➡️ Very, very, very slow start.
Waaay too much time was spent setting up character dynamics.
The book's gripping storyline and twists did not materialize until around the 70% mark.

Adele Parks.
As a loyal Adele Parks fan, I trusted this talented author to deliver, and she did.
The final third of the book escalated into a compelling, high-stakes climax with gasp-worthy twists that pulled everything together brilliantly.
➡️ I listened to the audiobook expertly narrated by Kristin Atherton.
As always, Atherton delivered an Oscar-worthy performance that kept me engaged even through the slowest chapters.

I have read and enjoyed a few of Adele Parks books before so I was excited to read her latest novel, Eyes On You, recently published on 27th August. Normally her books are gripping so that’s what I expected from this one.
We are introduced to Amy who works at a restaurant. 17 years ago she witnessed her dad murder his lover and her testimony put him in prison. She meets the handsome and wealthy Oliver in the restaurant and they start seeing each other. Something doesn’t seem quite right about the relationship.
I wasn’t keen on any of the characters and Amy in particular was insufferable. The plot was so very slow and really dragged. The ending was silly and most of the ‘twists’ I’d seen coming a mile off and were predictable.
Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy this book. It was just too slow and predictable for me. I wouldn’t recommend it and the author definitely has better books.

Adele Parks can always be relied upon to deliver solidly entertaining reads and this latest offering is no exception. Although pitched as a psychological thriller, "Eyes on You" is predominantly a domestic drama. Not for the first time in an Adele Parks novel, the premise of the story does require the reader to buy into an unlikely, but just about plausible scenario. However, any sense of contrived storylines is usually forgivable when balanced against the overall entertainment value and that is certainly true here. The pace is a touch slower than is often the case with this author, but I never felt that it dragged unnecessarily. For the bulk of the novel I was convinced this was going to be a solid 4-star read, though, ultimately, I revised that to a strong 3-star rating. The reasoning behind that decision was that I felt the author just stretched matters a touch too far in the search for that killer plot development. If you are familiar with Adele Parks' work, you will be aware that she does like to deliver a blindsiding twist or two (or even three or four!). When it lands, the impact is genuinely impressive, but sometimes she can stretch the rubber band to the point where it snaps. Nonetheless, this is still an enjoyable book and I have little doubt that I will be returning for the next one too.

Adele Parks at her thrilling best with this one! We meet Amy who, as a teenager, having witnessed her father kill his mistress, gives evidence against him resulting in his imprisonment. Now- moving on as Hannah- she has the chance for love herself but will her past stand in their way or just bond them together more tightly? The first half of this read is a slow burn & I wondered where it would lead but the second half really picks up pace.I loved how many twists there were in this read, most I didn’t see coming at all.

Guys!! When I say you are not ready for Adele Parks’ latest book ‘Eyes On You’, I mean YOU. ARE. NOT. READY!! I finished it last night, and it has taken me this long to be able to put a cohesive review together. I am SHAKEN to my core in the best possible way and I think that this might just be her BEST YET!!
The moment I started this book I knew I was hooked, it’s Adele at her finest. I was reeled in from the very beginning, and she didn’t let go until she had delivered one final twist which had my jaw on the floor. When I say twist, I mean twists PLURAL… the twists and turns that ‘Eyes On You’ delivered left me with a severe case of whiplash, and I’m not lying when I say that I spent a lot of the time picking my jaw up off the floor.
‘Eyes On You’ marks Adele’s 26th release, and it’s been so incredible seeing her evolution. Her writing is just as bold as ever; it’s provocative, it’s powerful, it’s compelling, but most of all, it’s truthful. Every character Adele has ever written is always relatable, and it’s just as true with this book. I could not put this book down and, once again, if it wasn’t for adulting, I would have finished it in one or two sittings!
‘Eyes On You’ is exceptional, it’s amazing and such a thrilling ride that will have you in a choke hold from the beginning and will not let you go until the incredible end! When Amy was fifteen she saw her father murder his lover.
Wow. Eyes on You is utterly compelling and impossible to put down without a feeling that the reader is missing the action. I loved it.
The plot is magnificent, keeping the reader guessing throughout and threaded with clues that seem inconsequential but, on reflection, are brilliantly incorporated. Structured in a way to draw in the past to the present, it is impossible to guess all the outcomes, because Adele Parks is so skilled in manipulating both characters and readers. In fact, it’s quite hard to review Eyes on You without spoilers, but believe me when I say it is a must read book.
Amy’s first person narrative in Eyes on You is brilliant. I found myself completely fascinated and, actually, somewhat compromised. The writing means that the reader is placed inside Amy’s mind and that isn’t always a comfortable place to be. I had no real control over what I was feeling because Amy ensnared me completely so that I almost became her. The research that went into creating Amy must have been thoroughly assiduous and comprehensive because she is totally, totally convincing. She’s vulnerable and strong, needy and independent, strong minded and indecisive – in effect a complex, believable and terrifyingly real person.
I found Oli equally engaging. I didn’t trust him at all, but I’m not going to say whether I was right in that, as you’ll have to read Eyes on You for yourself to find out. Both Oli’s and Amy’s backgrounds are fascinating insights into the roles of nature and nurture. As their relationship develops, there is a lurking sense of unease and danger that adds to the attraction of the narrative.
In fact, whilst Eyes on You has everything a reader wants in plausible characters, a thrilling plot and some highly dramatic moments, it is also a superb exploration of theme. Adele Parks considers justice and revenge, family and parenthood, social strata and mental health so that, although Eyes on You can be read as a compelling and riveting drama, it has additional depth, interest and magnetism that make it a truly fabulous read.
In case it isn’t obvious, I thought Eyes on You was brilliant. It’s a stunning read and definitely one not to be missed.

