Eight years ago, Max Langdon disappeared from Beth's life without a trace. Now he's back: rich, persistent, and gorgeous.

Beth doesn't want anything to do with him. She has a mortgage to pay and a good job as a cocktail waitress at the exclusive Silver Cross Club, and the last thing she needs is Max's particular brand of excitement.

But when Max reveals he has a lead on their long-lost mutual friend, Beth has to take the chance. As they slowly rekindle their relationship, Beth begins to discover that she doesn't really know Max at all.

If she turns him away, she'll miss out on the love of a lifetime. But if she lets him back into her heart, she risks losing everything.

Max can be a pretty blunt person, "it's not a trick," I said. "I'm not going to offer to show you my etchings and then whip my d*** out of my trousers." He's the type of man who likes to tease, "mm, you certainly are a woman," he said, drawing me closer. "Now tell me again how much you hate me." His thoughts oh his thoughts at times killed me, "Christ, I loved that. A woman who rolled her eyes at you during sex was a keeper." I loved this book and the second chance romance that came with it.

Beth met and fell for Max 9 years ago while living on the streets after her grandmother died and her mother was in jail. Although her life was hard she knew she had Max and Renzo her other best friend on the street, that was until, one night - the night Max disappeared from her life.
Fast forward to today.... Beth now has a job as a head waitress at a sex club and although she is happy with her lie now a good paying job, an apartment of her own and a book in its writing stages.
Until the night Max shows up at her work... She remembers him, still loves him but won't take him back because of what he did.

Max lived a brief time on the streets - a little getaway from his uber cushy life, and wealth. Leaving his family he meets Renzo 1st then Beth or Bee as he affectionately called her,but when a terrible accident has him return to his family he leaves Beth, the hardest decision of his life, he loved her back then and now wants her back and he uses the bait of tracking down Renzo to get her, and that is when she finally gives in they head off on a trip to track him down.

Their visit to Renzo is more and less than either expects, Renzo wans nothing to do with Max but is stoked to see Beth, it is then we find out Renzo never passed on the letter to Beth that Max left for her when he returned to his old life.

Soon after when all comes out and Beth discovers that Max lied to her and that Renzo hid the evidence, Beth moves and isolates herself from both men. Both Renzo and Max do everything they can to get her to forgive, but she is so strong willed and tempered that it must be done on her terms. It us now that Beth must figure if holding a grudge is better than dealing with the fact that she loves Max and what happened in the past be left there and move on with the only man she ever loved or remove them from her life completely and begin a new.

always happy to read a good Amazon freebie, as this was.

I continue on the Silver Cross Club Book Series with book 4, accidentally missing #3. I was assured by Bec Linder that this one is a stand alone novel and can be read out of order. I do recommend reading 1 and 2 as the Sadie and Elliott's best friends are side characters in this book. May cause a bit of a mess in your head if you don't and all in love with her writing and decided to go back.

Bec Linder is becoming a favorite of mine. Her writing style is easy going freeing and yet still capturing all in the same breath. She doesn't hold back on the emotions and keeps it moving. Her characters are often raw and broken but by the end the HEA has you rejoicing for them.

In this book both the main characters loose so much! Sadie loses everything. Her fiance, her job and just hits rock bottom. Elliot loses his himself and needs his start up company to sky rocket in order to prove himself to his father. The two odd couple come together when Carter (male main character from book 1/2) refers Sadie to his best friend Elliot for a job helping him brand his company. Its a perfect setup for an odd pairing to kindle a flame! "RAISE EYEBROWS"

I tip my Nerd Girl hat to you for a 3rd time Bec Linder!! Now onto the next book I missed!!

GIVEN AS AN ARC COPY HONEST REVIEW AND NO SPOILERS.
Wow - What an emotional heart wrenching story. Beth and Max - after all this time. Why is he here. Memories of a time best forgotten. But I can't forget. Can't forget Max or Enzo. I loved them - still do but does time heal.
This made me feel as if I was walking in Beth ' s shoes, which is good and to decide how to deal with what life dishes out.
Very very very good story, and enjoyed it so much

I struggled through some of this book. Max was not the alpha billionaire I was hoping for. Good storyline otherwise.
