3.5 Stars 3/5 Hotness
Blood of the Demon had been on my TBR list for a while when my awesome blog team leader, Jodie, asked me if I'd like to review it. Naturally I jumped at the chance to read it. Boy, am I happy that I got to read this too. It was a good start to what appears is going to be a fantastic series.
Keegan was a man on a mission. He was going to save the world from being destroyed. He and his brothers had taken the job that the Elden Council, the interdimensional ruling body, had given them. They were to find the key to the Apocalypse - who just happened to be a woman. If necessary, they were to kill her in order to keep the big bad, Mammon - an insane ex-council member who just happens to be their father - from starting Armageddon. The only problem was, Keegan was instantly attracted to the woman and certain parts of his anatomy didn't really care that he may have to end her life.
Brynn Meyer had no idea she had descended from an Egyptian priest and his succubus love. Seriously. Who can trace their ancestry back three thousand years? She did however possess a legacy from from her great however-many-times-over grandparents. She could "read" the past of any object she touched. She could also drain a person of all their energy, dropping them to the ground like a stone.
When Keegan kidnapped Bryn "for her own good" she had a hard time believing his story about him being some kind of special government agent assigned to protect her. There was definitely something more to him than met the eye. She couldn't use her powers against him. Little did she know that was truly a demon. All that she was aware of was was his absolutely phenomenal good looks and her uncharacteristically sever attraction to him.
I liked this book a lot. Like I said earlier, I have a feeling that this series is going to be sensational. BotD is a great start to the Demons of Infernum series. The storyline was engaging and the first 1/3 of the book fly by for me. I was really into it. Something else that really pleased me about BotD was the fact that the demons weren't your standard hell demons. These guys have no connection to hell or Satan. The demons in this series are actually different races of beings from other dimensions. Another good thing about this book was the devotion that Keegan showed to his brothers and in the end, Brynn. It was something that touched my heart.
There is something that I must impress upon you. Rosalie Lario can sure write a bag guy. It was so easy to hate Mammon. He's not only a complete a-hole but a child abuser as well. How can a man treat his sons the way he treated his own? The way that the boys were conceived was a travesty! How could the Council let him get away with it? One thing is for certain, Lario writes bad guys that we love to hate!
There was a few issues with this book IMO. The worst being the way that the pace kinda stalled out in the middle. I'm not sure what it was, things were just flying along and then suddenly it was as if we came up against so major turbulence. I knocked BotD off course for a while. Happily though, the pace picked up about 2/3 of the way through, just as the big confrontation with Mammon began. Once we got back on track the story took off again, taking us on a ride full of action and leading us to a truly fantastic HEA with a wonderful set up for the next book in the series, Mark of the Sylph.
Blood of the Demon was an enjoyable read and I can't wait to see what Rosalie Lario has in store for us next with Taeg's story!
Favorite mini passage...
“Let me guess," Brynn said from across the room. "Another brother, right?"
Keegan glanced at Brynn, who was staring at Ronin with an expression of disbelief. He switched back to English. "This is our younger brother, Ronin."
"Of course he is." Brynn let out an incredulous chuckle. "Did they specifically breed you guys in a lab or something?"
He exchanged a confused look with Ronin. What did that mean?
Bryn must have caught the look, because she explained, "Since you're all so hot, I mean.”
