I swore I wouldn’t fall for him. Now I’m pregnant with his baby.

I’m assigned to rehab my boss’s son, Weston Briggs, the team’s star center, locker room menace.

He’s arrogant, relentless, and hotter than sin in skates, but completely off-limits.

Worse, he knows it and makes it his mission to test every line I draw.

Then one late-night workout turns into a stare too long.

A dare. A touch. A kiss.

And suddenly I’m in his hotel room, backed against the wall, breaking every rule I swore I’d never bend.

I tell myself it’s just stress. Just chemistry. Just a mistake.

But then he lets his guard down, tells me how it feels to never be enough.

He shows up to practice early just to make me smile.

He memorizes my coffee order, even when I’ve iced him out.

And one night, as he sleeps in my bed, I realize I’ve already fallen for the one man who could ruin me.

Because now I’m ten days late..

And if the league finds out who got me this way, we’re both finished.

Offside Enemy by Esther Jade is a quick and fast-paced read that left me wishing for more substance and more of the true enemies-to-lovers tension I expected. I kept waiting for a deeper emotional connection rather than the focus on sneaking around.

Weston and Sloan are presented at first as a very unlikely pair, and I genuinely loved that dynamic. Sloan’s role as a highly educated woman working as a coach in the NHL is rare and refreshing. Her strength, ambition, and determination made her instantly compelling.

Weston, on the other hand, begins the story as the classic nepo star. His father is the team’s coach, his performance has slipped, and repeated injuries place him at risk of being benched. Sloan is assigned to rehab him, and their shared college history resurfaces quickly. I wanted more development from both characters, especially Weston. Their college spark seemed to carry forward without giving readers the richer emotional groundwork I hoped for. Sloan had the potential to become an Olympic athlete before her injury changed everything, and she built a new career through resilience and grit. Weston sometimes came across as far less mature, and I wanted to see him rise to meet her.

At times the story leaned into moments that felt overly sentimental, particularly in scenes where the team held signs and launched a media campaign around their relationship. These elements were playful, yet they softened the emotional impact the romance could have carried, and I found myself wishing for a more grounded approach.

I am always drawn to an accidental pregnancy storyline, and when it finally appeared, it was exactly the plot direction I had been hoping for. However, it arrived so late that it barely had room to shape the characters or influence their relationship. I felt genuinely disappointed because this moment could have been the heart of the entire novel and had the potential to transform their dynamic in meaningful ways.

I have read hockey romances that offered a deeper emotional arc, and this one leaned more toward a light and easy read. The romance felt soft, and the push and pull occasionally became frustrating. The ending also wrapped up quickly, which left me wanting more time with the characters.

Overall, I would recommend Offside Enemy to readers who enjoy lighter romances that focus on a soft, low-angst love story where the couple cares for each other from the beginning. It is a gentle, happy-ending romance that delivers sweetness more than conflict.

Offside Enemy by Esther Jade

Sloane and Weston's story is a great enemies to lovers, workplace romance. Sloane is Weston's rehab and performance coach, and Weston is also the bosses son. One thing leads to another and then Sloane realizes she is pregnant and this is their story. I enjoyed reading their story, I like the storyline and thought the story is well written.

Rehabilitating the Boss's Son

When Sloane is called to help rehabilitate the bosses son Weston, they can't help the attraction between them. This was an intense story with complex emotions and plot points that added a layer of intrigue. I could not put it down.
