I don’t believe in forever. I believe in odds and always having an out—until my stepsister shows up on my doorstep with an eviction notice and nowhere else to go.
Opinionated and a self-confessed romantic, it makes sense that Pippa works for the biggest women’s magazine in the country.
What doesn’t make sense is why the hell she’d accept an assignment for a “12 Dates of Christmas” feature to find her Mr. Right…while living in my apartment.
It shouldn’t be any of my business who she kisses for content, but these guys? Really?
It’s not long before our banter starts to feel more like foreplay, and one reckless taste of her proves exactly how combustible we are.
But I’m not the sort of guy who can give her forever…so I’ll be her dirty secret instead.
Problem is I’ve never been good at sharing, and since she’s ruined me for anyone else, the least I can do is return the favor.
Dirty Savage Player is an enemies-to-lovers billionaire playboy romance featuring high heat, elite banter, and a holiday dating experiment gone horribly wrong. It is the second book in the House of Cards series, but can be read as a complete standalone.
Lena Hunt is a Canadian author born and raised north of Toronto, which is the setting for her flagship series, House of Cards. She writes angsty contemporary romances with complex characters who bring the spice and banter in spades.
When she isn’t busy writing, she can be found listening to music at an unreasonable volume, wishing she was somewhere warmer, or spending quality time with her chaotic family.
So, so, so happy that I received a copy of this book to review!
I loved this book SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! It's as if Lena Hunt looked right into my heart and soul!
Pippa is a content creator for a popular Toronto publication, and she would do anything to keep the job she loves so much. So, when she gets evicted because of her cat, Waffle, her only logical choice to keep everything she holds dear is to move in with her stepbrother, Ryan. He's been her nemesis since she met him at the age of 14 - at least that's what she tells herself.
The tension is clear as soon as she shows up at his lush apartment that he pays for by professional gambling. As she begins her next big article "The 12 Dates of Christmas", the tension begins to escalate between her and Ryan. Is Ryan jealous or just being overprotective? And then.... one kiss changes everything.
When her boss wants her to do another article on exploring taboo fantasies, Ryan offers to help teach her about "doms" and "subs". And HOLY CRUD! Things get exciting after that!!
I absolutely loved Pippa and Ryan's love story. I could read this over and over and never get tired of it. Bravo Lena Hunt! I am your faithful fan for life!
Ryan - professional poker player Pippa - relationship column writer for a magazine …and they’re step-siblings - My warning for you if that’s an ick 🤣
Pippa gets kicked out of her apartment and needs somewhere to live ASAP - somewhere that will accept Waffle, her cat (the real star of the story 🤭) - and who better to stay with than her step-brother whom she hates while she tries to find a new place
While working on a holiday special for the magazine, Pippa has to go on 12 dates (12 different guys) and Ryan starts to feel… protective? Jealous?
We all know how forced proximity can cause lines to start blurring especially when your sexy step-brother insists on walking around shirtless ALL THE TIME 😏
—— This is book 2 in the House of Cards series and once again, I was not disappointed I think this is my favourite so far 👀
The “I hate your guts” banter between these two was hilarious -
Pippa was kicked out of her apartment due to her new cat Waffles. With no other place to go she ends up at her “evil” stepbrother’s. Ryan and her aren’t exactly friends but mom suggested it and unfortunately he’s her best option with her job and the cat. And then Pippa has the idea of the 12 Dates of Christmas article. Ryan helps her with her dating profile but then suddenly she’s all he can think about. He becomes jealous. This was such a good read that I couldn’t put it down! Great story with some great spice! This is part of a series but is a standalone. I have bought book one but haven’t read it yet.
This book features step siblings Ryan and Pippa and their journey through life and falling in love. Ryan fell first and harder when they were 14 and I am here for it. This taboo book had me in a choke hold and once again, like the first book, I could not put this down. I was here for the banter, the fuck it moments. The spice. All of it.
This series has a special place in my heart and I will always choose these and recommend these, Lena’s writing is amazing.
Thank you for yet another great novel, I’m obsessed.

This was book two in the series, but it could be read as a stand alone. I would recommend reading book 1 first as there are recurring character's as well as the book is a good read. This is a fast moving, taboo subject (to some) book...but it keeps the reader's attention and the reader tries hard to predict what is going to happen next all throughout their reading it. A great book 2 for the series and I am excited for book 3!
