Happy Furry New Year

Rate this book
Out of the Cage: Crossing the bridge between knowledge and acceptance sometimes takes a leap of faith.

Rowen St. Paul has watched his friends find their mates for years, waiting patiently for Fate to give him his own. When Wesley O’Connor—a troubled eighteen-year-old—is transferred to the school where Rowen teaches history, he’s shocked to discover that the senior is his other half. While Rowen realizes quickly that Wesley returns his desire, he plans to keep his distance…at least, until the school year is over. All that changes when the young hooligan breaks into his home and messes with his computer. Catching him in the act, they begin a steamy affair with one rule—keep it off school grounds. Between Wesley still being in the closet and Rowen needing to explain that he’s a shifter, they have enough obstacles. Still, in a small town, a secret of this nature doesn’t stay secret for long. Just as the truth is discovered by Wesley’s school bully, bad choices from the young man’s past complicates matters further, endangering not only their relationship, but their lives. Can Rowen prove to Wesley that together they can withstand the pressure?

I was kind of skeeved out about the whole teacher/student mating thing. I think if Rowen wasn't his teacher and Wesley was just a student in the school it would have been eased my mind a bit. Why this bothered me I have no idea, because I love teacher/student tropes. I guess just not in this one? Maybe because Wesley was acting like a child with the whole seduction? I don't know.

Then we get the whole ending and I was like WHAT?! I want more.

What was that whole Lyle thing about? I re-read it 4 times and I still don't get it.

Oh and I can't say I am too happy with the $0.25 CAN tax now on Extasy. People might say it's only a quarter and if it was still in the $4.00 range I don't think I would have a problem. My mind sees the first number only. I know I am weird. Now I go and I see $5.24 or something. Yeah. Over $5 for 100 pages? I guess I can wait until they get to Amazon.

Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.

It was pretty disgusting for a teacher to cross the ethical line with a student even if he was 18 years old.

Rowan was a subordinate wolf and already had a thing for young human men. Creepy. He saw the picture of Wesley before the teenager started school and masturbated to it. Yuck. Then the next day he found out that the student was in one of his classes and was his mate. The kid came on to him after class and Wesley grabbed his arm (big legal no no) and put him off. If Rowan had normal sexual and ethical boundaries, this was the time for him to get Wesley's schedule changed to another teacher. Also, if Rowan had normal sexual boundaries he would have questioned why Wesley was trying to manipulate and seduce an authority figure - maybe a history of child abuse?

And Alpha Declan was irresponsible too - Rowan told him 3 weeks later that Wesley was his mate. Knowing how strong the sexual pull was between mates, Declan should have stepped in and separated the two. DNF at this point.

Rowan did not need to be in any authority position over children or teenagers. He was a pretty pervy MC.

Ironic that currently one of the books I go back to for rereads is student/teacher.. but that is college so I don't find it that bad....

And honestly.. this isn't too bad. The younger student IS eighteen and Rowen we find out takes precautions of having someone else grade his work.. its just that it's high school!

Oh, and for being an up and coming hacker? There's practically nothing.. no mad skill display no major feat besides cracking the school.. NOTHING to warrant Jared being concerned in any way goes on.. Disappointment on that end. And not a whole lot on the finding out shifter thing.. Rowan leaves it to the last minute and seems like after a brief hesitation of panic.. all is back to good in the world.. so so right there for me.

Overall.. kind of boring.. and The title makes no sense since there's nothing about it besides being away with homophobic family for a few days... This addition did not make any waves for me. But... I kind of want to go back and reread Jared again :)

After watching his friends find their mates, Rowan St. Paul wishes he could find his. When a troubled teenager transfers into his history class, he realizes that Wesley O’Connor is his mate. He also realizes that he can do nothing until Wesley graduates. But Wesley has other ideas. He breaks into Rowan’s home to mess with his computer and is caught. They begin a steamy affair that must remain out of the school. But secrets have a habit of being discovered and Wesley’s past mistakes catch up with him. Soon more than their relationship is on the line. Their lives may be in danger as well.

