A FUGITIVE DETERMINED TO PROVE HIS INNOCENCE.Jason Maxfield returns to Chicago after striking a deal with the CIA. It’s his former home, the place of his arrest, and the city where his whole life fell apart. He hasn’t been back since his escape from prison. And the CIA has promised to clear his name if he proves that his old partner, Tobias Johnson, set him up. But can he trust the CIA? Or are they using him for some unseen purpose?

JASON’S PAST HAUNTS EVERY STEP.He knew it would be difficult, but he never expected Tobias to still be on the lookout for him two years later. Tobias has major problems of his own and sees Jason’s sudden reappearance as an unwanted distraction. Jason soon realizes this is no simple investigation when he finds a kidnapped woman hidden in a cold dark cell. The CIA has thrust him into a high-stakes game without telling him all the players. Even though he can’t see who’s moving the pieces, the consequences of failure are worse than he could ever imagine.

BULLETS FLY, BUT JASON SOLDIERS FORWARD.The CIA promised help but refuses to become involved. He tries enlisting a friend, only to have it blow up in his face. He is left to struggle on his own to prove his innocence.

Jason is alone. Outnumbered. And not only is he fighting for his life, he’s also fighting for his future.

Can he find the evidence he needs to reclaim his life?

Will he ever stop running?

The apartment door was still cracked open when Jason arrived, but it wouldn’t have been a problem if it had been locked because he had a lockpick kit and had become so adept at using it he could almost move as fast as somebody with a key.

Apparently, Rockburn and his men hadn’t been worried that somebody might follow if they heard a scream. Another warning sign that something’s off with this place.

Voices came from the other side, but Jason couldn’t make out what they were saying as he pushed the door open several inches, ignoring a whispering, squeaky hinge and waiting a heartbeat to see if anybody responded.

Nobody came.

He stepped inside and now that he was away from the security cameras, pulled his subcompact pistol from a pocket. A Glock 43. A round was already chambered. He crept down the hallway with his tiny pistol held in two hands and his finger along the trigger guard, just like he’d done as an FBI agent.

As he approached, he smelled burned toast and had a sudden recollection of his last night as an FBI agent. The last night of his previous life.

Hard Lines

This was full of action and book 4 of 4. Overall it was pretty good with lots of mysterious interactions.
However the ending was less satisfying than it could have been.
We needed an actual conversation between Jessica and Jason .We needed to know who Bert was actually working for. Was it FBI?
We needed consequences for Grant, Congresswoman and jail for Tobias.
Too many loose ends for me but if you can live with that it’s good otherwise. It could have been 5 stars but it left me annoyed at the end.

Twists and turns.

Poor Jason can not catch a break. He is lied to and pushed to do things he doesn't want to do to clear his name and meet his daughter. Part successful and part failure. Where and when will it end?

Very inspiring!

Wonderful novel that proves the truth is not what it always is coming from government. Jason is a true fawn and player.

The Jason Maxfield series is great! These books are hard to put down. Once I finished the first book, I just had to go on to the next book. The series was finished before I knew it! Action packed!