***Please note that this review is mainly for my benefit as it is more of a summary of the book and may contain spoilers.***

My review
Pippa writes columns for a magazine, Belladonna. Ryan plays poker for a living. They are step-siblings.
After Pippa gets evicted from her apartment and being unable to find anywhere else to go, she must move in with Ryan.
The story follows their relationship which starts with a lot of tension, arguing and hate. However, after a kiss which they both try to forget happened, we start to see their relationship blossom.
I really enjoyed this book and loved getting to know the characters. Looking forward to see how the next book unfolds!
Wow! This is my first read from Lena and her writing doesn’t disappoint. Her writing draws you in to her world and leaves you hanging for every sentence.
This is the perfect book for you, it’s part of a series but can be read as a standalone however I need to read more of Lena’s book asap as this was such a fab read 🥰🌶️🔥
This is the second book in the series, and I must admit that Ryan and Pippa make a truly explosive couple.
Ryan has earned a reputation as a womanizer, and with good reason; however, deep down, there's only one woman he truly loves. The problem is that nothing is simple between them they're step-siblings and this situation has led him to hide his true self and his deepest feelings. Ryan carries many fears and has learned to protect himself by keeping everything bottled up inside.
On the other hand, Pippa is an intelligent, strong girl, capable of making her own decisions, although she's not without her insecurities. Fate forces them to live together due to an accident, at least until Pippa finds another place to stay. From the beginning, their relationship is fraught with friction, arguments, and such intense tension that it seemed they were going to kill each other, but it was also impossible to ignore the chemistry between them.
Everything changes with a kiss that alters everything, and they both pretend it didn't happen. But what happens once can always be repeated, and little by little, they begin to realize that what they feel goes beyond something casual. However, Ryan doesn't dare confess his true feelings, and this deeply hurts Pippa, leading them both to suffer, trapped in the uncertainty of not knowing if what began unintentionally could become something real.
The pain is intense, until Ryan finally has no choice but to confront what he feels and fight for Pippa to listen to him. And when she does, she understands not only his feelings but also his fears, his insecurities, and the reasons why he refused to open his heart.
Ultimately, they both had to go through a lot to reach their happy ending, and I loved every moment of the process. I loved seeing them grow together him showing that she is the only woman he will ever love, and her finding in him the love and support she needed. Together, they built their own happy ending.
P.S.: I loved Waffle. That little cat has the same fierceness as her owner. At first, she was wary of Ryan, but then she became an absolute sweetheart. She never left his side and, in a way, she was the real matchmaker in this story. She completely stole my heart, and I have a weakness for pets, so Waffle definitely deserves a shrine 🐾💖.
Now all that's left is to wait for the third book, which has me completely intrigued. I'm eager to discover how this story will unfold ❤️❤️❤️❤️.
This is the last place I want to be, but beggars can’t be choosers. I’ve been kicked out of my apartment. Sure, my landlord’s girlfriend is allergic to cats but how could I say no to the cozy little ball of fluff I found outside my door? So now, cat in hand, I’m forced to move into the last place I ever want to be, at Ryan Archer’s.
Billionaire. Famous poker player. Playboy of epic proportions. Oh, and my stepbrother. We don’t get along. We’re complete opposites. And my secret crush on him has always been my darkest secret. Now I’m living with him surrounded by all his shirtless low-slung grey sweatpants glory.
We bicker. We fight. But he takes care of me effortlessly. He knows me. He looks out for me, especially when my new 12 Dates of Christmas column seems determined to set me up for failure. I’m supposed to be finding love but I may have already found it in a Dirty Savage Player
Was it the story, the writing, the vibes? Yes! Yes, to all of it. This was a book I latched onto and really didn’t want to put down, which is no easy feat with all the Christmas chaos. This book definitely plays into the series, with the side characters being an integral part of the story as well, which I absolutely adore. I love being invested in a series. It gets you super pumped for the following books.
But let’s get to Ryan and Pippa. The banter was there and the chemistry was instinctive. When Pippa moves in, we see them aggravate and antagonize each other, but beneath it all is affection. They care for each other, especially evident in the way Ryan looks out for her. He truly knows her and protects her, and it’s clear how much they mean to one another. All of this is complicated by the shame that comes with their feelings. Watching the tension finally burst was exhilarating. They try to keep it FWB while not realizing how far past that they actually are. These complicated emotions run profoundly and definitely create tension and challenges. Seeing the intensity of their love and finally allowing themselves the connection that has always been there was truly heartwarming.
