Neymar da Silva Santos Junior is one of the most iconic players in football, a superstar for Barcelona FC and the greatest name in modern-day Brazilian sport. His journey to the peak of world football has been from a childhood spent on the verge of poverty he was plucked from obscurity as an 11 year old by Santos FC, the club where Pele made his name, and soon after making his first-team debut as a 17 year old he rocketed to fame to become one of the brightest stars in Brazil. But Neymar Jr would not have become the player that he has without his father, Neymar Sr, who has been a steady and influential guide in his life and career. And only with an understanding of his father's past, and of the challenges that the Neymar family have faced and overcome, is it possible to truly understand the making of this extraordinary footballer. Neymar Jr's talent has always been astonishing. But it could have been lost had it not been carefully nurtured, developed and managed. This beautiful and touching story reveals the making of one of the greatest and most iconic players on the planet as told by father and son, with exclusive insights into Neymar Jr's life and career, his achievements and his aspirations.
In this autobiography, Neymar Jr and his father discuss the career of the brilliant footballer. This book swaps who is speaking after every chapter and alternates between the two Neymars. This can get confusing especially when picking up the book when in the middle of a chapter. This book doesn't go into much detail and was written too early in my opinion as when the book was written he had just moved to Barcelona and should have written it after he had finished his career since it can feel like he's got nothing else he wants to say as I would say it his father that speaks the majority of the time. This book is a very quick read as it is only 150 pages long and only took me two days to complete.
Liked the alternating chapters spoken by Neymar Sr and Neymar Jr, although it was sometimes easy to forget the switch had happened. I also liked the bond Neymar has with his father and the family values, which are very strong.
However saying that, the story didn’t go into any subject with much detail. Also I found the book was trying to tell the reader how wonderful he is? Was a little confusing in some chapters as was hard to work out if it was Neymar or his father writing.
I enjoyed reading this book yet I feel like we never really got to know who Neymar jr truly is. If you want to read this because you’re either a Neymar Junior fan or you just like to read biographies (hardly doubt that) then duh 🙄 you should!!!!☺️ Jjjust be prepared that it’s not really about him rather it’s more about his career and love for football from a young age.
not my usual pick but i thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! as a soccer fan (only during the World Cup) it was interesting to read about one of the worlds best soccer players and his upbringing through the pov of his dad and him. i loved the back and forth of their povs. im a neymar jr fan as of today! go #10/11! ⚽️🙀😌
It's not that explosive, and there's not much to reveal either. His is still a career in the making, whether he will attain the cult status enjoyed by the like of his compatriot Pele is yet to be seen. However, when he plays for country, he carries the expectation of over 200 million Brazilians on his slender shoulder. And when he plays for club Barcelona, the weight is not lighter either. Country or club, much is expected of him.
Dubbed the official autobiography, Neymar: My story - Conversations With My Father by Neymar da Silva Santos Junior and Neymar da Silva Santos Senior with Ivan Moré which was released recently to coincide with the World Cup 2014 is the English translation of the book which was published in Brazil in 2013. It is not a lengthy autobiography. Just 150 pages long, made all the more shorter by the book's division into thirty short chapters, alternating between Neymar Jr and Sr in a conversational tone. Very easy to read!
Two specifics that can be easily pointed out, and attributed to both Neymar Jr and Neymar Sr apiece might as well be the high-point of the autobiography. Neymar Sr revealed that he and his son travelled to Spain in 2006 for a probable move to Real Madrid. Neymar Jr became very homesick. "I just felt that the moment wasn't right....Our hearts decided it and I didn't even care how much money we were turning down." Neymar Jr also revealed that he turned down a move to Chelsea in 2010, despite a "huge transfer bid" from the then Premier League champions and says it was the right decision.
Short and engaging, the book offers insight not only into the life of Neymar Jr but also Neymar Sr, and the legion of fans will truly appreciate this timely autobiography.
