“And I’m supposed to what…? Pack up my entire life and embrace my princess destiny because some strange man in fine clothes with swords shows up on my doorstep and tells me so?”
✨ Lost heir / chosen one ✨ Slow burn ✨ Hidden magic ✨ Fated mates ✨ Prophecy ✨ Found family
This follows Lexa, who’s been living a quiet farm life until she finds out she’s actually the lost heir to a kingdom on the brink of something much bigger than her.
I really enjoyed the premise here. It has that classic “ordinary girl thrown into destiny” setup, but it still felt engaging and easy to get into.
The magic system was probably my favourite part. It felt fresh and I liked what we were shown of it, I just personally wanted even more time in that space because it was so interesting.
The found family element also added a nice emotional layer and helped balance out all the prophecy and destiny-heavy plot threads.
“You don’t get to decide that for me! You don’t get to decide what risks I will or will not take…People could have died here, today. And if I have the power to help them, I’m going to do it, whether or not you approve of my actions.”
Lexa worked really well for me as a lead. I liked that she pushes back and doesn’t just accept everything straight away, especially when so much is being forced on her at once.
The romance is very slow burn, very tension-filled, and very much in that “we absolutely should not be doing this but here we are” lane.
“He kissed me like I was air and he’d been drowning. Like I was the answer to every prayer he’d never dared speak. Like I was the very reason he was alive.”
It builds into quite an intense emotional connection between them, and once it clicks, it really leans into that classic romantasy pull.
“Here in his arms, I could simply feel. He would give me whatever I needed. No judgement. Nothing but a shoulder to cry on. Warm arms to hold me. Someone to catch every piece of me as I fell apart.”
There were a couple of romance choices (like the miscommunication thread and the brother dynamic) that I didn’t fully connect with personally, but I can see the tension they were trying to build.
“You are mine to hold, mine to cherish, mine to protect… and I am yours. Completely, irrevocably yours.”
Overall, I liked this one a lot for its concept, magic system, and setup. It feels like a really strong foundation for the series, and I’m interested to see where it goes next.
Chaos, vibes, and opinions are all my own ✨ please give credit if you share.
I want to say thank you to Megan Phillips and her team for this opportunity to read this ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is SIX STARS. I just want to be clear about this! I just finished this book and I am emotionally unwell, utterly, completely ruined. I knew by chapter 10 that this book was going to be a 6 star read. The way I was...am obsessed with this book, its be a while. The way I devoured this book but also wanted to savor it was an interesting balance I had. This book was one of those books, that is soooo good that you want to stretch out your time reading it or just at the same time read it all in one sitting.
I have to say it has been a couple of months since a book as tried to devour my soul, but Starfire's Heir did just that. I don't think 6 stars is enough... Lexa was the perfect FMC; snarky, fun, powerful, vulnerable. She is everything you wished you could be. She was written to perfection all the pieces of her. I loved that she didn't grow up in the world she was thrust in and that she was raised away from everything. I love all her growths she went through by everything she was learning and doing. That she was willing to stand for her kingdom even though she wasn't fully in control of her powers yet. I cannot wait to see what happens to her next!
Griffin..., Griff, sigh, He has definitely liked a few book boyfriends down the list and inserted himself near the top. He was written like a dream and I kind of wished I got more of his point of view. He was someone you could trust but also drool over. I love that he was her champion, there to help protect her, guide her, help her through this new world... as well as other things. ;)
All The side characters were wonderful too! They added to the book but not take away from it. or asking for too much. The world building was excellent, it made you feel like you were at home while reading it. The Magic system was also fun and unique and refreshing.
The book is a must read! I Highly recommend!! PREORDER now! out 6/23/26!
The Plot Lexa Andrever’s world is turned upside down when a stranger arrives to take her back to her true realm. Things become even more complicated when she discovers that she is not only a long-lost princess but also part of a prophecy. With her people relying on her to help save their realm, Lexa is suddenly thrust into a world of magic, politics, and destiny.
My Thoughts This was such an enjoyable read! The story is medium- to fast-paced, but it never feels rushed. What impressed me most was the channel-based magic system. Most people have access to three or four channels, and I thought the system was incredibly well crafted in how the different magics would support each other in different ways.
I also absolutely loved the Princess/Champion dynamic. Watching them dance around each other while refusing to fully acknowledge their feelings was both frustrating and addictive in the best possible way. It’s definitely a slow burn, and the tension and yearning had me invested and luckily was very well rewarded!
With the political intrigue, high stakes, and amazing side characters, I devoured this book.
If you enjoy slow-burn romance, unique magic systems, and high-stakes fantasy, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try!
While the story reaches a satisfying stopping point, not everything is resolved, which has left me very excited to see where the series goes next!
This is a fantasy book where you have a lot going on at once. One day, someone comes to tell our MFC that she is a princess and has access to all the magical channels. According to the prophecy, she will be the one who fixes everything. There are a few problems. She notices the writing for this prophet has been altered, she was never told about her magical abilities up until this point, and her body guard is a HUGE distraction.