Thank you to Lena Hunt and The Author Agency for this gifted ecopy!
Pippa is successful writer for Belladonna Magazine. While a hopeless romantic, she has referred to herself as the practice girlfriend, as in the one guys date for a bit until they decide to settle down with someone else. Despite that, she refuses to give up hope. So when her editor asks her to write a series called “12 Dates of Christmas” she jumps on the opportunity to get back in the dating pool. If only she didn’t have to be stuck living with her stepbrother while she does it.
Ryan is known in the tabloids as being the ultimate playboy poker star, with a parade of women coming in and out of his apartment, he has never felt the need to look for anything more. When Pippa is evicted from her apartment and needs a place to stay while she looks for something else, he reluctantly lets her move in, despite the fact that they’ve been sworn enemies since their parents married over a decade ago. As they adjust to living together, and Pippa suffers a series of horrible dates, Ryan always finds himself in a position to rescue her. Eventually, their arguments turn into banter, and eventually they start to feel like more. But when Ryan finally crosses the uncrossable line, they both know nothing will ever be the same again.
I received an early copy of this book from the author and I am obsessed! I didn’t think I could possibly love these characters more than Cat and Nate, but boy was I ever wrong! I loved how Pippa is the only one able to knock Ryan’s ego down a peg or two, and on the flip side, he forces her to stop taking herself so seriously. As much as they both know their relationship could never be more than physical, they show each other how they really feel in the smallest ways, if only they would open their eyes and see it for themselves. This book had me laughing in moments and swooning in others, with Ryan quickly becoming one of my favourite book boyfriends. As always, the dynamic with the boys was absolutely delicious, and I can’t wait to see what James, Beau and Luke have in store for us.
I’ve read a few taboo step-sibling romances lately and this one is easily my favourite of the bunch.
Pippa is a magazine writer who suddenly finds herself facing eviction after her landlord discovers her cat, Waffles, living in the apartment. With nowhere else to go, she reluctantly moves in with her step-brother Ryan, a wealthy, professional poker player and notorious ladies’ man. The problem? They genuinely can’t stand each other and have been antagonising one another ever since their parents got married when they were teenagers.
With strict house rules in place, they attempt to coexist, but when Pippa is given her final editorial assignment of the year, a “12 Days of Christmas Dating” feature, long-buried feelings start to surface. Hate slowly shifts into desire, affection and then something much deeper.
The banter, chemistry and connection between Ryan and Pippa were spot on. Their animosity felt real without ever tipping into cruelty, which I loved. The enemies aspect was done just right. Ryan was the perfect balance of alpha without being controlling, and his obsessiveness and protectiveness absolutely worked for me.
The spice was raw, dirty and hot, hot, hot, but it was the softer moments that really stole my heart. Ryan caring for Pippa when she was sick was ridiculously sweet and cemented his place on my book-boyfriend list. The little things he notices about her show just how closely he’s been paying attention all along, even while claiming to dislike her.
This also features the “I love you but I’m scared to say it” trope, which I usually don’t love, but here it didn’t drag and both characters worked through their feelings fairly quickly.
And finally… Waffles. Truly the standout character. His initial hatred of Ryan mirrored Pippa perfectly, but once a cat chooses you, as Waffles eventually chose Ryan, it’s game over. Cat law. Enough said.
My only wish was that we saw more of Dom Ryan. Yes, he was in control most of the time, but I wanted to see some more of the ‘kinkier’ elements.
“I joke that I want to ruin you for any other man, but you, Pippa Murphy, have already destroyed me.”
Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Kicked out of her apartment, Pippa (and her beloved cat Waffles) are forced to temporarily move in with her stepbrother, renown playboy Ryan Archer. The only problem is that they can't stand each other... even more so as Pippa joins an app in order to find dates for her upcoming holiday article, "the twelve dates of christmas".
This is the second book in the House of Cards series, and I remember meeting Ryan and Pippa in the first and loving Pippa's support (and side-eyeing Ryan's womanizing ways). This is such a great journey as we're introduced to them living together, the chemistry is so there from the start and is absolutely sizzling! The banter is so great as well, you really get sucked into their relationship as things slowly tick to the next level.
