he threatens her and her boss Aja’s ability to get the permits she needs. When Sen was in prison, Hastings was the corrections officer and he forced her to do some hacking on his behalf to get money. She had initially declined then too, but he had some of his people beat her almost to death. When Colton arrives, he gives her a toe curling kiss that tells them they are both on the same page in their feelings. Then he tells her he is really a Texas Ranger and that ends her plans for steamy moments in bed with him. He comes to her house and they discuss it and he leaves. He vows to change her mind about him.

An FBI friend of Colton and team member Jackson contacts him to tell him he is working on a trafficking case involving the sheriff and he’s going to use Seneca to help him catch him. Colton is furious and tells him absolutely not. Seneca is contacted by the FBI who tells her what he needs and in return will cancel her parole to free her. She is caught in wanting her freedom and eliminating the threats from Hastings but isn’t trusting it will go well. Sen finally spends some time with Colton and they talk and end up in bed having very steamy moments. Their chemistry is off the charts and both have developed feelings. She just wants to do her job and feel safe. Both Sen and Colton have trust issues and baggage from their pasts to work through. With the added pressure from Hastings and the FBI, there is quite a bit of suspense and angst.

I found this book to be well written and I enjoyed how the author combined romance and suspense. The characters are genuine and compelling. I enjoyed the interactions between the ladies and between the Rangers. I found Hastings to be disgusting - both for his criminal acts and his blatant racism. I am excited to read the next book about Brooklyn as this story teased about more suspense and intrigue coming. LaQuette is a new to me author and I can see her passion for her work being shown in both of the books I’ve read. This is a five star book I recommend- especially if you love steamy romances with lots of suspense.

I was fortunate to receive this ARC from Tule Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

Review: Colton: A Texas Ranger Romantic Suspense

Colton blends romantic suspense with a strong redemption arc, built around secrecy, trust, and survival under pressure. The story centers on Colton Adams, an undercover Texas Ranger whose mission has forced him to build a relationship on deception, and Seneca Daniels, an IT specialist and ex-con trying to rebuild a life that already feels like it’s on fragile footing.

The core tension works on two levels: professional danger and emotional fallout. Colton’s undercover role creates the inevitable “truth reveal” conflict, but the story doesn’t treat that moment as the end of tension—it’s more like the ignition point for everything that follows. His internal struggle isn’t just about losing Seneca’s trust, but about whether redemption is possible when your “success” depends on betrayal.

Seneca is the more compelling force in terms of agency. Rather than positioning her as someone waiting to be saved, the narrative emphasizes her guarded independence and awareness of how easily she can be manipulated again. Her past as an ex-con and her history with an abuser add weight to her reluctance to trust either Colton or the systems around him. That dynamic keeps the romance from feeling simple or predictable.

The romantic arc is tightly intertwined with escalating external threats, particularly the return of a figure from Seneca’s past. This creates a dual-layered antagonist structure: Colton’s secrecy versus the very real danger Seneca faces. The result is a steady pressure cooker rather than a purely investigative suspense plot.

Romantically, the story leans into “earned trust” rather than instant connection. Even when attraction is established early, the emotional payoff is delayed by necessity—Colton’s mission, Seneca’s boundaries, and the consequences of both. That push-pull gives the relationship a sense of weight, though it also means the romance develops in fits and starts rather than continuous momentum.

Overall, Colton: A Texas Ranger Romantic Suspense is a story about competing forms of danger—external threats, hidden identities, and emotional vulnerability. It works best when focusing on Seneca’s strength and Colton’s attempt to reconcile duty with honesty, rather than relying solely on undercover tropes.

It was a weird feeling reading this book. It gave off lots of Diana Palmer vibes with the ex military Texas Rangers life in danger from criminal consortium story tropes. But it was a lot steamier and of course have lots of tough Black cowboys and heroines. LaQuette is an author I first encountered as a Harlequin Presents author so the steamy stuff isn't a surprise but the dirty talk was next level. These cowboys are super hot.
Seneca is an ex con who has come to Restoration Ranch while still on parole for a white collar crime. (There's a whole other discussion in that about the justice system there that I won't go into). She's a tech wiz and the crime involved hacking. (Another conversation about a topical subject I can't go into without spoilers.)
She and Colton got to know each other during the events of Jackson's book which is the first in the series. He was undercover as a ranch hand and now he's going to have to come clean about who he really is if he wants to go further and have a relationship with Seneca.
Now with Seneca's past, we know she has a pretty poor opinion of law enforcement. We get to know more about that when someone from her past comes around looking to drag her back into a dangerous game.
Needless to say, Colton's big reveal does not go well, but when he realises the danger Seneca is in, he's not going to back off, no how.
There's a lot of interactions with Colton's team and past connections when the guy from Seneca's past is connected to something a lot bigger.
It was really easy to like Seneca, even if I couldn't always understand or agree with her choices. She had a tough backstory and that explains a lot.
Colton is so cute. And Hot. And both main protagonists are providing lots of competency pawn.
The ending was very fast paced and I really liked the resolution. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Colton is a phenomenal second installment in LaQuette’s Restoration Ranch series. If you love a romantic suspense novel featuring a deeply devoted, military-hardened hero and a brilliant, resilient heroine, this book is an absolute must-read. What really made this story shine for me was just how much I loved the characters. Colton Adams is everything you want in a romantic lead. As a former soldier turned by-the-book undercover Texas Ranger, his fierce protective instincts are off the charts. He is torn between his duty, his secrets, and his undeniable devotion to Seneca, making him incredibly compelling and someone you can't help but root for. Seneca Daniels is the perfect match for him. She is no damsel in distress; despite her past and the immense pressure she faces, her strength, independence, and technical hacking skills make her a powerhouse protagonist. The chemistry between them is intense, passionate, and beautifully written. LaQuette delivers a wonderful balance of emotional depth, suspense, and steamy romance with characters that feel genuinely grounded and empathetic. Highly recommended for fans of military and law enforcement romance—I can't wait to see what happens next at Restoration Ranch! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I would like to thank Tule Publishing and LaQuette for the E ARC of this book. This is book 2 in the Restoration Ranch series.
Colton Adams is a Texas Ranger, he has been working undercover at Restoration Ranch where he has become friends with Seneca Davies. Seneca is an IT specialist who was imprisoned and is at Restoration Ranch to build her life again.
When someone from Seneca’s past threatens her, Colton realises that the threat is not over to the Ranch and that the target is now Seneca. Will she let him protect her or will she use her own skills and courage?
I enjoyed the plotline of this book, it was well paced. The characters were good and you felt empathy for them.
However, what I did not like was the explicit sex scenes. To me they added nothing to the plotline and honestly they could have been closed door scenes. I feel publishers should start putting warnings on their books if there are open door scenes. That way readers can decide whether to read the book or not. If I had realised how much sex was part of the book I would not have read it.