There are some slow sections in this book but even those add to the overall story. I thought the development between the characters was good. We have a small love triangle thing going on there for a little bit as well. Our MFC's cluelessness felt believable for the background she had. This is one of those books where it ends on a satisfying enough ending but could easily continue in a second book.
As far as triggers go, there are a couple but this was a pretty safe read. There were spicy scenes and they flowed well.
I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
It is so hard to believe that this book is a debut! It truly epitomises the Epic Romantasy genre! It has world building, character development, fated mates, and just the right amount of spice. I was so immersed within the storyline, the world. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!
Lexa, the FMC was exceptionally written. She didn't blindly accept the prophecy thrust upon her, and her sass had her pushing back and questioning, instead of the typical being led into danger as the chosen one trope. Griff, her Champion, just oh my god. New book boyfriend! I loves how he was there for her, to guide her and protect her and teach her. The found family vibes were great, and I really enjoyed the side characters.
Loved the dynamics between Lexa and Griff - the slow-burn, banter and flirting. I loved that you could tell they were fated mates from when they met, and when they admitted their connection, it was perfection.
I wasn't expecting to be so effected by Lexa's backstory, with her past and her family. The emotions definitely got me!! And this was throughout the book, especially THAT SCENE - I wish there was more time! There were also a lot of funny and tender
moments that balanced out the storyline too. The seven channel magic system is an innovative idea, I loved this.
It was a really strong first book for a series, and I can't wait to read more! Thanks Megan for the ARC!
This book was such a surprise for me! I was immediately interested based on some of my favorite romantasy tropes: slow burn, one bed, lost heir, strong FMC, and fated mates.
What I wasn’t expecting was to be so affected by the main character’s story that I found myself crying 😭 and wishing there was more time.
I loved the dynamic between the FMC and MMC, Lexa and Griff, and I’m excited to see how the development of their relationship continues to take shape amidst the trials threatening to devour their world. I cannot wait for the second book!
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This book was incredible! I absolutely loved the story and was completely locked in. The FMC was sassy and a bit badassy, the MMC is this quiet and broody champion that is sworn to protect her. He trains her, and the banter is ban-ter-ing 👏🏻 There’s also a little bit of a love triangle situation that gets awkward, and some really fun side characters. I loved the found family elements so much. I’m not going to lie, there were a few tears shed. But I also laughed a lot too. It was a great mix of funny, sweet, tender, sad, and action-filled moments.
The experience reminded me of how I felt when I started Throne of Glass, which may be partly because there were some similar elements that really caught my attention right out of the gate. I couldn’t stop picking out tog-coded themes and theorizing!
So picture this:
A lost princess, but instead of just being in hiding, she’s taken away from her home as a baby and raised as a commoner with no inkling of her royal heritage or her ties to magic. A prophecy linked to her and her power that’s revealed in riddles and surrounded by secrets. A dark power that infects and eats away at the souls of men.
Things are still very different in this world. The dark power operates in a completely new way. There are no Fae and there is a unique magic system that reminds me of the chakras if they had magical powers 🤣 but there’s definitely some light ToG coding in this book that I absolutely ate up! Highlyyy recommend for fans of TOG.
A few fave quotes:
“Radiant,” he interrupted me softly. “Like watching the sun set with a kaleidoscope of colors splashed across the horizon, the sparkle of the stars appearing in the night sky.”
“I don’t want something from you, Lexa. I want everything from you. I want to be the one you turn to in happiness and in sorrow. The first face you see each morning and the last each night. I want your every heartbeat, your every smile, your every frown. I want to claim your every breath, kiss by kiss. I want you, all of you, forever.”
“When did you become such a possessive asshole?” I asked him. “Less than ten minutes after I met you.”
Starfire’s Heir is exactly the kind of fantasy I love! A classic hero’s journey with a capable heroine, rich worldbuilding, and a romance that actually earns its payoff.
Lexa begins as a farm girl who believes her world is small until she learns she’s the long lost princess of Serentyn, destined to restore a failing Veil protecting her kingdom from darkness. I loved watching her slowly piece together who she is instead of instantly becoming an all powerful chosen one.
The worldbuilding was one of my favorite parts. The seven channel magic system felt unique without becoming overwhelming, and I especially enjoyed the ancient prophecy, the hidden kingdom, the castle library, and the shrine housing the prophecy book. Those scenes gave the story a magical, almost mythical atmosphere.
The romance is a true slow burn between Lexa and her sworn protector, Griffin. Their relationship develops naturally through training, trust, and shared responsibility rather than instant attraction. The sword training scenes were some of my favorites especially the flirtatious sparring that had me smiling.
Lexa is also the kind of heroine I always enjoy reading. She’s compassionate but never weak, willing to question the prophecy while still accepting responsibility for the people depending on her. Watching her discover each of her seven magical channels and eventually wield a sword of fire was incredibly satisfying.
