Avery has no memory of going missing. But when a poster with her face on it invites her to her own vigil, she realizes something is terribly wrong.
At the vigil, no one can see her except Ellis, a stranger who seems to break the rules of her ghost-like state. As the two retrace her final steps, Avery begins to uncover the truth behind her disappearance. But the more she remembers, the closer she comes to a terrifying she may not be dead... but she’s not exactly alive either.
Now caught between two worlds, Avery must confront the truth of who she was, how she got here—and whether she still has the strength to be found.
Content Unseen includes themes of drug use, emotional abuse, neglect, trauma, and mental health struggles.
The Unraveled Minds Seriesdelivers stand-alone clean, quick, binge-worthy YA psychological thrillers about fractured realities, fragile hope, and the desperate human need to be seen.
“I was still here. Not gone. Not lost. Just waiting to be noticed.”
Haunting, tender, and quietly devastating, Unseen wraps its fingers around you from the opening page. Before long, you're powerless to look away as its grip gets tighter with every subsequent chapter.
Lizzie Koops takes a familiar premise and makes it feel startlingly fresh—using absence, memory, and half-seen truths to build a story that aches with longing. Avery’s liminal existence is beautifully depicted, and the slow unravelling of who she was, what happened, and what it means to be seen lands with emotional precision rather than shock tactics.
Ellis is the perfect counterweight: grounded, gentle, and just real enough to anchor a story drifting between worlds. Together, they make the mystery feel incredibly intimate as well as suspenseful.
Quietly creepy and deeply human; this is a ghost story with a pulse—and a heart.
When Avery shows up to her own vigil, she realizes no one's talking to her…literally. There's this one guy Ellis who can see her though. As they try to piece together what went down, Avery's memories start coming back. But the more she remembers, the more she realizes she's losing her grip on the life she knew. Now she has to figure out the truth before it's too late. I don’t usually read YA fiction, but this novella really surprised me. From the very first page, Avery is attending her own vigil, so of course you’re immediately hooked.
I don’t want to say too much because some books are best experienced without spoilers—but even if you’re not a big YA reader, this is a great one to pick up. It’s a quick read and definitely a page turner.
I’m a huge fan of psychological thrillers but can’t say that I’ve read many that are classified as YA . Well that might need to change now as I loved this one.
The story follows Avery as she attends a vigil marking her own yearlong disappearance. She can’t remember what happened, and no one seems to be able to see or hear her except for a single stranger.
This is a one sitting read as you race to find out what is going on with Avery with tension building as the story takes some dark turns.
If you enjoy emotionally charged thrillers with a suspense-driven story and want to try a YA read then this one is absolutely worth your time.
I am not usually a fan of psychological thrillers but this is a beautifully written short novel on trauma, neglect, and recovery.
Our FMC Avery turns up to her own Virgil a year after she went missing but noone can hear her, except... Ellis. This is a story of the psychological effects of adverse childhood experiences, substance use and feelings of loneliness and isolation. It gets you thinking about connection and how things can take a turn so quickly. I did enjoy this book and would deffo read future work.
UNSEEN by Lizzie Koops is a gripping YA psychological thriller that’s both emotional and suspenseful. The story moves quickly, pulling you in from the start, and delivers a powerful message about the universal desire to be seen and understood. The characters are well written, easy to connect with, and ones you genuinely root for as the tension builds. A fast-paced, heartfelt read that lingers with you even after the final page. Highly recommend!
Wow!!!! Wow!!!! That's what I said! So freaking scary that Avery's life was in the hands of the one person who could see her glimmer, Ellis. The race to save her life and follow the bread crumbs to find her body. So freaking glad Ellis could help her, and build a strong relationship to help her branch out to save others from ending up like her. It was sad that her parents were only using her disappearance to be in the spotlight.
Unseen is a haunting, fast-paced YA psychological thriller that pulls you in from the first page. Its eerie premise and fractured reality create constant tension, while the emotional depth gives the story real weight. Avery’s journey is unsettling, compassionate, and impossible to put down. A compelling read for fans of psychological twists and character-driven suspense highly recommended.
When Avery finds out that she’s at her own vigil and has been missing for a year, she doesn’t know if she’s dead or alive. Then, she meets Ellis. This story was such a page-turner that I read it all in one sitting. With vivid characters in a race against time to find out what truly happened to Avery, Unseen will have readers on the edge of their seats.