Right from the beginning the tension and intrigue is evident, the differing chapters providing insight into the present day, merged in with flashbacks for several different characters. It sounds complicated but it is flawlessly executed so there is never any confusion as to the character outlook and the timeframe in question.
It is a slow-burn start, the reader building up their impression of main character Amy before the second half of the book picks up the pace as secrets are revealed and we approach the climatic conclusion. I specifically enjoyed that the book opened on the ending, so to speak, which meant you knew what happened to an extent, but the journey to find out more was definitely an interesting one!
The ending might not be exactly what you expect, the build up really does make you think a little bit more is coming but nonetheless the concluding chapters do tie up all the loose ends. A very clever book that I throughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend, especially if you enjoy Adele’s writing.

Amy and Oliver’s relationship is at the heart of this twisty psychological thriller, but the more you learn, the harder it becomes to work out who to trust and what is actually going on. Told across dual timelines, the story slowly peels back the layers, revealing secrets, clues and pieces of the puzzle chapter by chapter.
Dual timelines + unreliable narrators = absolutely my thing!
I loved the way information was drip fed throughout. Every chapter seemed to add another layer or give me something else to question, and I was constantly trying to work out where the story was heading. It’s definitely a slow burn, but once I was invested, I just wanted to keep going to find out what was really happening.
This is very much a character-driven thriller, and the characters aren't necessarily instantly likeable but they are fascinating and completely absorbing. I actually enjoyed not being able to immediately work them out.
The themes of family trauma, guilt and losing your parents run throughout the story and give it an added psychological darkness that I really enjoyed.
A layered, twisty and absorbing thriller that kept me guessing and questioning the characters right until the end. Definitely one for fans of slow-burn psychological thrillers, dual timelines and unreliable narrators.

This was a really good domestic thriller noir, with an intriguing plotline and a very sympathetic main character. Amy may have plenty issues, and plenty faults, but no-one can deny she has her challenges to face.

This was a really good domestic thriller noir, with an intriguing plotline and a very sympathetic main character. Amy may have plenty issues, and plenty faults, but no-one can deny she has her challenges to face.

Adele knows how to write supenseful thrillers with interesting and relatable characters - and for her 26th book there is a decidely darker edge.
Hannah was just fifteen when she witnessed her father murder his mistress - and she helped secure his conviction. In an attempt to escape the past she has a new identity and now calls herself Amy - after many years of avoiding long-term relstionships she meets Oli when he comes into the noodle bar where she works. Connected by the fact they both have troubled pasts they would prefer to leave behind, the two begin a relationship - but with two complex characters with so much unspoken history between them, there is an underlying unease in the relationship and it becomes clear not all is as it seems ....
The story moves between past and present, and we hear flashbacks from a number of perspectives other than Amy, but the narrative remains clear thanks to some skilful storytelling. This is definitely a story that builds but soon had me hooked as the sense of unease grows and motives come into question - and we head towards the surprising truth.

This is a book about families, secrets, love and loss at its core. Amy witnessed her father kill someone as a child and this has overshadowed her life. Until she meets a man Oli, who at best seems to have a life Amy knows nothing about. The book twists and turns as she makes some shocking discoveries. At the end we have the classic Adele Parks double twist.
I was reeled into this immediately with that need to know who, why and what happened. It’s a book that highlights and preconceptions we might have very starkly. It’s also about the way people treat another person who is from a different class without even realising it. There are so many layers in this book and so many subtle clues as to what’s going on.
It begs questions about believing or not, in something because it’s told by an official source, or it’s from someone deemed to be higher up the social tree. It’s a definite five star read and shows she’s still at the top of the game and a must read author for me as well as many others. I also listened to the audio version with an excellent reading by Kristin Atherton. One of the few female narrators who could read any story and I’d listen. Bravo Adele Parks!