The pacing steadily builds, but the final hundred pages absolutely flew by. The suspense ramps up, long standing mysteries begin falling into place, and the ending left me immediately wanting book two.
If you enjoy:
* Long lost princesses * Hero’s journey fantasy * True slow burn romance * Fated destiny * Found family * Magic training * Ancient prophecies * Castle libraries * Powerful heroines * Elemental magic * Cliffhanger endings
Finished up my ARC for Starfire’s Heir by Megan Phillips and WOW!!!!! Completely blown away by this story and what a debut!!!!! We’ve got such a delicious slow burn with banter, YEARNING, one bed, and a really awesome magic system. This book made me laugh, cry just a little (It was the “Hey kiddo” that got me), bite my nails because of everything at stake, plus a bunch of other things. I also absolutely adored the characters!!!
Lexa (Lily) our FMC, finds out she’s the lost princess to a kingdom under attack from the darkness, controlled by an unknown entity, that is trying to fully destroy everything in its path. Oh and she’s the chosen one who is supposed to save them all. No pressure of course! She’s wildly talented, clever, and snarky while also having such compassion for those around her. Then we have Griffin, our MMC, who brings Lexa home and is her Champion. Like Lexa, he’s also so incredibly talented and strong even though he is quite broody at first. He cares so deeply for Lexa and his family. He’s also pretty smooth when he wants to be heheh.
The slowburn between Lexa and Griff was tantalizing. And I love me some yearning. The stolen glances, little gestures and touches here and there made that moment where they both finally admitted their connected and feelings for each other so satisfying. Here’s the thing- they are also fated mates and are drawn to each other— even their souls yearn!! I thought it was funny that Griff spent most of the book down so bad and that filter goes away real fast.
I’m so curious about Griff’s twin, Finn though. I feel like something is coming in book 2 and I’m a lil anxious looool. I am extremely excited to see what happens next though, especially with the ending to book 1!
Thank you so much for having me as an ARC reader!!!
Wow what an amazing debut from Megan. This book had everything a romantasy reader could ask for. The pacing was great, giving me enough to understand the current situation whilst keeping an underlying mystery that made me want to keep turning the pages.
I love a good prophecy story, especially when it comes to a lost princess. Lexa was amazing. She was such a fun character to read and seeing her growth as the story progressed made me feel like she deserves the best of the best and I loved her even more. She was so snarky and strong, yet also wasn't afraid to show her vulnerability when needed and I loved that she was able to accept all parts of her (although she's still learning of course).
So, Griff...GRIFF. I loved so many things about him! First off, you don't see many golden retriever MMCs in romantasy yet somehow Megan made him fit so perfectly into this world. I never once doubted his intentions, and I was 100% swooning over this character. I loved that Griff grounded Lexa, he was her pillar of survival, her trainer, protector and lover. I was so smitten with him, the amount of yearning and tension that emanated from this character was killer. I was rooting for Lexa and Griff from the very beginning - no questions asked.
I felt so many emotions as a reader; once I began this book, barely 10 chapters in, I already felt like this world was my home and the characters I'd met were people I would care for deeply. There was so much love, caring, and nurture woven into this story. This was such a cosy read, and I cannot recommend it enough. Do keep in mind, this is Book 1 of a Trilogy so expect the unexpected.
Thank you Megan for this amazing journey and read!
This book surprised in the best way possible, I’m gonna start by saying that I loved every single trope that this book was written about; this slow burn was a little bit too slow for me. I was desperate for a kiss or any sign of affection between the two characters, but honestly, it was all worth it when they got together at last.
I wanna praise the way it’s written, it’s hard to believe this is a debut novel; I think my favorite part about the way it was written was the way magic work in this universe, I feel like it’s something new and unheard of, and it was very fun to read and learn about the way magic revolves around in this world and how our main hero (Lexa) discovered it and learned from it the same way us readers got to do it.
I especially loved the dynamic between Lexa and Griff; I love the way you could tell they were soulmates from the start and how the relationship developed as the pages went by. I really really loved how protective Griff was about Lexa but also how he wanted her to learn and grow on her own, like he wanted her to be a hero, she was meant to be, but also taking care of his love. And let me just say I loooved Finn as a character.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot, I’m very grateful to the author for allowing me to read this as an advanced reader, it was such a journey, and I can’t wait for the rest of the ride.
I am officially obsessed with the Soul of Serentyn Trilogy and I NEED book two IMMEDIATELY!! Megan Phillips absolutely kills it with her debut novel, Starfire’s Heir. Every character’s action and emotion is intentional. The world-building is purposeful and does not take away from the plot. The sass written into Lexa’s character was phenomenal. I found myself giggling and saying “can relate” especially when she was addressing her grandfather(iykyk). That slow burn will have you turning the pages like a fiend on a mission. And let’s take a moment to appreciate and WORSHIP Griff. He is everything you could dream of in a man, which will leave you asking if he has a brother- and this time the answer is YES, my friends. We get an FMC who is fierce, loyal, and learns so much more about herself, what she is capable of, and what she is meant to do. Lexa’s character progression was 🔥 and I could not stop rooting for her! My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I am fully invested in The Soul of Serentyn trilogy and cannot wait for book two!