Matings never go easy in Stone Ridge and Rowan’s Wesley’s is no exception. They have to work hard together to ensure their love can blossom. No problem for Rowan and Wesley who grows so much. Another excellent addition to the Wolves of Stone Ridge Series.

The sex this time is a lot harder and nastier than I remember from this author. Odd contrast to Rowen’s initial personality too. He seemed so meek at first.

He’s quite out of line though. Eighteen is not the magical number, you know? This is his pupil he is having sex with, plus he does not ascertain a whole lot of consent…
Still, in some ways their relationship worked for me. Perhaps a sex-centered youth like Wesley makes sense in a rowdy, sexually driven and quite possibly dependent relationship.

Or maybe part of it is that finally a book in this series feels like a full story again. So, even though I don’t care deeply for either of the protagonists, it made for a nice addition to the overall story.
Or perhaps I was just in that perfect place of sleepiness while reading it? Who knows.

This one was a touch squicky for me since one MC, though over 18, was still a student at the other MC's high school, not to mention MC2's student, AND they didn't wait until MC1 was out of school to begin their relationship.

Also, the ending felt rushed and incomplete. I want to know how they managed

Sorry, just too many plot holes in the end.

Also, I'm tire of tongues being described as appendages. It has happened in this and at least the previous two books of this series.

New year, new student, shouldn't be difficult for Rowen until the new student steps through the door. His new student is his mate. How is he going to be able to keep his hands off the younger man for the remainder of the school year let alone explain that he's a wolf shifter and the young man's mate? Wesley can't explain why he's so drawn to his new history teacher, but he wants nothing more than to be closer to Rowen. Needless to say their mutual attraction puts them in an awkward situation sooner than later, but together they muddle through. The story line easy draws you in and my only wish is for it to continue.

This was a well constructed shifter world with a very smooth plot flow. The characters are simply engaging, fun, and very supportive of each other. Wesley and Rowen were good together despite the age difference. The only portions of the story that had me cringing were the homophobic parts (can do without them), however, the story as a whole was sweet and enticing. =)

Kinda ended abruptly. Maybe there’ll be more in another book? It’s funny how this one didn’t make me uncomfortable like Freeing Demetri’s Mate and The Mountain Man’s Mate did even though Wesley was younger than them. I guess it’s the sexual inexperience that makes me uncomfortable along with the age. Which is odd since I skim or skip over that part anyway. *shrug*

3.5 star reveiw by Tara

In the 27th book of the Wolves of Stone Ridge, Happy Furry New Year, We meet Rowen St. Paul, a shifter and teacher of history at the local school in Stone Ridge. He has watched his friends find their mates for many years and is patiently waiting for his own. On a poker night, he is approached by Jared who shows him a file of a young man that will be coming into his class. He was expelled for hacking into his old school’s system and changing a grade. After agreeing to keep an eye out, he heads home. But Rowen has a secret only few know. He has a thing for much younger men and after seeing the young man’s picture, his interest is peaked.

Wesley O’Conner is a closeted eighteen years old with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He has long since known he was gay and indulges whenever he can with older men. It seems everything is okay as long as they are mature, hung, and know what they are doing in the sack. He obviously has issues. When they both meet each other on Wesley’s first day in school and in Rowen’s history class; Rowen realizes that they are mates. This poses the obvious problem of how to hold out on claiming him until the last half of the school year is over. Wesley is also instantly attracted to Rowen although he has no idea why it’s so different than the other men and sets out to seduce his teacher. After a couple of weeks of wearing tight clothes, sharing glances, and displaying of crotches, Wesley has the brilliant idea of breaking into Rowen’s home. Rowen of course is a shifter so no one is going to break into his home without him noticing, especially a human. He catches him in the act and claims Wesley as his. This starts their relationship, as Rowen tries to prove that Wesley is worth loving, and figuring out how to tell him he’s a shifter, and Wesley trying to come out as gay to his family and telling the real reason why he was hacking in the first place.