I love that there was so much misinterpreted and left unsaid, it really fuels the tension between them as they try to navigate feelings for something they definitively think they shouldn't. The taboo aspect is done so well, the sneaking around and steaming-hot stolen moments really had me flying through this. And then the sweeter moments, as well - the way Ryan shows he secretly cares had me kicking my feet, and the way that Pippa hopes and is so unapologetically herself had my whole heart. Her dates were so fun to read about (esp with how they got Ryan so worked up) and I loved getting a peek at her articles.
An amazing addition to this series - I am for sure hooked! And very excited with the little peek we get of the next, it sounds so fun.

FMC: Pippa MMC: Ryan Tropes: forbidden romance (step-sibling), enemies-to-lovers, billionaire playboy, forced proximity, holiday themed, he knows her best Spice Rating: Three Series: Yes | Interconnected Series - House of Cards POV: Dual Cliffhanger: No
Where do I start?
This was even better than the first House of Cards book (which I also loved). Truthfully, it was the banter that hooked me. It’s the thing I love most when it comes to an enemies-to-lovers book. And this one had alllll the banter!
This book also has a bit of a holiday theme, perfect for this time of year.
I swooned over the chemistry between the characters. Even when they ‘hated’ each other, the two of them still cared (in their own way). Especially Ryan. He truly knows Pippa best. The small things he remembers and does shows how much he pays attention. A trait that is attractive in a partner.
Plus, when these two finally collide… combustable.
My feelings on side characters are mixed. I’m not even sure how to describe it considering I’ve rewritten this a few times now. Obviously nothing that kept me from reading… but enough to notice how crappy some of the people in Pippa’s life seem and the lack of support. Then again, Pippa isn’t one to burden others and share her problems. She tries to take everything on that comes her way by herself.
Finally, I thought the failed dates for Pippa’s story were hilarious. In a sadly relatable, funny way.
I’m glad things worked out and both characters found a love worth fighting for, even if there was some heartbreak along the way.
I recommend reading Pippa and Ryan’s story which releases soon. In the meantime, you can read Cat and Nate’s story in Bossy Wicked Prince.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Thank you to the author, Lena Hunt, and PR agency for giving me the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book.
I came upon this book by accident and I'm really glad I did. It was super a super fun, light read with all the spice! 4.5 stars for me!
Loved the premise - Rich poker player, Ryan, takes in his stepsister, Pippa, when she gets evicted for having a cat in her apartment. Forced proximity leads to house rules, witty banter, and raging hate that eventually turns to love. Pippa's a writer who takes on an experiment to do a "12 dates of Christmas," article based on her experiences, so she puts herself on a dating app. The resulting dates are both relatable and hilarious, and along the way, Ryan and Pippa discover their feelings for each other.
My thoughts:
1. My favorite part about this book is the banter. The witty barbs thrown between Pippa and Ryan are top tier and had me laughing out loud at times. The writing is sharp and clever. It definitely nailed the whole enemies to lovers vibe.
2. The spice is absolute fire and it builds throughout, and I loved the holiday setting. Also - I feel like I learned so much about poker in this book, and the games between Ryan and Pippa were a super fun ride. It was a unique take that I really enjoyed.
3. This is part of an interconnected series (House of Cards) but can be read as a standalone. I read this after Bossy Wicked Prince, so it was nice to see those characters in this book and keep the story flowing.
4. Word to wise: A little taboo with the whole romance between stepsiblings, so if that's not your vibe maybe skip it. I personally don't have an issue with it, but wanted to put that out there. Also, there was a side plot with Pippa's dad that kind of got dropped and was left unresolved. That's personally my only complaint with this book.
This is the second book in the House of Cards series, where Ryan and Pippa form a dynamic couple. Ryan, known for his womanizing ways, harbors deep feelings for Pippa, his stepsister. Their complex relationship is filled with tension and unresolved emotions. Pippa, a strong and intelligent woman, also struggles with insecurities.
Pippa's new circumstances force her and Ryan into temporary proximity, leading to friction and intense chemistry between them. A kiss changes everything, sparking a realization that their feelings are more than casual. Ryan grapples with confessing his true emotions, causing pain and uncertainty for both of them.
We are enjoying this series and its characters. The engaging plot of this story is enhanced by the Christmas and holiday vibes, adding extra family drama to their complicated situation. Pippa's job as a writer for a magazine involves creating a new article that is more hands-on than usual, as she decides to write about 12 holiday-themed Christmas dates.
The story is humorous as we witness the challenges of the dating scene for a single woman. The chemistry between Ryan and Pippa is intense, but their lack of communication and external influences create obstacles. How do they navigate their intense connection and overwhelming chemistry? We found this book captivating and couldn't put it down.
