Some dead men tell tales. Some little girls have tails.
What if, somehow, no memory ever was lost? What if there was a place that held on tight to everything that had ever happened? What if you were unfortunate enough to fall into it?
Sette's mission to collect a debt for her father, the Lord of Thieves, takes a turn for the weird when she tries to rouse Duane, her supernaturally gifted corpse of a companion, from his nighttime stupor, and she's forced to learn more about her attack zombie than she ever wanted to. Sette has the skills that come with her title, but a mad land of monsters awaits, each one hoarding secrets, each one ready to bite. And what could be worse than this embattled sojourn through the Land of the Dead? A betrayal of the first order, and the first true test of Sette's mettle.
The richly illustrated, wildly imaginative dark fantasy series continues with a startling, deliciously twisty new chapter!
WHICH MEANS MY MOST BELOVED IS AVAILABLE IN PRINT AT YOUR NEAREST BOOKSTORE!!!!!
Volume 2 of Unsounded has us upping the ante: Sette is meeting with her crime boss cousin, the Red Berry Boys are leaving a train of bodies, the Crescian Peaceguard are on their tail, and (most importantly) we get a peak into Duane's life in Alderode—and into the instigating action of the entire plot.
And! Even more importantly! Lemuel Adelier, Duane's younger brother and a captain in the Aldish military branch The Lions of Mercy, makes his first official appearance! He is probably my all time favorite character in anything ever, and I am so happy that he is now sitting on a shelf in Barnes and Noble right now. What an insane concept.
Anyway, things are really kicking off in this Volume, and we're beginning to get a look behind everyone's masks. We all want to live in our best worlds, but our worst day is always lurking, waiting to pull us under.
Please read Unsounded!!!!!!!!!! I can't say much else without spoiling it all!!!!!! Just trust me!!!!!!!
Art is still fantastic and I really liked the interactions between Sette and Duane in this one. I appreciate the back story to understand Duane a bit better, but it took up so much of this volume that I felt like everything else had to rush to fit in. I also feel like there's a bit more "crude" humor in the art this time around, I just hope it doesn't rely to heavily on that when the surrealism stuff really takes the cake in my opinion. I luckily found Sette a little easier to understand this time around, even with her dialect. I find myself doubting I'll continue this series further though.
Got my copies of vol. 1 and 2 through the Kickstarter! Beautiful work, of course, as anyone already familiar with the webcomic knows. It's a fleshed-out world, ugly and beautiful, with complex characters. There's a very short "side story" at the end featuring a younger Ana and Knock in this volume, too.