I had pre-ordered Eyes on You, and it was definitely worth the wait before it landed on my Kindle. I’ve always enjoyed Adele Parks’ books, but this one is her absolute best!
Eyes on You is a deep, dark, psychological thriller. Since she was fifteen Amy has had to live with the horror of being the daughter of a murderer. This is the story of how she navigates her way through the murky waters of the life she feels she has been thrown into.
This book is a page turner extraordinaire, shifting in time between seventeen years ago to a week ago, to yesterday to today, which, rather than making the story seem disjointed, keeps building the suspense because it is following a circle back to the opening chapters.
It is impossible to comment further on the story without ruining the absolutely brilliant effect of becoming absorbed into Amy’s relentless attempts to right the wrongs of the past. I wish I could have taken longer to read it but that would have been like trying to find the brake on a roller coaster!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eyes on You by Adele Parks
I listened to this book on BookBeat over three days while I was working, and I absolutely loved it! It completely gripped me, and I found myself wanting to keep listening to find out what was going to happen next. There were so many twists and turns, and I really enjoyed how everything unfolded. I also really liked the ending.
Spoiler: The one thing I did find slightly unbelievable was that the father didn’t fight harder to prove his innocence. That frustrated me a little, although I suppose when you’re going up against a very wealthy and powerful family with access to the best lawyers, it does make more sense.
This was my first book by Adele Parks, and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of her books.
I also have to mention the narration by Kristin ,It was outstanding! I think she may be my favourite audiobook narrator so far. I’ve already saved several other books she’s narrated, so I’m really excited to listen to more.

I liked this, but I love Adele Parks so much that I think this book suffered a little because of the super high expectations I had for it. I was hooked in the beginning and really enjoyed following Amy and Oliver's budding romance. There was a great feeling of tension in the writing and I looked forward to working out how everything fit together.
I did enjoy the journey that the book took me on, but I felt like I was constantly waiting for a big twist or reveal that never came. The story was interesting, but it wasn't surprising, and the tension at the beginning felt like it should be leading somewhere a bit more exciting.

I was immediately drawn in by the intriguing premise of Eyes on You and found myself hooked quite quickly. Unfortunately, I felt the story began to lose momentum as it moved throughout the book.
There weren't any particularly surprising twists for me, as I could see where the story was heading, and I also found some of the flashback chapters a little unnecessary and underwhelming. I felt sorry for Amy at times, but she also frustrated me enormously – there were several moments when I wanted to give her a good shake! Oli didn't quite work for me either. His character seemed to change so dramatically towards the end that I struggled to find him believable.

I was a bit perplexed after finishing this. Somehow the speedy happy ending didn't align with the taut, tense development of a dysfunctional relationship between two people whose lives had been changed forever by a murder when they were teenagers. Only Amy knew the truth, Oli was not aware of her true background.
After sleeping on it and still mulling it over, the sign of a good book, I must applaud Adele Patks for creating Oli's monstrous father. There's a toe curling exchange between him and Amy after her engagement to Oli is announced. Everything unravel after that and it briefly becomes a bit comedic with other people trying to take the blame. The legal process engages with a speed only Andy Burnham could have instigated.
In summary, a thriller that keeps you glued to the pages, but somewhat bonkers and implausible. 3.5

This was quite a slow build up for the first half of the book. The author was setting the scene over a number of time periods but it just felt a bit boring and pedestrian .
Then in the second half the storyline sped up a bit as the stories unraveled.
For me there was something missing that takes a book from good to great. Pace, intensity and depth were an issue for me. The storyline just felt flat a lot of the time.
The characters were good but not remarkable. All flawed and weak but some arrogant who felt they were better than others because of their positions.
I persisted with the book and without any spoilers, I will only say that I am pleased I did. The very last part of the book demonstrated why I like this author.
Overall 3 stars. Just a bit disappointed as I had expected more.

An extremely sad story that highlights the impact of crime within families and how the repercussions can continue for many years. Tom Smith was convicted of murdering his wealthy mistress while working as her gardener. His wife and two children had to live with the constant intrusion into their lives from the media. Neighbours shunned them or abused them. Eventually the son moved away and the daughter changed her name to escape the attention. As the story develops the outcome seems to be inevitable as the horrifying truth of the past emerges between the daughter Amy and her boyfriend Oli but as this gradual relationship progresses and reaches a shocking climax, a final massive twist is revealed.

I’m usually a fan of Adele Parks, so I was disappointed that Eyes on You just didn’t work for me.
I found the start incredibly slow and really struggled to stay engaged with the story. I got to the point where I was skipping pages, which is always a pretty good indication that a book isn’t holding my attention. I know quite a few reviews have said that the second half is much better and that the pace picks up, but by the time I reached halfway I’d already decided that I just wasn’t invested enough to carry on.
I’m sure this will work much better for some readers, and I did wonder if I was giving up too soon, but sometimes you just have to accept that a book isn’t for you. Sadly, this wasn’t one of my Adele Parks favourites.

Hannah has been left damaged after witnessing her Dad murder his mistress when she was a teenager. Having to give evidence in court was traumatic and she has struggled with her personal life and relationships since.
Due to the attention she changes her name to Amy and moves to London where she meets Oli.
Their relationship is complex and it’s quite frustrating to read about at times.
We have chapters from the past and then the present day where it’s clear something has happened…