The characters are well-developed, engaging, and endearing. The story includes an enemy-to-lovers dynamic, billionaire playboys, taboo romance, witty banter, and a sexy and entertaining plot. The resolution for this couple's love story is perfect, and the moments between Ryan and Waffle are heartwarming and delightful.
Pippa met him at age fourteen and immediately developed a crush. As stepsiblings, their relationship became one of insults and bullying. Then, kicked out of her apartment, she is forced to move in with him. He is a poker playing playboy with an endless cycle of women flowing through the apartment at all hours of the day and night. She is a magazine content writer and bookworm. She is then given the opportunity to write an article “The 12 dates of Christmas.” Ryan uses these dates to tease her. Secretly, he is jealous of these men getting to date her. I loved this story so much. This is a first read for me by this author and I enjoyed everything about it. The writing style, storyline, character development, and world building are top notch. There is just enough tension between the characters to have the reader devouring each page, hoping for them to get over their relationship hang-ups and finally see each other as a possible love match. I would rate the spice level as a definite 5 out of 5 stars as there are very descriptive scenes. If you are looking for a meaningful romantic story with humor sprinkled throughout, I would add this story to your list of potential reads. As this is book 2 of the series, I can attest that it is possible to read this story as a standalone. However, other characters are mentioned throughout the novel, and I wish I had been able to start at the beginning of the series, just for more context. I received this novel for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the novels in this series and anything else this author has written.
3.5 ⭐ | ✨ When they cross a line they can't come back from, they have to decide whether to bet on each other, or fold and walk away.
📚 Ryan is a professional poker player who doesn’t believe in relationships or happily ever afters. He’s happy to keep living that lifestyle until his step-sister (with whom he has an antagonistic relationship) moves in with him. Pippa is on an assignment writing about the “12 Dates of Christmas” for a women’s magazine. Ryan isn’t quite sure why he’s so bothered about who see’s dating.
💭 The banter between Ryan and Pippa is strong, and you can feel some tension from their very first scene together. I really enjoyed the premise of Pippa’s articles and reading about the various dates she endures for the sake of her job. Ryan’s reactions to her each time hint at feelings that are deeper than he lets on, and watching that play out was an enjoyable ride. The writing, pace, banter, and secondary characters all come together to make this an engaging read.
This one led me to think about my reading preferences around forbidden or taboo romances. I think step-sibling romances only work for me if the characters are adults when their parents marry. In this one, they were in high school, which I bumped on a little bit. But if that trope is one you enjoy, this is definitely one to check out.
☑️ For fans of: Forbidden romance (step-sibling), forced proximity, roommates, enemies to lovers, billionaire vibes, playboy
I was kindly provided an ARC, but my review is honest and completely my own.
This second instalment in the billionaire series follows Pippa and Ryan's irresistible, slow burn romance.
When Pippa is evicted from her apartment because of her beloved rescue cat Waffle, she reluctantly moves in with her Stepbrother, Ryan, while searching for a new place to live. A devoted, overworked writer for Belladonna Magazine, Pippa struggles to say no to her demanding editor, Ingrid - especially when she's assigned to write a festive new feature titled 12 Dates of Christmas.
The premise is simple, twelve dates with men she meets on a dating app. The reality? Not so much. After barley landing a handful of matches, Ryan steps in to help revamp Pippa's dating profile, and suddenly she's flooded with over two hundred potential suitors.
Ryan is the quintessential billionaire playboy, but he quickly finds himself with a front row seat to Pippa's increasingly disastrous dates - often swooping in to rescue her from awkward or downright awful situations. As forced proximity turns into undeniable chemistry, long buried feelings begin to surface, feelings they've both harboured since the moment they first met.
While Pippa longs for something lasting, Ryan is convinced he's not the forever kind of man. Caught between desire, emotional walls, and the taboo of their stepsibling connection, they must confront their fears and acknowledge what's been there all along. Only then can they discover whether they're willing to risk everything for the chance at a true happily ever after.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Tropes Found family Writer and poker player (usually a DNR character flaw for me, and whilst it still isnt my favourite and it is mentioned a lot in the book, im glad i kept on reading.) Wealthy MMC Stepbrother/stepsister
This one hooked me well in! I simply couldn't get enough of it.
The taboo nature of Ryan, a poker player and Pippa, a columnist, was key to the storyline and yet the romance still hit really wonderfully. The spice was filthy and delicious.