I will forever be summoned by Griff 😮💨 “I will always find you.”
Tropes you can expect:
❤️🔥 Slow Burn 🧵 Fated Mates 🗡️ Romantasy 🔮 Prophecies 👑 Long Lost Princess
Thank you so much to Megan Phillips for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This one had so much potential, and overall I had a good time with it!
The magic system was probably my favorite part. It kept me interested from the beginning, and I really enjoyed learning more about the world as the story unfolded.
The romance was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Once the main characters finally got together, I absolutely loved them. Their chemistry, their bond, and seeing them as a couple made me so happy. The only downside was that it took a long time to get there. For most of the book, their relationship felt very on-and-off, with both of them clearly wanting each other but refusing to admit their feelings. It started to feel repetitive after a while, and I found myself wanting their relationship (and the story) to move forward.
That was probably my biggest struggle overall. There were moments where I was completely hooked, but then the pacing would slow down and it felt like the plot wasn’t making much progress. The FMC has a clear goal from the beginning, but at times it felt like she was going in circles instead of getting closer to solving it.
That being said, the last part of the book definitely picked things up for me. I enjoyed where the story ended, and it left me curious enough that I’ll probably continue with the next book to see where everything goes.
If you enjoy romantasy with an interesting magic system, fated mates, slow-burn romance, and plenty of tension, this one might be worth checking out!
Thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this book! All my opinions and thoughts are my honest and genuine ones!
First of wow just wow! What a book and what a journey!! I absolutely loved this book! It’s so well written! It flows nicely, the worldbuilding is very descriptive and easy to understand and the characters are just a chef’s kiss👌🏻 I never wanted this book to end, that’s how good it was!😫🙌🏻 I loved Lexa, our FMC, and how she is snarky and fierce but also kind, thoughtful and caring. And Griff, our MMC, where do I begin?🤭 he’s not just sexy and badass, he’s also kind, protective and a golden retriever on the inside🥹 yes he’s maybe a bit overbearing and overprotective sometimes buuut he’s fricking awesome and show up for those he care about, so I don’t care about that😌 I really like the side characters too! They add nicely to the story but doesn’t take over. I also liked and enjoyed the magic system and how it worked. It was an interesting journey to follow Lexa in discovering her powers and her new world.
4⭐️ - such a good time, felt like a really long movie.
This book follows our FMC who lives a pretty low key life until one day she ventures beyond the wall she’s been told never to go beyond, which set off a chain of events of her finding out she’s a missing princess and the key to a prophecy that’s now being set in motion.
The beginning of the story was super fast paced and we met our MMC very quickly. Our FMC is thrust into this new world full of magic and prophecies. I loved how strong she got through out the book and really liked her character. Our MMC was very interesting to get to know, I really liked Griff and his grumpy attitude.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about Finn and the dynamics surrounding that situation, but I’m hoping it gets resolved in the next book. I thought the magic and the plot line was very unique. I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
🖤Slow Burn 🔥Found Family 🖤Fated Mates 🔥Long Lost Princess 🖤Fierce FMC 🔥Prophecies 🖤One Bed 🔥Sword Wielding FMC
Thank you Megan Phillips for the opportunity to read Starfire’s Heir in exchange for an honest review.
To say that I can’t wait for book two is an understatement! I absolutely loved this book! With familiar tropes throughout the book, Megan created a unique magic system, lovable characters, and a great story!
Lexa is a strong and likable FMC! Loved her growth throughout the story and how it actually took time to master her skills!
One of my favorite moments: I absolutely loved how Lexa handled her interaction with Aine and how she handled her interaction with Griff when he found out what had happened.
Hopes for book two: • Rose and Cormac’s journey • Several celebrations…iykyk • A nicer and grateful Zachariah
*I received an ARC Copy in exchange for my honest review!*
OH. MY. GOD. This book is AMAZING. Lexa is such a badass and yet also has her weak moments and I love that. Griff is perfection and that’s all I have to say about him. Haha! I loved the uniqueness of the magic system and the plot was able to keep itself in its own league while also having some of those typical themes you see in Romantasy lately. I will now be impatiently waiting for book 2. 🫠
I loved it. I love lexa and Griffin. I also loved the writing. I loved the cliffhanger at the end. I loved how we get flashbacks of Violet’s POV of the past. This was my favorite part. I also loved learning about Lexa’s family. I loved Griffin and their romance. I loved the steamy scene towards the end of the novel. I also loved the battle scene at the end. I loved the magic system and finding out about the heir. Overall, a great book. I want to thank the author for letting me read the earc early and for accepting me on the street team.
📖 Quick Premise Lexa was living a normal, quiet life with her grandmother until one day, a handsome stranger shows up on her doorstep saying she needs to come home. Not only is she a long lost princess from a land where magic exists, she’s also prophesied to be the savior of the realm. All she has to do is learn years worth of information in a limited time while navigating her feelings for her new love interest. No pressure, right?
