About the author

A.E. Rayne

24 books673 followers
A.E. Rayne is an epic fantasy author from New Zealand who grew up with a love of history and, thanks to her beloved Swedish grandmother, a fascination with Vikings. Unable to locate or build a time machine as a child, she instead invented her own worlds and thrilling adventures. In them, she was usually wielding a sword, overcoming impossible odds, and heroically saving the day. She is tenacious, dogged, willful, loyal, and brutally honest. Which, if you’ve read her books, might just remind you of her most famous character, Jael Furyck.

She has a degree in Communication Studies with a major in television and has also trained as a graphic designer. So not only does she write vivid, cinematic books, but she designs their covers as well.

When she’s not writing, she enjoys staying home with her husband, their three children and a menagerie of animals, endlessly planning trips she never takes. Though one day…

Some time had passed since the reading the previous book in the series. i found that once beginning this book, after that time gap, I was a bit lost on what happened previously, and the main characters were a bit foggy. It took a while before getting it back. I also recalled Ms Raynes writing style, where she jumps around constantly in the course of each chapter, focusing on multiple characters and scenarios. This used to bug me initially, but I gradually got used to it. This story is a little less intense than some of the previous, but it still has plenty of kick! I can appreciate the talent and imagination it takes to write a series like this, and I hope the next volume comes quickly!

Epic storytelling

Another stunning story about our Furyck Queen and her band of allies. God's, witches, dreamers, and man come together to fight each other. Who wins?

Lots of questions answered in this installment, but even more left unanswered. The pieces are moving on the board and heading to a climatic ending, but will Jael be a part of the looming battle? Will we see a reunited Eadmund and Jael? Will Mattie defeat the Mistress? What will Edela and Raymon do on their quest?

Can't wait for the final book...it's going to be epic!

Incredibly enchanted

I couldn't put this book down.... Ok I realize that's the same as the last 18 booms. Y'all this entire series has been non stop action adventures love and heart brake ... Book 19 does not disappoint.

You will be on the edge of your seat biting your nails and losing sleep to find out if your favorite character is ok and what on earth is happening with the others because this is so well written that each switch of POV is a cliff hanger.

Do t take.my word for it find out for yourself I'd Edmond is going to survive or will our Queen be the one to fall ... I'm not saying but hold your breath dive in and pray your pulled out in time to find out what happens next

These 19 books are amazing! It was hooked on the writing style from the beginning. I love the way we jump between characters, and how things happens suddenly.
I hate when people die, but I can appreciate when an author writes it beautifully and surprisingly.
And A.E. Rayne does that.
I legit thought this would be the last book in the series, and the last 20% I was like 'what?!? And I need to know more?! What about....?'
And the ending. The fucking ending.
And the book before that, my heart was stomped on. Fuck.
I need the last one now!

The Black Eyed Queen continues A.E. Rayne’s epic fantasy saga with layered political intrigue, shifting alliances, and multiple interconnected storylines across a sprawling world.

The narrative juggles court tension, mystery, and battlefield consequences as characters navigate deception, murder, and rising conflict.
With its large cast and expansive scope, the book emphasizes momentum, suspense, and long arc storytelling typical of serialized epic fantasy, especially for readers already invested in the Fate of the Furycks series.

So good!!

This author never disappoints. She wraps up varying story lines with amazing characters that speak and act their story to strong effect. Every character that enters the tale has a strong presence and I enjoy this so much. Nothing seems forced or false. Such enjoyable reads!!!

What an excellent series! When I first dove in, I found myself lost and unable to keep up with the massive cast of characters. However, once I went back and read the books in their proper order, everything changed. I finally understood the character dynamics and the overarching plot, and now I am completely captivated. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the final book this August!

By far the best fantasy book series I have ever read! I love the action build up, the real anticipation it creates in you - I could not put it down as I HAD to know what happened next. Fantastically addictive series with a kick arse female lead protagonist.

I’m going to start the whole series from the beginning as I just cannot wait for the final book…does it have to end?