I loved these characters. Ryan was so hot and lost but really he knew and I couldn't get enough. Pippa being a writer and in to books? Being over worked and people pleasing? Absolutely here for it all. And the cat? Loved it too.
This story was messy and complex and well written so that it just kept drawing you in. I thought the side characters including Pippa's mum and her dad as well as the friend group, really helped ground this story in reality. It's small moment in books that do it for me - small unexpcted or unusual takes from what you would usuallt get for example Ryan's unexpected openness with James, not his usual bestie, that keeps storied like this one geeling fresh and different.
Lost half a point because really I could have done with a hint more angst or grief to really take this to 5 star territory. More about the emotional trauma and what each of them went through growing up. However the story very much worked without this and I still absolutely loved it.
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 – The chemistry between the leads is undeniable - volatile, magnetic, and simmering with the kind of tension that comes from wanting what you absolutely should not touch. Their dynamic is fueled by proximity, shared history, and emotional landmines. Lena Hunt excels at writing morally gray attraction; you feel the pull even when you’re questioning it. Where the book shines is in its willingness to explore desire, guilt, and vulnerability without pretending the situation is comfortable or clean.
𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬 – I feel like so much happened between the family Christmas party, the friend Christmas party, the double date with Jacob, the beach vacation/poker tournament and then finally getting to the NYE party. I didn’t go back to factually check the timeline but by the time I got to the NYE party it didn’t seem realistic that all that had happened between Christmas day and New Year’s Eve.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 – I will be completely honest and say I was uncomfortable for most of this read. However, I RARELY DNF a book and this one was compelling enough to continue. Dirty Savage Player delivers exactly what the title promises: intensity, obsession, and a romance that knowingly toes the line. Lena Hunt leans hard into the taboo step-sibling relationship, and while that element won’t be for everyone, it’s handled with a deliberate awareness that makes it compelling rather than gratuitous.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YES!!!!!!!! Dirty Savage Player was everything I want in a dark, addictive romance and then some. Lena Hunt delivers a story that is unapologetically intense, wickedly sexy, and emotionally charged in all the right ways. From the very beginning, the book pulls you in with its sharp edge and never lets up.
The male lead is exactly what the title promises—dirty, savage, and dangerously irresistible. He’s morally gray, dominant, and completely magnetic. But what really makes the story work is the depth beneath the rough exterior. The chemistry between the characters is explosive, and every interaction crackles with tension, desire, and power struggles that feel raw and real.
I loved how Lena Hunt balances spice with substance. The heat is definitely there (and wow, it’s hot), but the emotional push and pull, the vulnerability, and the character growth elevate this beyond just a steamy read. The dialogue is sharp, the pacing is tight, and the stakes keep you turning pages late into the night.
If you’re into dark romance with a ruthless alpha, intense chemistry, and a storyline that keeps you hooked from start to finish, Dirty Savage Player is absolutely worth the read. Lena Hunt knows how to write obsession, passion, and danger in a way that leaves you wanting more. Highly recommend. 🔥📖
Ryan and Pippa are a mess, but an entertaining one. He’s a professional poker player with a carefully maintained reputation, and she’s smart, capable, and already exhausted before she even moves in with her stepbrother. Their banter is sharp, petty in the best way, and genuinely funny. The mutual disdain at the beginning is half the appeal.
The setup is objectively chaotic. Forced proximity, step-siblings, and a holiday assignment that requires Pippa to go on twelve dates with other men while Ryan watches from the sidelines, slowly unraveling. On paper, it sounds like too much. In practice, it’s handled with enough restraint that it never feels ridiculous.
Ryan’s slow emotional spiral was easily the highlight. He spends most of the book insisting he’s not the commitment type while behaving like someone who very much is. Pippa doesn’t let him off the hook either. She pushes back, calls him out, and refuses to make herself smaller just to keep the peace, which I appreciated.
The step-sibling angle will be an immediate no for some readers, and that’s fair. For me, it worked more as added tension than shock value. Also worth noting: Waffle the cat is the most emotionally stable character in the household and absolutely deserves a mention.
