After receiving a summons to appear at court because the Regent had decided David needed an English wife to further seal the bonds between the two kingdoms David decided that he would choose his own wife and no one was going to tell him who he had to marry. He and Tristan went to Berwick to discuss grain shipments with a minor Border lord when he saw two men tugging on the arms of an English lass trying to pull her away from the other and she ended up being struck causing her mouth to bleed. Elinor was trying to get them to let go of her. Her father was one and he was trying to drag her inside to auction her off and the other, Sir Edmund Langley, claimed he was her betrothed but her father said the price he offered for her was not enough so he was auctioning her off to get a higher price. In the process Elinor was hit in the face splitting her lip and that saw David seeing red! When they went inside he and Tristan followed as the auction was about to start. When they went inside bidding started and when it looked like Langley was going to outbid the others David stepped in and outbid him. Now he may have started a war on both sides, he went against the Regent and made an enemy of Langley and he now had a bride that probably hated him too! This is an excellent book and another instalment in the Highland Sinners Series and one you won’t want to miss!! Cherie
This book is amazing! David finds himself summoned to be wed to an English bride chosen by the Regent to build an alliance of peace. Tired of doing everything expected of him by others, he’s determined that his wife will be chosen by him. Elinor’s father is heavily in debt and turns to an auction to solve his problems. Sir Edmund Langley offered for her hand but her father refused. It is at the auction where she will meet David and it will change everything. An altercation before the auction involving Langley and Elinor’s father will put David in a position where he will decide that saving Elinor will solve both their problems. It’s a bit of an adventure when he leaves the auction with Elinor in tow and an angry Langley left behind. I love how their relationship begins with her negotiating and bargaining to get her way. But time will soften the rough edges of their beginning and lead to genuine feelings developing between the two. But Langley refuses to give up and there will be danger brought to David’s home. In the end, Langley will be defeated by David and Elinor working together and it will allow them to move forward to a beautiful future together.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
While the characters were carefully created and engaging, the storyline was lacking in development. The set up of the first chapter in which Langley was developing his assault strategy was followed by two chapters, one being romantic, leading the reader to anticipate an assault during a romantic scene, which was most unsettling. Poor planning and execution of the story. Additionally, some modern words like micromanage for example were incorporated that that would not have been used during that period. The final attack scene was well done however.
What an exciting story. It has an evil man trying to take a woman that he thinks he loves but really wants to possess. Whereas David goes against the crown, but gets the love of his life that he never expected. It's a wonderful story about how they grow to love each other and protect each other. You have to laugh at the painting scene. She turns into a strong woman and the final scenes are proof. You don't want to miss this story.
A beautiful and exciting adventure! The characters were very brave and awesome. The battle was incredibly exciting. The plot was incredibly deceptive. Thanks for sharing your story.
Loved this story. Elinor had to adjust to being a wife to a laird who had a last to vet over. David had to decide that his past fears had no place for his future. A must read.
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ. DAVID BUYS ELINOR AT AN AUCTION TO OUTWIT THE REGENT OF THE KING. ANOTHER MAN WANTED ELINOR AND CAUSES TROUBLE LATER ON. THE REGENT HAS HIS EYE ON THEM TOO. THERE IS A BATTLE AND SPIES AND A LOT OF ACTION.
