This is the 7th book in a series set in Colorado. This storyline has Detective Melody Rust and her K-9 Partner teaming up with FBI Agent Austin Drake. It starts when Austin is at a county fair with his dad and his young son when there is an explosion. Was it on purpose and if so, was he the target?

That is how these two end up working together and it just may be related to another case where pregnant woman are being kidnapped, the murdered after the birth of the children. The two of them pretend to be a married couple looking to adopt a child with the hopes of rescuing one pregnant mother who has just been kidnapped.

The story is a quick and easy read/listen. While the narrator - Maggie Hickman - was not my particular favorite, she still delivered an enjoyable story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio | Love Inspired Suspense for the opportunity to listen to and review this ALC. This book will be out for publication on September 29, 2026.

A blockbuster, action-packed opening scene sets the tone for this exhilarating read. I enjoyed the fall setting too – the story takes place in October – and it’s always fun to have your fictional friends enjoying the same season you are!

Austin and Melody come together at the crucial time in an exhaustive investigation into a villainous baby selling ring. Only something doesn’t jive at their first explosive meeting and they soon begin to suspect that another criminal has them on his radar which complicates things no end.

The suspense unique to this 7th Colorado K-9 Unit book is full of twists and nail-biting scenarios as well as expertly woven into the series suspense plot which is rapidly coming to a grand finale in book 8 — eep, I can’t wait! As with all the books in this series, ‘Uncovering Explosive Secrets’ can be read as a standalone. Black does an excellent job of bringing new readers up to speed with the nearly year long investigation details without burdening Austin and Melody’s story in any way.

Loved the way their romance developed – hesitant, wary, both with reasons to resist their attraction. I especially appreciated Austin’s personal struggles. The author shines a light on the immense emotional toll fighting crime can take on dedicated law enforcement personnel.

I listened to the audio edition of this book and enjoyed Angie Hickman’s narration. She did a great job balancing the emotion and tension in the story. It’s amazing how much a narrator’s performance plays into creating an atmosphere that matches the author’s storytelling style.

My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.

We are back in Colorado where the authorities are still trying to find out who is responsible for the disappearance of pregnant young women who are later found dead and their babies missing.
But now there seems to be more going on, or is it?
While attending a fair with his father and young son, single dad , FBI Agent Austin Drake, finds himself ambushed right before a bomb explodes. Was it an accident, or is it connected to an old case?
Meanwhile, K-9 Detective Melody Rust arrives to help and these two end up teaming up in what appears to be related to the kidnapping of pregnant mothers and Austin’s old case.
As they work together, feelings develop. But each one has made a vow to themselves. One doesn’t want her value and profession to be minimized, while the other is questioning his future in a profession that puts this single dad in danger.
This is a faith filled , action packed, suspense Christian romance that will keep the listeners on the edge of their seats. The characters are well developed and likable.
The narrator, Maggie Hickman, managed to keep the characters real and there is never a doubt as to who was speaking.
This was definitely another winner in this engaging series.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook by Netgalley, Harlequin Audio and HarperCollins.

An action-packed suspense, full of high stakes, strong faith, and the start of something new.

Detective Melody Rust is partnered with FBI agent Austin Drake to pose as a couple willing to broker a deal for a baby on the dark web, into order to catch human traffickers. But when a bomb goes off at a Fall Fest, with a targeted victim, they know they are in a race against time to find out who is behind the attack and save a missing girl and her baby.

A fast-paced read, with a lot going on, and great characters that you can cheer for throughout. Melody and Austin make a great team, complimenting each other's strengths, and playing their parts well. The plot is gripping and engaging, I liked that we got some major progress towards the overarching story that connects the series.

Overall, a highly entertaining read, with high action, suspense, but breathing room for humor to cut the tension. Great chemistry, likable characters and faith. Highly recommend!

Uncovering Explosive Secrets by Maggie K. Black is book #7 in the Colorado K-9 Unit series. Maggie K. Black has a great way of weaving together a read that has you hanging on every word and draws the reader in with imagery that allows the reader to feel as if you are watching the story unfold.

In this read, FBI Agent Austin Drake is ambushed at a fall fair moments before a bomb detonates and this is a personal attack on him or is it with a case he's working? Detective Melody Rust and her K-9 partner are on the scene to help, however could a killer be targeting her too? Austin and Melody must work together to stop a killer, and find a missing pregnant teen before the killer takes them out for good.

Uncovering Explosive Secrets by Maggie Black is book 7 in the Colorado K-9 series. Narration done by Angie Hickman …wasn’t a fan. Sometimes while switching between characters, she would still be using a robotic voice. Overall, I liked the plot and have been enjoying this series. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Harlequin Audio for this eArc. This is my honest review. Releases Sept 29,2026