💭 Thoughts I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would! When I saw it was another “lost heir with magical powers destined to save the realm” story, I was like okay…. I’ve read enough of these. They’re all the same. But this one was so good!! I was locked in the entire time. There is just so much to unpack here. The pacing was steady. The writing flowed well and was easy to read.
👥 Characters This story had lots of likeable characters with a variety of personalities. Our FMC, Lexa, is a strong FMC. She’s very relatable, resilient, handling the situation of being thrown into a new realm very well. She’s adaptable, selfless, brave, and passionate. Sometimes I felt like there were some character inconsistencies throughout. At times she was very level headed and realistic, then other times she was arrogant and impulsive, which did not line up. Our MMC, Griffin, is a broody warrior tasked to protect the princess. I typically don’t like a broody MMC but I liked him. He wasn’t overly broody, and we get to see his softer side a few times. I felt like he had a reason for being broody, rather than just being written that way because he’s the MMC and that’s what you do. I loved his brother Finn so much! The side characters in this story really added to the plot and gave the book a lot more depth.
🌎 Worldbuilding & Magic There was a decent amount of world building in this one, which I enjoyed. I did not find it too dense or distracting from the plot. The magic system was so unique! The way they have channels, different elements, and the way it all worked together and why it worked was so cool! It wasn’t just your typical shadow magic or plain elemental magic, even though there were elements. I found it interesting. The only thing I was skeptical on was how quickly our FMC learns how to wield her magic. It felt like there was no learning curve at all. For someone who didn’t even know magic existed her entire life, I found this a little unrealistic.
❤️🔥Romance There is A LOT of tension and yearning in this book. However, it is not a slow burn, in my opinion. Usually I prefer a slow burn, but this was done in a way that made it feel like one because of how much time passes. On top of that, the fated mate trope makes me more lenient when things move quickly because I attribute that to the match. I really enjoyed the romance between the two MC’s. Some of Lexa’s inner dialogue about it did get a little repetitive, but it’s not enough to take away from it for me personally.
✔️ Final Thoughts I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, especially considering it’s the author’s debut! So kudos to her for having a great first book. I was hooked from the very first page and stayed up way to late reading it. I fully intend to continue the series! If you’re looking for a story that is action packed, equal parts romance to plot, has a bit of a mystery to it, has magical and physical training, lovable side characters, and and ending that will leave you wanting the next book immediately, then this one is for you!

What to expect: Slow burn • found family • fates mates • long lost princess • hidden magic • prophecies • sword wielding FMC •
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
Ok where to start, firstly I have been emotionally destroyed by this book. I haven't cried this much over a book in the longest time. I was attached to these characters and the journey they went on ❤️
We follow our FMC Lexa Andrever, she lived a quiet life on her Nana's farm. She has always been told to 'stay in the village. But she felt pulled to cross the stone boundary of the village. So, she crosses and something changes within her and she knows she will never be the same again.
I loved Lexa, she is fierce and stubborn and one of those characters that would do everything they could to help others. Her sassy inner monologue was great.
"My name is Lexa Andrever. I will not break!."
Our MMC Griffin Narvene, this man turns up at the cottage and announces he's there to take her home. Turns out Lexa is actually a Princess from a Kingdom called Serentyn, her nana had taken her from there when she was young to protect her.
I love Griff's character, he is broody and protective. He is Lexa's Champion, his job is to protect her at all costs, and this man takes his job very seriously. The bond that these two share is very special.
From there everything changes for Lexa, she no longer has a quiet life on the farm she's thrust into a new place with unfamiliar faces, magic and the weight of a prophecy about her to defeat the darkness and restore balance to the world.
I really enjoyed the magic system in this book. The magic is accessed by channels. There are 7 different channels, that each have their own colour. Everyone who lives under the veil has access to the channels, but most can only access few of them.
The world building in this book was phenomenal. I could picture everything so clearly. So beautifully written and descriptive.
The tension and yearning in this book was epic! It's a sloooww burn. 🔥🔥 The buildup was fantastic 👏🏽 You could feel it all. The emotional battles they were both fighting internally.
"My brave, stubborn, beautiful princess. I love you so much it terrifies me."
"I love you, Griffin Narvene. Completely. Desperately. Forever."
There are some fantastic side characters in this book, Finn (Griff's twin brother) was a standout for me. His banter was fantastic. I loved how easily he could wind his brother up. And he always knew how to lighten the mood.
I cried so much in this book, it was so emotional. I'm so attached to these characters its crazy. 😭😭
The plot was great, pacing was great, had some big action scenes with high stakes. There was a scene at the end, that had me stressed and on the edge of my seat with tears streaming down my face.
The found family trope added such an emotional element to this book. And I really enjoyed that.
The ending didn't leave on a 'cliffhanger' more left us with some questions and a new direction for the characters in the next book. I think that was a perfect way to end this part of their story.
