Control, order, precision—Emma Rowland had mastered them all. That is, until a single phone call shattered her perfectly curated life.
Her father's untimely death uncovers long-buried family secrets, thrusting her into the role of guardian for three half-siblings—Willow, Meadow, and Geoffrey—whom she never knew existed. Now, her once-pristine Manhattan apartment is now scattered with sticky fingerprints, plastic dinosaurs, and damp bathing suits.
The only person unfazed by the chaos is Chloe Peters, the optimistic music teacher who is supposed to help, not make Emma question everything she thought she wanted.
Between bedtime meltdowns and breakfast disasters, Emma discovers the life she built might not be the one she needs or wants. As the kids and Chloe become the center of her world, Emma faces her most daunting challenge facing the past to build a new future.
DOMESTICATED is a heartfelt, witty story about the family we choose and the love we never saw coming—perfect for readers who enjoy found family, slow-burn romance, and characters who learn that sometimes the best plans are the ones that fall gloriously apart.
DOMESTICATED is a stand-alone spin-off of JA Armstrong’s best-selling series, OFF SCREEN.
Wow! See, Keller McKnight, this is how to right a story. Beginning, Middle & End. Lovely. Looking forward to book 2. I love the way JA writes about families.
Whoops: assume book 2: Grounded not out yet!
PS: Why JA Armstong’s Goodreads lists on 2 separate sites? Domesticated is with 2 children books! Confused? I am!
Of the 550+ boooks that I've read this year I think this one is my absolute favourites. The kids were absolutely adorable and I loved watching Emma's character develop as she was forced to adjust to the chaos arising from having three young children thrust into her previously ordered world. I was wonderful to see the support that she received from her friends as well as her willingness to do whatever was necessary to help the kids adjust. I also enjoyed the connection between Emma and Chloe and the bond that both women developed with the kids.
I'm hooked. There is no surprise that this author has given us another well written romance with strong characters, great dialogue and an engaging story. I'm hooked. This new series is so fun, heart fluttering, tender and warming it’s hard to put down. JA/Nancy you keep me in laughter, feeling warm and a calm in a world that’s so full of dark clouds. Keep the stories coming.
4.5 stars. Fantastic book! Another heartwarming and good feels book from Armstrong! I adored Emma and her presence through loss as well as Chloe and her nurturing qualities! This book was just what I needed! Anyway, elated for the next installment of this series!
This is the start to hopefully another great serious. Provides l emotions available through a powerful, funny and loving story. Emma and Chloe are great together and the kids add a great dynamic to the story.
Emma is a powerful corporate lawyer, but is unsatisfied by her life. She works, she goes home or she goes out for drinks at her friend Maggie and Nia's bar. Then she finds out her father died....
Arriving in LA she finds out her Dad had had a long term relationship with a woman not her Mom. AND they have 3 kids, and with their parents dead she's the next of kin.
Maggie flies out to help, and she suggests s friend of a friend to be a nanny, Chloe Peters. She's picking her wounds after being cheated on, and this job would buy her time to figure things out.
The kids are not handling moving to New York well, but Emma and Chloe do their best. And as they take care of the kids, Emma starts getting attached to Chloe.
Talking to her Mom's best friend Diane, Emma learns that she knew about the other woman, and that her Mom and Diane were lovers.
And... it's the step mom's fault Emma was never told. But cliche to blame the evil stepmom, really.
JA Armstrong is always a must read for me. She gets family dynamics like no other. She puts you through the emotional ringer but it is always wrapped in love.
This was just what I needed on this snowy day. It was like slipping into a hot bath...it warmed me to my core.
