Wives and Wands #2

Wives and Wands 2

Rate this book
A letter in silver on black, courting the crown princess, and a moonlit dance in the dark.

I came to the academy to follow a dream. My world was my wife, my daughter, and the simple life I knew. Now, I'm courting Lucretia, the crown princess, all while my devoted wife supports me.

I've only made it through half a semester, and the second half looms, yet my studies are the least of my problems. Courting the future queen is a dream I never imagined, but the dark and beautiful heiress, Juliet Bellafleur, only grows more volatile the longer we're together.

And it isn't only the attention of the two future most powerful women that I've drawn.

All I can do is my best. Learning about the essence I wield, being a husband and father to my wife and daughter, and courting a princess who wants to give me everything are only the beginning of my ever-growing list of responsibilities.

This book was pretty good, but not great. At times, it feels more like erotica wrapped up in a political wrapper, and it's all petty politics. It's also very high on drama, more than it really needs to be.

The MC has the princess committed to a relationship, but her former secret female lover is being a major brat. The wife is basically a nymphomaniac with a cuckquean fetish. The whole book was sexual tension of would the princess finally have sex with the MC or not, something that wasn't resolved until the very end. And while some sex scenes were decent, most were repetitive and thus boring.

I may read another in this series, but I'll have to be in the mood for it.

Disappointed that author shied away from lesbian romance

One of the few things I loved about the previous volume was the established lesbian relationship between two of the FMCs, and the clear and aggressive bisexual interests of MC's wife.

While this book doesn't deny those aspects of the romance, the author studiously avoids advancing them further. We went from long sapphic makeout sessions to a single chaste kiss that had to be encouraged/allowed by MC.

I can only imagine this was to avoid offending a certain subgroup of male harem readership.

The previous book featured a cowardly MC. This one showcases a cowardly author.

Beyond that, excellent writing. The pacing was solid - neither magical theory/details nor romantic dialogue dragged on, where it did sometimes in the first book. Author's descriptions are detailed and evocative without being flowery. The female characters are all interesting and desirable, if not complex.

And most importantly, MC is not as passive, indecisive or meek as he was previously. Thank the goddess. I'm looking forward, however, to him not being entirely dependent on the princess. He needs a little more pride.

Once again I'll give the next book a read, mainly because the FMCs are all babes.

Interesting Premise, lacking a bit in execution

The premise is interesting. The MC is attending a magic academy where due to the nature of his upbringing he is behind everyone. He’s poor, and has to overcome.

However, how he is overcoming is through his dick.

While that can be an interesting enough plot device, he’s not putting any of his talents to use. He is apparently an amazing artist, and a decent mage. But he never uses those skills to do anything other than get laid.

The two love interests in this book, the two princesses, are really pretty boring. While having a single character that is a willing submissive slave to the MC, now he has 3, and honestly, they are a yawn.

3 out of 5 stars, it’s an ok read if you enjoy run of the mill harem stories, but the plot could be much better.

Better than the first!

This a fine example of the sequel taking it up a notch, I plowed through this the morning it released and it was an incredible ride, the way the story developed and how our MCs relationships developed is fantastic, the spice is very hot and incredibly well done, the author Emily seems to have a natch for great sexual tension and it's felt throughout the book and it feels so natural with all our characters. I hope we get at least a few more books out of this series because it's becoming a guilty pleasure when I want a more sexual spicy book as aposed to a more traditional haremlit/fantasy.

Unfortunately, this installment lost its plot and reads like the plot of a bad porno. The MC has some sort of unusual type of magic, yet there is no attempt to teach him to use it by the faculty. The MC spends the entire semester in a lust haze, perving on every woman he comes across. Additionally, there is no real conflict in the novel except for the pretty mild question of whether Juliet will come around.

There is no real explanation of how he is able to get away with violating social mores, and the lack of conflict makes this a mess of a book. If you are just looking for porn without plot, then I guess you will like this book, but personally I like to have a plot and some reason for the women to go against society if that is the case in the world as written.

I really loved this sequel to book 1. I love Emily 's writing style, the short clipped dialogue between the characters where do much is left unsaid and our steadfast MC sometimes succeeding and sometimes flailing. some great little twists and turns in this as well.

not worth removing a star for it but there are about a dozen small grammar errors where the wrong word is used. it's a small thing but there are more than the first book. Emily is you are reading this and ever want someone to proofread for you, let me know!

I'm hooked, keep the books coming 😉

Fantastic sequel

I had just finished the first book, and then then boom sequel was released. Honestly, it has some of the most realistic portrayals of how difficult a multi partner relationship would be. I really hope in the next one we can actually see behind the veil on what Juliet was thinking the whole time, have an actual discussion, and airing of grievances. Great stuff. Can't wait for more.

A great second showing

The second offering of Rowan's days learning magic is great. New threads of intrigue and expanding spice are fantastic as Rowan grows as a mage and becomes more entwined with the goings on of nobility due to his courtship of Lucretia and their growing relationship. The climax of this book is both awesome and full of spice, with well desired payoff beyond expectations. Eagerly awaiting book 3.

Author cooked here. Hard.

Really, really hits the spot of that Victorian era romance with fantasy and magic. The writing is clean and for the most part, easy to follow. There are some times I have trouble tracking but I think that's my own stumble but also maybe some of that 'of the era' writing style.

Excellent sequel and I look forward to the next one and others.

More please

Loving this series looking forward to more loving the domination in another of the story. I also love how the girls are willing to learn what he likes along with the wife. Hope the professor joined the growing harem. He needs that teacher personally in the harem to help round it out and him as well. Looking forward to the next volume.

Surprisingly entertaining

Not a deep series, no hero per se, no real villainy thus far. However, all the elements are there. If author stays the course and expands once schooling finished this could be an exceptional series. Was not expecting much when picked first book, was happy book two was waiting when first completed.

To toxic

I hate to say it, but reading about Juliet’s toxic bitterness put me off. I know that deep down she really has feelings for our MC, and I expect some kind of big reveal later on, but this just isn’t the sort of fun read I’m looking for right now. Maybe I’ll come back to this later.

Good story and characters.

Lots of grammatical errors. The worst is the misuse of "I" for example "congratulate Lucretia and I's engagement" should be "Lucretia and my". Or "take her and I" should be "take her and me". Really painful to see these mistakes.

I genuinely love this series

This was a Another treat to read, I love how much depth characters have, the simple academy life plot with a good mix of drama and seeing Rowan grow as a mage and in social standing. This was a treat to read so my thanks to the author.

a fantastic sophomore effort

The second book of Wives and Wands delivers in spades, it is hard to believe this is only the second book by the author. Great character development, an intriguing magic system…and Isabelle. Just fantastic

Still on the fence

Im still not sure how id rate this series, its packed full of spice and its interesting enough, but I just feel like somthing is lacking in either story or character development.

Id give it probably a solid 6.5 with on my scale is still a good book.

This book and it's characters are amazing. It is baffling that this was made by a new author. I am fully on board for the next book.

I really enjoy how all the females finally get along. All really like his little princess. Seems he will have to be a little more cold-blooded. I will enjoy watching his healing evolve. The bartender's wife will be a great example of him being able to heal the working class.