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to the Author for sending me an arc of your book. 🩷
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Starfire’s Heir has everything I look for in a romantasy: forced proximity, a unique magic system, found family, one bed, a lost princess and her champion, and one of the slowest burns I’ve read in a long time. And when I say slow burn, I mean slow burn. We’re talking about 75% of the book worth of tension, yearning, and stolen moments.
The story follows Lexa, who has spent her life living quietly in a village with her grandmother. Everything changes when a warrior arrives and turns her world upside down. Suddenly, she finds herself in a castle full of strangers, training every day, trying to understand her magic, and learning what it means to save a kingdom that may depend on her.
Lexa was easy to root for. I loved watching her grow into her power and find her place among people who eventually become family.
But let’s talk about Griff.
Griff is the kind of book boyfriend who doesn’t just say “I love you.” He yearns. He hides behind a mask for much of the story, trying desperately to conceal his feelings for his princess, but his devotion shines through in every interaction.
When he says things like:
“You are mine to hold, mine to cherish, mine to protect….And I am yours. Completely, irrevocably yours.”
and
“I don’t want something from you, Lexa. I want everything from you. I want to be the one you turn to in happiness and in sorrow. The first face you see each morning and the last each night. I want your every heartbeat, your every smile, your every frown. I want to claim your every breath, kiss by kiss. I want you, all of you, forever.”
How was I supposed to recover from that?
The side characters were wonderful as well. Freya immediately became one of my favorites. An all-knowing healer and childhood friend? Instant win. Finn and the rest of the found family dynamic added so much heart to the story. Although I will admit that Finn’s romantic development caught me completely off guard—I genuinely did not see it coming.
The worldbuilding and magic system felt fresh and intriguing, and Megan Phillips does a fantastic job laying the groundwork for what feels like a much larger story to come.
The only reason this wasn’t a 5-star read for me is because I personally prefer a bit more action in my romantasy. This book spends a lot of time building relationships, character growth, and emotional connections, which worked well for the story, but I found myself wanting a little more action throughout. That said, it feels very much like the first book in a series, and I have a feeling the payoff is coming.
Overall, Starfire’s Heir is a fantastic debut and a must-read for romantasy lovers who enjoy: ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Found family ✨ One bed ✨ A masked, devoted hero ✨ Lots of yearning ✨ Slow-burn romance ✨ Unique magic systems ✨ A princess and her champion
I can’t wait to see what’s next for Lexa and Griff. Thank you Megan for the Advance Reader Copy:)
Thank you to Megan Phillips for an eARC of this book for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow! What a way to make a debut!
Lexa's story is interesting. I liked the way she had to learn all the ins and outs, and while she complained a bit because certain people *cough* Zachariah *cough* treated her, she still realized she wanted to help. I will say that sometimes it felt like she was able to master everything super easy, until it was appropriate(?) that she didn't or that her not quite making it was important, but still. It was also interesting seeing all the connections she started making, especially as she started reading more of Violet's journal. I did roll my eyes a little at her constant back and forth regarding Griff. Granted, he didn't help, but still. I did like the way she handled Aine at the ball, although why she couldn't keep up that attitude every time she saw her, I'll never know. I was excited once she finally told Griff how she felt.
Griff was honestly amazing. Yes, he was hot and cold and I did roll my eyes at him too, but once he explained things, I rolled my eyes a little less. He was a protective pain in the ass, but it was honestly hilarious because he even acknowledged that he knew Lexa wouldn't like it, but he was going to do it anyway. I did find myself laughing at all the ways he managed to see through her various attempts at sneaking away. I loved the fact that he started showing Lexa the little parts of himself he kept locked down, because even though he was trying so hard to let her come to realizations and choices on her own, he was gone from her from the word go. I liked his relationship with Finn and Freya and the way he told off Zachariah.
The pieces of Violet's journal that we got at the start of every chapter were interesting and I liked the way they told their own story. I'd be curious to see more of her and Wraith because with all the "you'll have your moment" talk, it feels like there's more at play!
The magic system is intriguing. I liked how people all have their own channels and what you can do can depend on how much of an affinity you have for said channel. It was also interesting how Lexa would see things as different colors.
Overall, the pace of the book was interesting. It kind of felt like there was a lot of not-quite-nothing happening in the beginning. We spent a lot of that time with Lexa getting her world thrown upside down and then half moaning about everything, but then all of a sudden the story picked up speed and honestly I think the only reason I didn't finish earlier is that I was visiting family and was distracted by the dorky dog. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
Summary: Lexa is our long lost princess FMC, who grew up in a small village until a handsome man enters the village and changes everything she knows. Lexa is supposedly destined to not only rule the kingdom, but to save it, but first she must master her inner magic.
