"𝐀𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜." - 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤𝐮𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬.

A world where magic has been erased.
An ancient prophecy begins to stir.
And a kingdom marches toward its own unraveling.

When the great city of Saan is reduced to ash and silence, the King’s Army is sent east to eradicate the Gray Cloaks—an ancient, reclusive order accused of treason and of wielding a long-forbidden magic. As villages burn in the name of justice, Magnus, a disciplined young officer longing only to return home, begins to question the truth carried beneath the King’s banners.

Elsewhere in Lavonshia, Aurelia’s quiet life shatters when Gray Cloaks interrupt her village’s Harvest Festival with a dire warning. Forced to flee the only home she has ever known, she is drawn into a widening conflict shaped by prophecy, ancient power, and a corruption spreading through the land itself.

As war fractures the Kingdom of Lavonshia, loyalties break, myths awaken, and long-buried forces begin to rise. What was once dismissed as legend may be the only thing standing between the realm and total ruin.

Storm Grazer Rising is the first book in The Lavonshia Chronicles, an epic fantasy series featuring forgotten magic, immersive worldbuilding, and a slow-burn escalation toward an inevitable reckoning.

Eric Munger's debut novel, 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜, was featured in the April 1 edition of Kirkus Reviews Magazine!

𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 is the first book in 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀, an epic fantasy series set in a world where ancient forces awaken, kingdoms fracture, and ordinary people are forced into extraordinary choices.

Eric finds himself drawn to stories that explore power, ambition, loyalty, and friendship — especially the ripple effects of choices made under pressure. He believes fantasy works best when the world feels lived-in, shaped by flawed characters, difficult decisions, and consequences that refuse to stay contained.

A diehard UNC Tarheels fan, Eric is from NC but most days finds himself traveling across the country full time with his wife Jessica, and their cat Toby, in their RV. A fan of National Parks, he often draws inspiration for his stories from mountain, forest, and desert vistas they explore.

It’s been a minute since I read an epic fantasy that so throughly invested me in the world with more a “show, don’t tell” approach.

I was throughly invested in Aurelia’s journey, and I loved having one of the female main characters who was discovering things about the magic system, and even her own past and family secrets, little by little as the story progressed, so that it felt like were learning alongside her, instead of being force fed a bunch of information we were forced to remember and dissect.

Each of the side characters added something memorable to the story and truly touched the reader’s heart, no one mentioned was there for superfluous wasted time, but each contributed so much to the storyline, and so many of them captured my attention so completely that I only wished for more of them in the story!

Fantasy as a genre will always have my heart, and will always be my first love, and books like this are why.

This is an adventure you can completely lose yourself in, the fantastical elements providing epic escapism in its purest form. And yet in spite of that, the characters flaws, their mistakes, and their over arching humanity made this story relatable and one I think even readers new to fantasy would be captivated by.

I cannot wait for Book 2, and to get another glimpse into Eric’s brilliant mind! I already bought an extra copy of this book to gift to someone and am sure I will buy more so my friends and family can come along on this journey with me!

Eric, I’m a fan for life! Truly incredible debut novel.

This book was incredibly well-written. I’m a grammar nerd through and through, so when I read books with grievous spelling or punctuation errors, I can’t enjoy it like I want to. So the fact that this book has virtually no errors made it that much more enjoyable for me to read!

The next thing I appreciated about this book is that it was clean - no profanity, no sexual content, no graphic violence. It is an example of how a fantasy book can be written for adults without the need for “gratuitous” filth that some content creators seem to think makes a book more “true-to-life.” It’s never necessary, and it makes books like this so much more enjoyable to read when they don’t include it.

Next, the world-building. I absolutely loved the spacing out of the revelation of this world the author has created. He didn’t spend pages on pages explaining his world in detail as some authors do. We were able to discover the world through the eyes of the characters as they experienced the different parts of the world in real time. I also appreciated the back story given for many characters that helped to enhance the picture of what this world is like.

And finally, I appreciated the nods to Biblical themes and places. Maybe I read too much into it, but I detected a Garden of Eden in the book. And the way the magic in the land gave power and strength to those who needed it without them having to go through years of training to learn to control it themselves - it seemed to me to be a picture of how the Holy Spirit enables believers to wage war against the Enemy in spite of our inherent weakness. (I have more specific examples of biblical pictures, but I don’t want to give spoilers!)

There are a couple of minor pieces of feedback that I have for the author: while I did appreciate the characters’ back stories and 3-dimensionality, there were times that I felt like their words or actions weren’t consistent with the character or personality the author had developed for them. Also, some characters felt like they matured too quickly in the book, rather than having a clearer progression and growth storyline. Another thing is that there were portions of the book that felt like the characters were essentially wasting valuable time waiting for the next thing to happen (instead of taking advantage of that time to learn something that may be beneficial for what’s to come or to train in self-defense or fighting, etc).

