You think the gif above shows you God? Oh you are so wrong, in this book, God appear to be a primary school boy named 'Suzuki', and He had decided to attempt school just in order to take a break from the eternal boredom of being an all-knowing, all-powerful divine being.
What is what in the story: in a suburban small town, there is a serial cat killer on the loose and the children are anxious to catch the offender before their own cats or their classmates' cats fall victim to the murder spree. Our protagonist is a primary school student who goes along with his classmates' self proclaimed 'investigation', but at the same time, the protagonist also encounters a fellow classmate, who claims himself as no other than.........the Almighty God Himself? Plus, after a mysterious killer claims his/her first human victim, God promises the protagonist He will rain down Divine Punishment on the deviant(s)?
Oh yeah, this God isn't going to shy away from rain down His Divine Punishment at mortals (although He claim He usually rarely do that...)
In the Japanese crime and mystery genre, there is nothing new about teenagers or school kids starring as Youth Detectives (Thinks: Edogawa Conan from the Case Closed series), but once the concept of God is added into the equation, Yutaka Maya delivered quite beautifully!
I also like how the school boy protagonist interacts with the God/Kami-sama (who also appears to be a school boy), the scenes between these two look strangely...innocent but insightful as well!
Some reviewers claimed they had had the shock of their lives when they turned the last page of this book, but I honestly wasn't as surprised as they were when I finished this book. This book can only earn a Level 60 to Level 70 on the Mind Fuck Scale, and I had seen what Mr. Maya is capable of when mind-fucking is concerned.
Though when I was just one page away from the final explanation of the murder mystery, I paused and thought to myself: "Wait, can THAT PERSON () have a part in the death of this certain child?" yet surprisingly I was wrong , though I don't really think the explanation makes so much sense ().["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This novel is one of the series called "Kodansya Mystery Land". A concept of this series - For you who were a child once, and boys and girls - Therefore, all novels of this series are written to a primary schoolchild is readable by Japanese famous authors. But, those most are not suitable contents for them. Especially, this novel has such an opinion "If a child reads this, the child may suffer from a trauma..." Shocking development, badness of the aftertaste, weirdness of the illustration (But, Masumi Hara, the illustrator does best work for the story.) Still, this gets a high evaluation to the readers of adult. Actually, by the vote of a certain guide book of the mystery novels, it was ranked the fifth in 2006. Seemingly, this story is whodunit of the looking for murder. But, Got appears in here; he knows all... I cannot forget when I had read it. I was shocked so as to be at a loss for words...
