This book was very informative and had a great insight into the political system surrounding FDR’s career and the aspects that shaped his rise to the presidency. The extensive analysis of the Democratic Party & the information about the New Deal and subsequent work programs developed during the first two terms of FDR’s administration were very interesting. I already knew he had the programs put into place in order to provide jobs during the depression but the amount of politicians who were against the efforts is amazing and often parallels current day political parties. The author was a reporter and journalist in D C during the 30’s -40’s and had a lot of hands on knowledge of the time period and also was in the Roosevelt family sphere to some extent. I enjoyed the analysis of the multiple terms of FDR’S presidency and the insights into what he did to really try and support the citizens of the United States. His upbringing & items concerning his polio & loss of use of his legs ( for the most part) were also covered along with how his wife and he carved out a working relationship. The pictures in the book were very interesting. If you don’t want to read a lot of pages about the political process and environment of Washington between the two parties & the Supreme Court, during this time period, then you probably shouldn’t read the book.