Thank you to Lena Hunt and Booksirens for a free copy!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ This one is messy in a way I actually enjoyed. Ryan is a full-on playboy with a reputation and zero emotional self-control when it comes to Pippa. Pippa is smart, capable, and already exhausted before she’s forced into living with the one man she should absolutely not be falling for. The step-sibling angle adds tension immediately, and the banter between them is sharp and charged right out of the gate. The forced proximity plus the holiday dating assignment just pours gasoline on everything. One kiss flips the switch and suddenly nothing feels casual anymore. Ryan starts coming undone where Pippa is concerned, which was honestly my favorite part. He’s all confidence until he’s not. Pippa doesn’t make it easy for him either. She pushes back, calls him on his crap, and refuses to pretend she doesn’t feel things just to make it simpler. There’s a lot of chemistry here, a good amount of angst, and plenty of moments where you’re yelling at both of them to just say what they mean already. It’s spicy, fast-moving, and emotionally charged without being overwhelming. Four stars for me. Fun, addictive, and definitely kept me reading. Thank you to Lena Hunt and The Author Agency for the ARC. I’m voluntarily leaving this review.
This series is becoming one of my favorites and we only have 2 books so far!
Pippa and Ryan have off the chart chemistry before they’re ever together - the forbidden aspect just adds fuel to their flames.
I’m not usually a fan of step-siblings trope but this one didn’t give me the ick feeling - I kind of forget sometimes and thought it was enemies to lovers because their banter with each other was so good!
I loved Pippa’s job writing articles for an online magazine played in throughout the story with her dating app mishaps, learning about the Dom world, and even the final story - beautiful way to tie it all together!
Pippa is a girl after my own heart - she speaks her truth, she wants the real love, she knows her worth and she loves to binge watch Vampire Diaries!
Ryan is swoon worthy with his quick witted banter, jealous tendencies, and caring nature for only her.
Waffle is a true cat star in this story - I need more Waffle mischief!
And Emily - Pippa’s mom and Ryan’s stepmom - is such a gem of a character. I absolutely loved her point of view for both of them.
I need to know who Peppermint is causing chaos!! I can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you to The Author Agency for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Oh my, The House of Cards series keeps getting sexier with each new book. Lena Hunt’s newest in the series is Dirty Savage Player . This author has not disappointed me with any and all aspects of her books. Writing style, beautiful and heartfelt characters that are well developed, sexy, and fall hard for the women their hearts decide to love. I am totally in love with this series. Ryan is one HOT super successful poker player. Unfortunately, Ryan’s choice of career is not acceptable to his father. Their relationship is not great. Pippa is Ryan’s stepsister who has recently been forced out of her apartment and has to move in with him because her mom and his dad will not help Pippa. There are multiple tropes within Dirty Savage Player. The Forbidden Step-sibling trope is one that I have never read before and let me tell you it was so HOT in my opinion with tons of banter between Ryan and Pippa. The between-the-sheets scenes you wonder about? Well, whether you read or listen to Dirty Savage Player you will definitely need that fan! No matter whether you’ve read &/or listened to a Lena Hunt book before or are new to this author I’m quite confident you will completely and utterly fall in love with Ryan and Pippa.
I kept putting off starting this book because I knew as soon as I started I’d be finishing it in one sitting, and Dirty Savage Player with Ryan and Pippa’s taboo step sibling relationship did not disappoint. Really appreciated the relationship dynamics between the parents in this book and between the various parents and the main characters. It felt real, messy, authentic, and kind of gut wrenching. Lots of pop culture references and a bit repetitive to the first in the series, but we're working with 2 sets of best friends that live in the same building - the crossover is real. I really enjoyed this book and I eagerly await the rest of the House of Cards men to get their story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I am SO pleasantly surprised and refreshed by this book. I'd checked out the first installment in the series and enjoyed it, but this second one was something special. I've found myself becoming burnt out by so many MMCs having the same exact physical traits in EVERY recent romance, and Ryan was such a nice change (FINALLY, an MMC with a haircut that's not just "short on the sides, long on top). The stepsibling trope was really well done and just taboo enough to be exciting without being weird or over the top. Our FMC, MAN, I just loved her. She's a writer for a women's magazine, and I was so happy to see her have such passion for her craft even when she was struggling with her personal life. Their happy ending feels earned, without being a stressful read, and I haven't seen such well fleshed out characters (including side characters) in awhile. I'm genuinely excited for the next book in the series, and LOVE that there's an interactive mystery throughout the books.
I ARC requested this as a complementary book and then immediately downloaded it on KU for myself after, and genuinely can't stop thinking about it. Highly recommend for fans of Kate Oliver, Layla Frost, SJ Tilly, and Sadie Kincaid.
