This book was such a surprise for me! I was immediately interested based on some of my favorite romantasy tropes: slow burn, one bed, lost heir, strong FMC, and fated mates.
What I wasn’t expecting was to be so affected by the main character’s story that I found myself crying 😭 and wishing there was more time.
I loved the dynamic between the FMC and MMC, Lexa and Griff, and I’m excited to see how the development of their relationship continues to take shape amidst the trials threatening to devour their world. I cannot wait for the second book!
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the ARC in exchange for a honest review.
I loved it. I love lexa and Griffin. I also loved the writing. I loved the cliffhanger at the end. I loved how we get flashbacks of Violet’s POV of the past. This was my favorite part. I also loved learning about Lexa’s family. I loved Griffin and their romance. I loved the steamy science towards the end of the novel. I also loved the battle scene at the end. I loved the magic system and finding out about the heir. Overall, a great book. I want to thank the author for letting me read the earc early and for accepting me on the street team.
"Lexa Andrever, adventure awaits." Ohhh! This had me hooked in chapter one! It made me think of Moana at the beginning and it turned into so much more!
I enjoyed Lexa's insights and her sharp sense of humor; she is a funny FMC! Griff's character also added to the enjoyment, and the playful banter between them made the reading experience even more entertaining. While the story incorporates elements from other books, it remains engaging and thrilling throughout. There are also some twists I didn't see coming!
Lexa learns she belongs to a different realm and is meant to save it, along with her Champion, Griff. The world building brings us into the story and keeps us engaged. It has a beautiful flow and reads smoothly and effortlessly. I love how the magic was explained; I felt like I was learning right along with Lexa. The vivid imagery puts me in the story and I forget I'm reading. The playful exchanges between Lexa and Griff were enjoyable; as well as others. I love the slow burn and their relationship as a whole.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it kept me completely engaged and fascinated throughout. The writing was exceptional, making the reading experience truly enjoyable. Great cliffhanger at the end; I am very intrigued as to what Megan has planned for book 2!
Thank you Megan and BookFunnel for the arc. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
"Didn't I tell you I'll always find you?"
"I've learned, in this endless time of darkness, to take joy wherever I can find it. You never know when it will come again. And those moments of lightness? They sustain you when the darkness comes."
"And when the world tells you that love is a luxury you can't afford, .... remember that love is what you're fighting for."
"No matter what happens. Love is what makes every sacrifice worth it."
Starfire’s Heir has everything I want in a fantasy read. Lost princesses, prophecies, a unique magic system, bodyguards. It checked every box and then some.
This is one of those books I struggled to put down, not because it is nonstop action, but because I needed to know what Lexa was going to do or say next. She completely carried this story for me. I loved her. She has a filter, she just refuses to use it, and the result is a fiery, take-no-nonsense FMC who drops F bombs, almost as much as I do, and does exactly what she wants. It was so much fun to read.
And then we have Griff. Sir. He is aggravating in the way that makes you want to shake him and also keep reading. The banter between him and Lexa was so good, but there were definitely moments where I wanted to smack him upside the head.
Finn and Freya deserve their own mention because I adored them. They are not throwaway side characters at all. They add so much heart and humor to the story and made the world feel fuller.
The overall plot is familiar, evil rising, FMC trying to stop it, but the way it is executed felt fresh. The magic system in particular stood out. Everyone has magic, but how it manifests and how each person interacts with it is different, which made it feel really dynamic and interesting. I also loved how the magic tied directly into the world building.
Speaking of the world, Megan Phillips does a great job of giving us vivid descriptions without slowing the story down. We get to explore different parts of the world, with clear hints that there is so much more coming in future books.
And the ending. Not a brutal cliffhanger, thank the gods, but just enough to leave you wanting more.
I had so much fun with this one and I am already impatiently waiting for the next book.
- ARC Review- I finally finished my read of Starfire's Heir & holy moly I did not expect to still be connecting dots & creating new theories lol. It's not a major cliffhanger thankfully, but there is still so much we need to know. Lexa & Griff are perfect. I hope you love slow burn because I wanted them both to quit doubting their feelings & just be together. The tension & the banter is chef's kiss, especially with Lexa's funny/snarky personality. I hated how much Griff's ex kept popping back in & disrupting their progress. She was insufferable. Lexa's grandfather made me want to fight 🤣. I hope he has more character growth in the next book since he finally softened up a bit in the end. I also love Finn! I seriously hope he gets an amazing HEA for how sweet he is. I love how Violet was strong enough to do what needed to be done while ensuring that she could still help Lexa in the future. The amount of devotion all of these characters had for each other & their kingdom no matter the cost is incredible & heartbreaking at the same time. There are a couple of open door spice scenes towards the end for those who prefer to skip those parts.