Overall, I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read the sequel!

Did Not Finish

I unfortunately had to DNF at 100 pages in. Let me start off by saying IT IS NOT BAD.

This is the authors debut novel and it shows. That is not a negative statement. I felt like the book was technically well written, the plot and world had promise, and there was a decent variety in the cast of characters.

The issue for me was a lack of connection. I personally do tend to struggle connecting to characters in 3rd person. I can connect, but the characters need to have depth and a well defined “voice”. After the 3rd time reading about the FMC blushing around men I just completely lost respect for her and didn’t even want to try to connect to her anymore. The MMC was better, but still missing an emotional depth that I crave as a reader. I feel like the clunky pacing hindered the characters greatly. The author just threw us into the meat of the plot and spent a lot of time focusing on the tiny details of the world and not enough time fully fleshing out the characters for my taste.

So in short, I would try this author again once he has “grown” some but as for this book I’m not the target audience. I think people who don’t need character connection as much as I do and can just vibe out and enjoy a cool world/magic system would greatly enjoy this. Also, remember though that I only made it to page 100 so I can’t speak on anything past that point.

This was one of the best fantasy books I've read in awhile! With a wonderful ensemble cast of characters and fascinating world building, it draws you into the world of Lavonshia and strikes the perfect balance of exposition without infodumping, trusting the reader to keep up.

The male and female characters are all well rounded and each feel distinct, with unique strengths and flaws, not to mention the delightful magical creatures and magic mechanics that are part of this story. Multiple POVs keep you on your toes and is used very purposefully to reveal things to the audience. Though the very beginning and a portion of the middle felt a bit slow, it was never dull or boring, and everything that happened was purposeful.

If you're anything like me, I love catching onto details and things mentioned in passing about characters and character dynamics and I LOVE making predictions about what I think will happen. Nothing is ever so heavyhanded that it's eyerollingly obvious, but if you like to fit the pieces together as they are given to you, so far, some predictions have turned out very satisfyingly (and some I'm still waiting on!).

Storm Grazer Rising is an inspiration of a first-time novel! The series has a strong beginning and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

Storm Grazer Rising was a solid read. At first it was an adjustment to read in the 3rd POV but I quickly got use to it and even loved it. The author transitioned flawlessly between the characters in real time.

The story that follows Aurelia from nearly the very beginning of her life to now, a quest that she was thrown into where she knows little to no details about. So much happens in this book that I can’t believe it all happened within one book. Which amazes me but also confuses me. My concept of time in this book is non existent. I think there was two or three instances where a vague mention of possible time between one event to another. This is totally a personal nutty preference on my part and something I noticed but did not stop my need to continue.

I have so many questions but alas, this is only book one and I must wait for the rest of the series to get my answers. Can’t wait for more!

**spoiler alert**
Don’t get attached to side characters (even those there for a few pages) because your heart will break. Repeatedly. 😭

Storm Grazer Rising by Eric Munger launches The Lavonshia Chronicles with a sweeping epic fantasy grounded in political fracture, forgotten magic, and the slow ignition of prophecy across a collapsing kingdom.

The story opens in the aftermath of catastrophic destruction, immediately establishing a world where truth is controlled by power and history is rewritten through force. The King’s Army’s campaign against the Gray Cloaks sets the stage for a narrative shaped by moral uncertainty, where loyalty and justice are increasingly indistinguishable from propaganda and fear.

Through Magnus, a young officer caught between duty and conscience, the novel explores the psychological strain of participating in a system that may be built on falsehoods. His arc provides a grounded, human perspective on large-scale military and ideological conflict, making the broader political tension more immediate and personal.

Aurelia’s storyline introduces the second major thread, shifting the focus toward survival, displacement, and the awakening of forces long dismissed as myth. Her journey from isolated village life into a wider, dangerous world adds urgency and emotional stakes to the unfolding prophecy.

Munger builds his world with a slow-burn escalation, carefully layering hints of ancient power and systemic corruption beneath the visible conflict. The result is a narrative that prioritizes atmosphere and gradual revelation over immediate spectacle, allowing tension to accumulate organically.

Storm Grazer Rising positions itself as the beginning of an expansive saga, particularly suited to readers who enjoy epic fantasy built on political unrest, buried magic systems, and dual perspective storytelling that converges toward a larger mythic reckoning.

Storm Grazer Rising is a really engaging epic fantasy that stayed with me long after I finished it.

What stood out most were the characters. Each one felt distinct, and it was easy to get invested in their journeys. The world-building is detailed without being overwhelming, and the story unfolds at a steady pace that feels thoughtful rather than rushed.