Spoiler free review: The plot and the premise is nothing new, it is your typical slow-burn romantasy with a brooding MMC and a FMC who is destined to save the world. HOWEVER, the execution? *chef’s kiss* I was hooked from the beginning, the world was so well developed i could picture every scene in my mind, but we were also not overexposed or got info dumped, we learned slowly with Lexa. The slow burn was actually SLOW, giving time for the characters to grow and get to know each other, and I love that! There was however, a bit of a slow point in the middle were her training arc got a bit repetitive, but since it gave us more character interactions I honestly didn’t mind it too much.
Plot: The Hufen, the unknown enemy making people into shadow slaves basically was super interesting, I honestly can’t wait for book 2 to know more! I feel like we sometimes focused a bit too much on the bond between the FMC and MMC, especially during the last third of the book, and not the actual plot of what was happening around them. But since this is a romantasy I guess I can’t complain too much
Characters: Lexa is stubborn and strong, but also second guesses herself, on the surface she sounds like every other badass FMC, but I must say I really liked her, I rooted for her, she is a complicated and likeable main character. The same goes for the MMC Griff, I enjoyed their banter and their funny moments! The side characters were also very fleshed out, Andrei and of course Finn being my faves, overall a very likeable crew of characters!
Rating: 4 Stars! I think the next book could easily be a 5 star, it was so close to being perfect in my eyes! That is to say while I love some good romance, I skip spice and kinda cringe when the main characters keep talking about and doing spicy stuff right at the important moments in the story, it kinda takes me out. BUT, if you love that kind of thing you will LOVE this book!
Huge thanks to Megan for providing me with an ARC of this book!
This is exactly the kind of romantasy I love: a lost princess, a broody champion, found family, forced proximity, one bed, incredible banter, and a painfully good slow burn.
Lexa's quiet life is shattered when she learns she's the long-lost heir to a kingdom in need of saving. Thrust into a world of magic, prophecy, political tension, and danger, she must learn to master her powers while navigating a destiny she never asked for.
The standout for me was the magic system. The concept of the seven channels and the connection between body, soul, and nature felt fresh, unique, and unlike anything I've read before. I loved discovering the world alongside Lexa as she learned to harness her abilities.
Lexa was a fantastic FMC—strong, determined, and never afraid to challenge the people around her. And Griff? Absolutely top-tier book boyfriend material. Protective without being overbearing, fiercely loyal, and full of quiet devotion. The chemistry between him and Lexa was undeniable, and the slow burn delivered every bit of tension, yearning, and emotional payoff I could have wanted.
The found family brought so much heart to the story, with Finn and Freya quickly becoming favorites.
Overall, this is a great romantasy with a unique magic system, unforgettable characters, and a slow-burn romance that kept me hooked until the very last page. I can't wait for book two.

TOG meets Princess Diaries…yes please! What an incredible read, with a unique magic system, and a heroine faced with an impossible task. This incredible novel is full of adventure that sweeps you away in a world that you never want to leave. The prologue sets the story up perfectly, inviting readers to a fresh, unique, exhilarating experience. While the story is slow to build up, once it does, you will be on the edge of your seat.
Lexa is a heroine that will not be ignored. I love her fire (magic and attitude), and even more her courage and determination. She’s faced with a daunting prophecy with no direction, but she doesn’t let that stop her from taking on her new role as a ruler and protector of her people. I love how she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, nor is she afraid to follow her instincts. It’s refreshing to have a character that steers away from the “woe is me” attitude. She’s a great example of a humble hero, and I can’t wait to read more of her journey.
Is Griff my new book boyfriend?…. Without a doubt, he is my favorite character in this book. Blonde MMC’s are coming back (forget about Tamlin, and Griff brings passion, fierceness, and all the angst that a reader could as for. I do love the slow progression of Griff and Lexa’s relationship, from champion and princess to utter devotion towards one another.
As much as I love Griff, his twin Finn is a character I can’t stop thinking about. The dynamic between brothers was my favorite part of the book. The found family in this book was so memorable, with loveable characters that enhance the story. Andrei, Kaia, Everly, and Freya were the heart of the story especially in the midst of danger and growing darkness.
I loved the magic system in this book, it sets itself apart from other romantasy worlds, and easy to understand (especially for those who are near to this genre). The plot development was great, building the tension and giving readers jaw dropping reveals. I loved this book from the first to last page, and I’m marking my calendar for when book 2 comes out. This is an unforgettable book that will leave you breathless, readers beware, this will be your next obsession. Thank you for the chance to let me arc read!
“For anyone who’s ever read for an escape, to lose themselves in a world of adventure and magic.”
That dedication told me everything I needed to know.
Starfire’s Heir swept me away into a world of ancient magic, hidden truths, dangerous shadows, and a heroine who is forced to discover who she truly is.
Lexa has spent her life hidden away, unaware of her heritage, her power, or the sacrifices that were made to protect her. When she’s drawn beyond the safety of her village, everything changes. Suddenly she’s thrust into a realm she barely understands, surrounded by people who seem to know far more about her destiny than she does.
What truly made this story shine for me was the found family. Watching Lexa build friendships, find mentors, and create bonds with the people around her gave the story so much warmth and heart. As she learns to navigate her new reality, she discovers that family isn’t always about blood—it’s about the people who choose to stand beside you.
