If you haven’t read book 1 “Trial of the Gods” go do that first and then come back and read this review!!
Oh… my… gosh!!! Molly Frances has put out a masterpiece once again. One of the most unique takes on Greek mythology that I have ever read!
This book was entertaining… actually, rephrase… the whole series has been amazing!!! It was emotionally dramatic, it was peak comedy, it was intense battle. The plot was perfectly lined out to pick up where book one lets off and it kept that momentum going!
I loved this book because we get to explore the inter-relationships between all the characters. The Tyler/Zoe dynamic we definitely had to have, Alec and all his brooding. The introduction of the actual Gods in the dialogue versus them just being these behind the scenes characters.
I couldn’t be happier with how this book turned out! Not to mention that ending… I am so unwell… the author has me hanging from that cliff like my life depends on it!!

This book is a little slower than the first book, but that allows for more time spent with the characters and more exploration of a world where the gods have returned.
the story doesnt shy away from the way trauma affects people, and I love the tension it creates in relationships when characters react differently than expected. theres an underlying sense of dread that follows the story as it unfolds, leaving you wondering almost afraid to keep reading.
zoe's character growth is fascinating to read and im really excited to see where it goes in the next book, especially given the new information thats revealed.
the plot builds slowly, but once it picks up it does not stop and you cant put this book down until the last word

Rise of the Champion took everything I loved about the first book and somehow made it even more emotional.
One thing Molly Francis absolutely excelled at was portraying grief. Zoe’s journey through loss felt incredibly raw and authentic. Grief isn’t a straight line, and this book doesn’t pretend it is. It shows the anger, confusion, guilt, numbness, and the impossible task of figuring out who you are when the person you’ve become no longer feels familiar. It was heartbreaking in the most honest way.
Watching Zoe navigate all of that while still being expected to survive, make impossible decisions, and carry the weight of everything around her made me admire her even more. She’s such a resilient, complex female lead, and her strength comes from the fact that she keeps going even when she’s falling apart.
And then there’s the romance. I loved that it never overshadowed her healing. Instead, the frenemy dynamic only added another layer of emotional conflict. The tension, the frustration, the vulnerability—it all felt so well-earned because it developed alongside Zoe’s personal journey rather than replacing it.
Molly balances fantasy, emotion, and character development beautifully. This wasn’t just a sequel that continued the story—it deepened every relationship and every emotion. If you’ve ever experienced grief, there’s a good chance parts of Zoe’s journey will stay with you long after you’ve finished the final page.

The story picks up shortly after the ending of book 1 and hits the ground running. The quick paced plot focuses on more of the minor Greek gods, which was refreshing but also sometimes tested my knowledge and took me out of the story.
Zoe has one goal in this book: save her friends. She reluctantly works with Alec, who continues to be an *sshole. It took me a long time to warm up to him in book 1 and I'm still not entirely convinced that I like him. I do, however, adore Tyler. He's the supportive, sarcastic best friend the story needed to break the tension and provide that comedic relief.
I'm heartbroken after that ending and will most definitely be reading the rest of the books when they’re released.

Yet again the author, has you on the edge of your seat, whether it’s heart stopping action or crying into your pages, or both!! Loved this book, the pages didn’t stop turning!!
