This is a supernatural cosmic horror story that is wicked unnerving. The twisted lives of these characters make you wonder what is real, what is illusion, and what are just mind games that the evil sickness in the woods is playing with you.
Lily may only be 13 years old but she is dealing with a lifetimes worth of grief and turmoil. Uprooted, this fierce young woman moves with her mom from the big city to a small town in northern Maine, practically on the Canadian border. This town has a long history of unfortunate deadly accidents and people going missing.
The story felt like a coming-of-age tale with Lily riding her bike around town and dealing with bullies while also taking care of her ailing grandmother. At times I found myself muttering “no,no,no,no,no” as shocking scenes played out and I scrunched myself into a tight ball with just enough room to keep reading. I wanted to cuddle with a blanket.
I was so compelled to find out what was the driving force in this nightmare that I finished it in about 36 hours, squeezing reading in at every opportunity.

This is a fast read that throws you right into the decaying heart of North Hollow. The story wastes no time setting the tone with small snapshots of some of the residence that inhabit the small town, their secrets, their dreams, and their misfortunes. I really liked these chapters.

The pacing is tight, and the ending arrives quickly, without dragging things out. There were moments that reminded me a little of Stephen King’s IT, the eerie small-town atmosphere and the sense that something old and terrible is lurking beneath everyday life. Still, the book stands firmly on its own, with its own voice.

Overall, it’s a quick, dark, and enjoyable read that keeps you turning the pages. I managed to read it in two days and I am a slow reader.

Kill this House by Arya Deep is a chilling, atmospheric plunge into cosmic horror that grips you from the very first page.

The town of North Hollow itself feels like a living, breathing entity—sick, haunted, and suffocating under the weight of an ancient evil. People vanish, corpses surface, and an unsettling sickness spreads like a curse.

At the heart of this nightmare is Lily, a young girl with a rare gift. Her sensitivity to the unseen makes her both vulnerable and powerful and watching her navigate the sinister cat-and-mouse games of the darkness is as heartbreaking as it is thrilling. Her desperate fight with the shadows adds urgency and dread, pulling the reader deeper into the mystery.

The author masterfully blends psychological unease with supernatural terror: children disappearing, figures that shouldn’t exist appearing, and the eerie “drowning sickness” that infects the town. Each element builds toward a crescendo of horror that feels both inevitable and shocking.

This book is lean, fast-paced, and impossible to put down. It’s the kind of story you can devour in a single sitting, but it lingers long after—the imagery, the dread, and the questions it raises about what lurks just beyond human perception.

If you’re a fan of cosmic horror in the vein of Lovecraft but crave a modern, emotionally resonant twist, Kill this House is a must-read. It’s unsettling, imaginative, and brilliantly executed.

Perfect for your Halloween reading pleasure.

Kevin & Andy are running from the shadow.
Lily feels things deeply and when she arrives in North Hollow those feelings amplify. There’s something wrong in North Hollow.
Children disappear. People appear that aren’t really there. A drowning sickness and as I always say this is where this story opens up! This is a brilliant cosmic horror. At just over 150 pages it is fast paced and easily read in a day!
This gave me the mist vibes and is also perfect for anyone who loved The Cold Visitor by Jonathan Butcher. Thank you so much Deep for gifting me an ARC copy! This is an easy 5 star read for me!

This was a quickly engrossing, creepy, tense ride.
I ended up reading it in one sitting.
You find yourself really feeling for the mc while also wondering how much of what she’s experiencing is real.
I will definitely be checking out more from Arya.

Kill This House by Deep Arya
Release date - October 25, 2025

Please bare with me as there is a little lead up to my review, but I promise it is worth it!

I have had the privilege of knowing Deep Arya for some time now. Not only is he an absolute wonder friend, I have been a fan of his creative mind and wonder writing style since day one.

Although Kill This House was something different for Deep. I really, really enjoyed it!

When Deep reached out to me and asked if he could send me a copy of his upcoming release alongside some goodies, I was apprehensive. Not because I didn't want to read it, of course.
Truthfully, I have been in a bad reading slump after some big changes in my life. I have tried many times to pick up a new read or even putting on an audiobook. Nothing has worked, nothing has pulled me in and I find I have to actively force myself to pick that read up or click that play button, only to have to re-read or re-listen to a parts multiple times, simply because I am not retaining it. It had become more of a chore than anything for me.

It has been gut-wrenching for me, not only had I fallen out of the book community that I adore and truly miss but I also had lost my favorite relaxing, cozy thing to do, reading.

I absolutely love reading, picking up a new world to immerse myself in but for whatever reason, nothing was working.

However, you guys!
Kill This House has changed that for me! It was this perfect bite sized delicious read that immersed me into this creepy little town of North Hollow. People are disappearing, even showing up dead. The first chapter starts "In The Forest-Covered Hills, The sunlight withdrew as the shadow grew. Two boys frantically ran for their lives." Instantly pulling me right in! I had to know what happened to these boys. Do they make it out alive? Or are they devoured by whatever is in the Shadows? - Then of course I had to know what happens to everyone else in the small town of North Hollow!
Although! there is hope for this town to survive, but it all lies on one young lady who is already fighting her own past, and now she endures this heavy task.

The characters the atmosphere! Simply put - It was all just so good! I would patiently await the moment I could pick up this read up each evening. Sadly, I read it way to fast.

I can't thank Deep enough for sending me a copy. Not only did he make sure I didn't miss out on Creep-Ville North Hollow but I can honestly say his exciting story has got me back on track with my reading.

If you have not read any of Deep's work, you honestly need to. Perhaps picking up a copy of "Kill This House" on October 25th can be your entry into his stories!

From the very bottom of me "Dark" Heart. Thank you Deep!

The main character is a 13-year-old girl named Lily, and she was kicking ass*s! She’s brave and strong-willed. I love her!

I think the author perfectly executed his vision of a “sick” town. It’s not really a physical illness, but something that threatens one’s sanity and the very fabric of reality. That fear of the unknown and the feeling of dread were palpable from chapter one.

This felt like a middle-grade horror read to me, and I would have enjoyed it even more if there had been a bunch of kids, including Lily, fighting and trying to survive the evil in North Hollow.

Overall, this was a decent spooky-month read. It deserves to be a full-length novel.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

You know those scenes where kids ride bikes through small towns that instantly spark nostalgia? This book has them and at its heart is Lilly, a fierce 13 year old you won’t forget.

Lilly moves to North Hollow with her mum to help care for her nan, but the town hides dark secrets. People are vanishing or turning up dead, and now Lilly, with her special gift, is in their sights.

At just over 100 pages, this story takes you back to simpler times when kids were bold and fearless. But don’t be fooled, the town is creepy, you can’t trust anyone, and danger lurks everywhere.

Blending psychological and cosmic horror with memorable characters, Kill This House is unsettling yet impossible to put down.

If you love books you can devour in one sitting, this one is perfect!