I received this e‑book as an ARC, and I genuinely enjoyed the ride. The story blends a solid plot with just the right amount of spice — enough to keep things exciting without overshadowing the narrative. The balance between tension and intimacy felt natural and well‑paced.

Both characters were well‑built and layered. Seneca’s background as a data thief and Colton’s complicated past as a Texas Ranger and dishonorably discharged soldier added depth and grit. At times, Seneca’s trust in Colton felt a little too easy given her history, but that vulnerability also made her more human and relatable.

Overall, the book delivered a satisfying mix of plot and heat, with strong character development and emotional stakes. It’s a great pick for readers who like their romance with a touch of danger and redemption.

Colton Adams is a Texas Ranger, he has been working undercover at Restoration Ranch where he has become friends with Seneca Davies. Seneca is an IT specialist who was imprisoned and is at Restoration Ranch to build her life again.
When someone from Seneca's past threatens her, Colton realises that the threat is not directed to the Ranch but the target is Seneca. She is pulled back into what she thought she'd left years ago, and the reason she's at the Ranch They both have their secrets. The pull and chemistry is very palpable between them. The plot and the book is well written. I enjoyed reading this book.

COLTON by LaQuette
Release date June 16, 2026

Colton Adams is a former soldier and now a Texas Ranger.
He has known to do everything by the book!

Seneca Daniels came to restoration Ranch to get a fresh start after being released from prison.

When Seneca’s passed comes looking for her, can Colton protect her?

There is definitely passion between these two, but their lives are so different. Do you think they’ll be able to make it?

I found this to be a very interesting read, well written and wonderful characters!

Definitely one that should be added to your TBR list!

She is slowly getting her life on track. He has been tasked with protecting her and investigating her, while hiding his true identity. It is time for him to come clean, but before he can her past comes back to create utter chaos. She has a secret of her own. Will the truth tear them apart or be the one thing that finally breaks down the walls. Such a great continuation of the story. More is yet to be revealed. Can’t wait to see what is on the horizon.

Colton has been attracted to and protective of Seneca. She’s offered the opportunity by FBI to use her hacking skills to bring down her blackmailer and he doesn’t want her to take it because he knows it’s a risk and won’t end there. She’s had to fight for what for herself and those she loves. There’s more to her criminal past, which made me appreciate how strong she is. This was a steamy protector romance.

Book two of "Restoration Ranch". The storyline picks up where book one left off. Colton knows that the only way he and Seneca have a future is if he comes clean about who he is. Not surprisingly, Seneca feels betrayed and breaks off with Colton. To complicate matters, Colton is offered a promotion and Holden tries to lure Seneca into a FBI sting operation focused on Sherriff Hastings. Can Colton keep the women he loves safe? Can he convince her that their future is destined to be intertwined?

I found Seneca and Colton's story entertaining. There's the strong attraction, the pivoting events in both their histories, and a sheriff with secrets. The dialog and intrigue keeps the reader interested. I like stories where the good guys win.

If you like romance and suspense, along with steam, this book has all three.

Seneca and Colton's story. The series continues as Colton has to now reveal who he is to Seneca. Seneca trying to get her life back after being in prison has taken a liking to Colton and is upset when she finds out he lied. This follows them working through their issues, personally and together. This was so good, can't wait for the next book.

It was an interesting enough story with an investigation—who worked on it and how it went—and a relationship development where personal obstacles at times were more important to consider than wants and feelings. It's good that the protagonists worked things out between them.

This is the first book I've read written by LaQuette; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the second book in the Restoration Ranch Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Seneca & Colton; she’s an ex-con; he’s a former soldier & Texas Ranger.