It was a good book to read, but I do not recommend reading it as a standalone. This far into a series, there are a lot of characters from the other books popping in and out. I did like Rowen. He was the ordinary wolf shifter, waiting for his mate, happy for his friends but wanting his turn. Wesley took a bit to grow on me. He had a cockiness that I couldn’t stand almost like he thought his ass was the holy grail of asses. I get that he was young and had a bit of trouble but that attitude would have had me smacking him into next week. I like the dynamics between the two mc’s. Rowen definitely established he was the alpha male of the two and was very comfortable with his sexual preferences, which he should have been since he was so much older than Wesley.

Once Wesley let his guard down and when we got a glimpse into how cold his home life was, I could understand why he acted the way he did. He was searching for any piece of affection he could get and because of that he got into a lot of trouble. One part I didn’t like was how easy his bullying problem got solved. I mean I get that we couldn’t go into too much detail but I am fan of action along with the loving so I missed that. Although I will say compared to the other books there was a lot more sex in this one. There was no doubting that they were both hot for each other and the sex was off the charts. It was a satisfying read as I have been avid reader of this series since it began. So if you are into the series like me, you will not be disappointed.

Rowen St. Paul has a problem a serious problem, this handsome shifter has found his mate and it is not a good time for it to happen. Being a Teacher it was easy to come up with words to define his newest and biggest issue...Taboo...Restriction...unsavory...Banned...not to mention his very own Eww factor flowing through his mind. Yet the heart wants what the heart wants. When you add to that epic realization, that your body betrays you at the mere thought of a forbidden temptation in one alluring captivating horny mate. Who is not only 18 and unfortunately sitting in his class room staring right back. Indecision and apprehension wars in Rowen; whenever he is near or thinks of Wesley O'Conner one bratty intelligent geek who has no qualms about chasing and taking what he wants. Fate has a sense of humor on occasion and gives a shifter who has waited for more years than he cares to think about. Rowen knows he cannot and should not touch. Fate forgot to give that memo to one very sexy lusty Wesley. Who bombards Rowen at every turn with entertaining seduction; this wild one has a few cards unknowingly up his sleeve ... the mate bond and pull on his side quickly destroying any Fences Rowen dubiously built. The chemistry between them is explosive, watching their romance run hot an cold is breathtaking. Is it right or wrong, really does not matter because for these two "Life is perfectly imperfect" and sometimes that's what you get. Together they will have to find the strength in order to survive their own emotional baggage's a few bullies and an intolerant family, not to mention Wesley's graduation.

I loved this story. Just as I have loved all the ones previous. We get to read a wonderful love story with a few nasty people in there also, but that is ok because they get taken care of by some of the guys we have met in previous stories. Always nice to see old friends again. Great romance, great characters! Can't wait to see who shows up and what happens in the next one! Wesley and Rowan are amazing characters!

To be perfectly honest at this point (book 27!) I’ve completely lost track of who is who in this universe, but seeing as the previous characters serve primarily the “colourful supporting background” role I don’t think it matters that much. The relationship this time is a slightly risque teacher/student combo, but . All in all, an agreeable morning commute read.

I'm a sucker for illicit relationships and nothing is better than a little teacher/student action. Add in a werewolf shifter element and that's money baby! !
This book was bomb. Com... Charlie Richards must be in a certain mood bc she doesn't usually do characters this young but the last few books have been young guys and then the vamp series has an underage mate! HOTNESS!

They could have met in other circumstances since they were in the same small town. Wesley have eighteen years, Rowen was almost immortal sure they have big difference age but Rowen and Westley have really good chemistry and love is love as long it's consensual.

After reflexion it's surprising no one notice the number of tease-seduction of Wesley to Mister Rowen in class.

A student and his teacher

I'm not usually into student-teacher relationships. This one went full steam from the get go, which I was also a bit uncomfortable with. I also noticed several typos. So for those reasons I have it 4 stars instead of the usual 5.

I continue to read this series because I am invested in the pack members. I enjoy the stories, but I am not finding them as compelling as I once did. Still - an overall good story.

Really would have liked to see the fallout with the school and see Wesley graduate with a preview of his future plans.