The plot twists were especially strong — surprising, but they made sense. A few moments genuinely caught me off guard, and there were scenes with real emotional weight. Some parts even brought me to tears, not because they were overly dramatic, but because they felt honest and earned.

This is the kind of book that lingers with you after you turn the last page. If you enjoy epic fantasy with strong characters, meaningful choices, and quieter emotional moments mixed in, this is definitely worth a read.

I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next.

Although I don’t typically reach for fantasy books, I read Storm Grazer Rising in just two days and found myself completely swept up in its world. The author, Eric Munger, has a remarkable gift for conveying emotion - not by telling you what to feel, but by crafting moments so vivid and honest that you can’t help but feel them yourself.

Its magic and adventure carry a deeper study of endurance, hope, and human connection, leaving the story lingering for both its imagination and its heart. I was captivated by the stunning new cover art, and the heartfelt acknowledgments added a tender layer of warmth that made the experience even richer.

This book blends emotion, imagination, and meaning in a way that feels both authentic and profound. Whether you’re a longtime fantasy lover or someone simply looking for a compelling, beautifully told story, Storm Grazer Rising has something special to offer. It’s a journey worth taking.

What a wonderful addition to my library. Eric's foray into the genre is a phenomenal entry in the world of fantasy fiction.

The author not only succeeds in telling an engaging story, he manages to create a world that feels lived-in, with different races, factions, and an extensive history. His attention to world building really shows his dedication to the genre.

If you're a fan of Lackey/Mallory (The Obsidian Trilogy), you'll definitely enjoy Storm Grazer Rising, as the depth and pacing are similar. I particularly enjoyed the individual storylines for each character and how they all converge into an overarching epic tale.

The characters are nuanced and relatable, the pacing will make you want to keep reading. And the build up revealing the main antagonist is the perfect ending to the first novel in The Lavonshia Chronicles.

I am eagerly anticipating the next entry and cannot wait to see how this story progresses.

Theres so much to enjoy about this book and I am already anticipating the next installment.

My favorite part was the characters in this book. From the beginning the author captured my need to want to know who everyone was and what role they were going to play in each other’s lives. I felt emotions towards everyone, love, anger and (spoiler) pain.

The world building is fantastic, the author is very descriptive and I could easily picture in my mind all that he wants you to see. The elements of magic used in this book is new to me and I really enjoyed it and its originality.

I also appreciate the author not bringing too much violence into a book that very easily could. I also appreciate the use of no foul language or sexual content, because neither is necessary.

A thrilling read that will draw you in! This book is a page turner with all the elements of a great adventure/fantasy read. You'll laugh and cry, then wish the sequel was already out by the time you get to the end!

As a mom, I'd add that this book has no concerning content for youngsters. Truthfully, Storm Grazer Rising encourages good character, demonstrates consequences of choices, and promotes the positive traits you want to see your child admire. There is an underlying theme of sacrifical love which is beautifully shown by several characters. It would make for a great read along / dinner table discussion book.

The thing I enjoyed most was the actual writing in this book. The author's descriptions really paint pictures in your mind. I felt like I could "see" the land and understand the characters. It sucked me into the book. The plot kept me guessing and always wanting to know what would happen next. I especially liked how each chapter title was the last line of the chapter. It was intriguing to see how the story would get from where you were at to that end line. Honestly, that made it hard to put down sometimes because I wanted to see what happened after that sneak peek. Definitely a fun fantasy read.

I really loved the overall story of Storm Grazer Rising! As an avid fantasy reader, I found the world-building to be the standout feature—it is incredibly well thought out and so descriptive that I could easily visualize every scene.

While I’m not a writer myself, I’ve read enough in this genre to feel that there is even more potential here. I would have loved to see a bit more emotional depth and development for the main characters to really ground the story. However, the foundation is fantastic, and I’m very excited to see where the author takes us next. A great read that I definitely recommend!

Chaos

My best description. The writing was fine. At first I thought I don’t think I’m going to be able to get into the book and then I was doing fine with it. Characters were taking shape. I was following the storyline. And then about the half way point it gets chaotic and jumbled….like completely ADHD…too many characters and plot lines popping up going back and forth…just chaotic. I had a lot of potential to turn into something great but it just felt like pure chaos.

I cannot add anything new that the other reviews haven't mentioned! The world Eric built is wonderful with characters you can root for. It is so hard to find fantasy without filth but this is 100% a book I would let my teen nephews read! I couldn't put it down and I am so excited to buy a physical copy for my shelves and for book #2!!

It was very well written and the reader can visualize the fantasy world and it's character's. It's of course a book of good vs evil but has biblical themes within its character development. Heroes are not always the strongest person but kindness and good intentions wins the day. I can't wait to see how the four come together in the next book!
