Nina Osborne thought she had a marriage built on trust, a grown daughter, and a quiet, comfortable life. Until a single child’s drawing found in her husband’s car shattered the illusion she’d been living in for years.
Her husband has an illegitimate son, and he’s been quietly draining their family accounts as he prepares to divorce her. Now Nina has to protect everything that rightfully belongs to her.
But how do you fight a man who knows every one of your fears?
Jasper Garth is a cardiothoracic surgeon with a flawless reputation. Cold. Immaculate. Untouchable.
He is the man Nina has hated, feared, and avoided for years. The one who once inflicted unbearable pain on her. Jasper has spent years burying his guilt and locking away the darkest secret of his life. One careless word could destroy everything he’s built.
He is the last person who should come near her, and the last one she should ever trust. But when Nina’s carefully constructed world collapses, Jasper becomes the only one who can help her.

Just what every woman dreams. Find the man that raped you when you were a virgin in college, learn he’s adopted the child that was the product of that rape, and then reconcile. 🤮
Ok, this is not really my idea of romance, but this gets four stars because the writing is really good. The plot is not, in my opinion, outstanding.
SPOILER In fact, having the rapist be the love interest was appalling. Again, my opinion. And having the husband playing a really, really long game was awful. The wannabe who knew what he was doing and tried to suck up to the wife, playing like she was a friend, was equally awful.
Still, this was well written and absolutely above average… but, I couldn’t like it.
victim of rape, is forced to marry someone else while pregnant, her baby is given to foster care. years later the FMC is going through a divorce, her husband is stealing from her company and has a son with his mistress.
she reunites with the rapist after 22 years, who has in the meantime found their baby and he makes her LIE to her daughter about what happened.!!!!!! and the daughter now gets married to her dad's friend who has seen her grow up... how this storyline got 5stars review is a wonder.
the only saving grace is thankfully that there is justice for the cheating husband

I am amazed that the author could pull off this story line and make it work but she did! In a nut shell, the FMC's husband was a controling narcissistic gold digger, cheater and had a second family and he was dangerous. The OW actually befriended the h but ultimately lost everything....she was not a nice person. The physician H, I felt, worked hard to earn forgiveness and to redeem himself. Why? During an alcoholic, rage filled pity party at the college, he raped the h and she became pregnant.
Fast forward 20 years, the marriage between the h and her abuser was ending dangerously and he was convincing everyone that the h was mentally ill. No one believed her and his lies almost destroyed her life. He wanted control of all of her wealth. The physician became her ally and ultimately helped her heal, divorce, and regain her confidence. It took a long time for them to heal: he was desperate for forgiveness and she had to heal to get over her hate. It took a skilled author to pull this plot off, but she did.
I felt sorry for the h's 2 daughters. The first was given up and ultimately adopted by the H. When the truths became clear, she had to really work to establish a relationship with a mother she had never known. The second daughter and the h had had a close relationship (the h thought) but it came out that she thought her mother was crazy and an embarrassment. It did seem like she finally acknowledged the truth about her father and was sent away by the h for safety. Here she dropped out of the story.
The H and h worked to heal, her to forgive the past, him to forgive himself and their daughter to worked to accept them as a family. It occurred to me that perhaps the evilness of the husband and his attempts to control, destroy, erase the h helped her understand that yes, what the H had done to her was atrocious (not sure the right word), he was showing her more respect and support and hope for forgiveness than her husband or their daughter.
Here I thought...oh this is an interesting setup. The story hooked me. A bit long in thought life but at least the thought life wasn't too repetitive. However, the author took a complex subject and .... probably some spoilers.... didn't give us how they pushed through the past in order to be together. I kept waiting for the author to have that moment where he confesses his state of mind 22 years ago and how she processes that. And how she doesn't get to look like a horrible woman who just gave up her child. I hated that the author didn't give Nina that moment of...gotcha ....with her ex. And hated that she had to toss one daughter out of the storyline inorder to build a relationship with the other. I did like how Lynn's story took shape and ended, although they could have had their own story. I think the author took the easy way out and gave us a surface story that might have been too complicated for her to expeess the complete journey into words. Would almost like to see a rewrite on this that gives us more. Right now they just seem like two people who like each other but can't 100% commit because of the past. We don't really get an ending with these two. Did they get past the past, talk about it, really heal from it. Did they get married, have a baby etc etc. It had some good spots but really took sharp turns away when you think things are getting good. Maybe this subject topic was too much to write a love story about.
I have real mixed feelings about this story. First, I loved Nina, a woman who thought she had the perfect life until she found out her husband Frank was an a$$ and had a secret second family. He’s also trying to steal all she owns. She needs help and Jasper shows up-the man who assaulted her at age 17.
So, spoiler alert:
Jasper raped her and now he’s her hero. No, just no!
What a story. The narrative will totally blow you away. I really wasn’t expecting the story to go in that direction. It keeps you turning page after page. You despair for Nina. It’s heartbreaking and heart healing. Brilliant story great author.
MORE PLEASE one of my now favourite authors. All her books are great.
This was such a good book!!! I felt so bad for Nina .. she didn’t deserve what her husband put her thru ( won’t go into details) .. and I felt bad for her for trusting her piece of Dung husband blindly!! The only redeeming part of this was her daughter and jasper ( her youngest daughter I didn’t have any respect for!!)
I was so enthralled in this book, it was 2am before I finally got some sleep. An amazing story with twists I never would have guessed would happen. Truly surprising events that are life altering. Great writing!!
Some parts of this book are icky. It's not something I enjoyed. I did like the suspense, the betrayal, the comeuppance (not for the H- that's the icky part I didn't enjoy.)