Thank you Megan Phillips for an e-arc of the book, I greatly appreciated it!
There is a lot to unpack in this book and every chapter throws you in a different direction then the previous! The pacing of the book helped keep me intrigued on what would happen next, or even what information may be pivotal. There was also that cryptic information on who certain characters were talked about and all I needed was more information on them!
Lexa was a long lost princess stolen away during an event who grew up in a small village, whisked away by a gruff golden retriever man to return to her rightful place in the kingdom. But the darkness that threatens her kingdom has been sitting and waiting for the right moment to destroy everyone she loves.
Between learning her fate, trying not to fall in love and surviving what has already been written, Lexa has a long way to go before she can rest and live. Griff her gruff golden retriever bodyguard, ever the patient man and fated mate has his hands full when Lexa certainly test that patience.

Starfire’s Heir by Megan Phillips is a classic high fantasy romance filled with prophecy, hidden identity, and a heroine discovering she is far more than she ever believed herself to be.
Lexa Andrever begins her journey as a simple farm girl—but her life is turned upside down when she learns she is the lost heir to a kingdom on the brink of darkness.
What makes this story compelling is its sense of destiny versus self-discovery. Lexa doesn’t just step into power—she struggles with it, resists it, and slowly learns what it means to carry a fate she never asked for.
Alongside her is Griff Narvene, a guarded warrior sworn to protect her. Their dynamic unfolds through:
* slow-burn emotional tension * protector vs heir dynamic * trust built through shared danger * duty vs desire * prophecy vs personal choice
The romance is subtle but steady, growing in the background of a larger battle between light and darkness.
This is a story about becoming—into power, identity, and love.
What a bang of a debut for a book. I was completely enthralled by this book. The only thing I found frustrating about this book was I had to keep stopping and engage in real life.
I loved the story, the characters, the world building, and the emotion damage it wrought on me. I was gasping, squealing, kicking my feet, laughing, holding back tears.
And when it says the love story is a slow burn, it is actually slow (and I felt, done right). It’s full of tension, banter, teasing, will they/won’t they and had me on the edge of my seat.
I did appreciate that it didn’t end on a major cliffhanger. I felt everything for this book’s main plot was resolved with things set up nicely to continue the series. I also liked that not all the questions were answered and but leaves more to be discovered as the series progresses.
All in all, a fantastic book that I would highly recommend.
Lexa is just living her life in her village with her nana, when one day she wanders outside the village boundary. Next thing she knows, a mysterious stranger, who introduces himself as the Princess's champion, appears at her home and demands she come with him. She finds herself suddenly thrown into a world full of magic that she had no idea existed, and is informed by her grumpy grandfather that she is part of a prophecy and must figure out how to fix the veil to drive back the darkness.
The slow burn was almost painful (in the best way!). Lexa and Griff are the ultimate power couple! I love the excerpts from Violet's journal, they really help to create a dual timeline between the previous war and the impending one.
Can't wait for the next book to see how the story develops!
I received a copy of this book as an ARC reader. I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait for the trilogy to finish. I’m sometimes nervous to sign up to ARC read because if I don’t like a book I don’t want to leave a negative review. But this book is worth the stress ❤️ I couldn’t get enough of the Champion and his Princess. I can’t wait to see where their story goes in the future. Lexa was strong to begin with and I liked that about her. She didn’t need a man to fight for her she was a force to be reckoned with on her own. Her Champion just helped her realize her own power. I can’t say enough amazing things about this book. Do yourself a favor and read it!

Starfire's Heir is one of those rare fantasy reads where the world feels lived-in from the very first page. It is vivid in its description, the scenes are beautifully cinematic, but what really pulled me in is that I could actually feel it. I felt the weight of the pressure for Lexa to rise to power and was tortured by Griff's calculated restraint. The supporting characters are just as compelling, each one developed to perfection and adding just the right touch. The slow burn is just what I hoped for, and struck the perfect balance between tension and release. I'm left wanting more...and more, and more.
This is a true slow burn, romantasy with FMC Lexa learning she is the apparent heir to save a kingdom with powers she didn’t know she has, with her champion Griff being a constant as she learns about herself and her destiny. The side characters were also amazing and then tension between Griff and Lexa is SO strong. The book’s ending leaves you dying to learn what will happen next!
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It was very action-packed. Slowburn romanticity. This book had some really good plot. And it really keeps you on your toes. The characters are very likable with strong FMC. I can't wait for the next book thank you to the author for letting me read your story.
What a book. This book had such a new magic system that I fell in love with, discovering all the ways in which to use the different elements as well as mind, body and soul, such a thrill ride. The yearning and tension is definitely there until it all comes together. Definitely worth a read for the weekend!!
Starfire’s Heir is unputdownable! Is that a word? It is now. 🤷🏻♀️ Lexa had me hooked from chapter one, and I could not get enough of the twins! The world building is woven in beautifully, and we get just enough at a time to keep us guessing but not confused. Add this to the top of your TBR asap because you want to be ready when the next one drops!
How can you not love Lexa and Griffin? Lexa’s one of my favorite characters. Megan Phillips has such an amazing creative mind.... you can picture every single detail in your head. The story? Absolutely love it. And that back and forth So good.
I’m probably a little biased because I love a strong female character, and I love strong women. But I love the story. I love the magic. I love the chemistry.
We gotta talk about that ending though... like, WHAT. lol
I sometimes get bored with world building, but this one was perfect. I loved it. I absolutely loved it.