While the darkness haunted Lexa’s dreams, Griff became her safe harbor, quietly standing between her and the shadows long before either of them was ready to admit what was growing between them.
This is a true slow burn. The kind that has you yelling at the pages because the connection is so obvious, yet both characters keep dancing around it. The dreams, the quiet moments, the protection, the shared secrets, the Winter Solstice dance that had everyone watching… every interaction built the tension beautifully.
I also loved the mystery woven throughout the story. Why was Lexa hidden away? Why wasn’t she trained? What really happened to her parents? And what is lurking behind the dreams that continue to haunt her?
By the end, I was completely invested in Lexa’s journey, her magic, her relationships, and the fate of the realm. The answers we receive are satisfying, but there are still enough questions left to make me desperate for book two.
If you love romantasy with found family, hidden royalty, magical training, fated mates, dangerous dreams, and a slow burn that will test your patience in the best possible way, Starfire’s Heir is well worth the journey.
4.75 star rating rounded to 5 1 chili pepper spice rating
Hello?? First off, I would just like to thank Megan for accepting me to be an ARC reader for this. I am choosing to leave a review.
Honestly, this read was such a pleasant surprise. I had some eh reads the past week and was so worried I was either in a slump or I wouldn't enjoy this. Absolutely not the case here! Let me start out by saying that this was almost looking like a 5 star read for me. I picked this up and devoured all 618 (amount of arc pages) in just 3 days. I was laughing, crying, pissed off and genuinely wanted to punch some characters (I'm looking at you grandpa). My little gears were turning trying to help the FMC Lexa figure out this damn prophecy. Overall it was a great time. Now the reason I ended up giving it a 4.75? The slow burn honestly killed me. I love my slow burns don't get me wrong, BUT we are dealing with a fated mates sitch here and I was fuming by 450 pages when the actual on page smooch WAS NOT HER MATE.. that's it. That specific scene made me so mad I gave it a 4.75 LMAO BUT I loved everything else. Every Single Thing!
This book gave me Dire Bound vibes (lost princess, fated mates, FCKN SLOW BURN) but it was a masterpiece all on its own. We end on a little cliffhanger, nothing crazy, and honestly so glad because I do not know how I would be feeling waiting for the next book if it didn't go the way it did lol.
Quotes: "You were never a duty, Lexa. Never an obligation. You are the very reason I draw breath, the other half of my soul."
"The possessiveness should have irritated me. Except, for some reason, it felt like an anchor, tethering me to a safe harbor."
"I don't want something from you, Lexa. I want everything from you. I want to be the one you turn to in happiness and in sorrow. The first face you see each morning and the last each night. I want your every heartbeat, your every smile, your every frown. I want to claim your every breath, kiss by kiss. I want you, all of you, forever."
Tropes: lost princess x guard fated mates unique magic systems prophecies one bed sloooooooow burn feisty fmc protective mmc found family hidden secrets
If you're new to the romantasy genre, or just fantasy itself, then this is the type of book that I think is a really good way to be introduced to it, and honestly, I can see why a lot of people do enjoy this book and have rated it so high. Just for me, it relies too heavily on familiar tropes. There was a little bit of repetition right at the start, our FMC being told the same information and acting as if it was the first time she heard it, and the pacing just didn't work for me personally.
We ended up dealing with a lot of the same things, in different ways, especially Lexa being told no, and her pushing until Griff eventually relented, but not without the same small argument, about how he couldn't keep her locked up. It just really slowed down the pace, and this book was thick.
I can almost forgive Lexa for being the way she was, because her whole life has been turned upside down, but honestly I didn't love her as much as I wanted to, and she was also great, at everything, even with no, or very little training, there were many times people mentioned how, no one else can do this, and it takes people years to master what she's done in sometimes a matter of hours. Which, I get, and this is more of a personal preference, because for some it wouldn't bother them, but I just LOVE when a character struggles, when they aren't perfect. It also, to some extent, works because it is the story; she's the destined one, but again, I just love more of a struggle.
There are some parts of this book that I utterly love though. Griff,, for one, he is, as a book boyfriend, top tier, his twin brother, Finn, oh, he has my heart. The side characters are great, even the ones that I want to throttle, and the backstory happening in the past is something that I wanted desperately more of. There's a scene towards the end of the book, several really, that just melted my heart, and made me feel so much for Lexa, and that ending was honestly pretty epic.
So yea, it's a bit of a mixed bag for me, I really wanted to love it, and I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would.
✨⭐️ **Book Review: Starfire’s Heir by Megan Phillips** ⭐️✨
**5/5 Stars**
*Starfire’s Heir* by Megan Phillips was absolutely magnificent. This book took me on an emotional journey from start to finish. I laughed, cried, gasped, and constantly found myself questioning everything I thought I knew.
Our FMC, Lexa, has spent her entire life in a small village under the care of her Nana, with one strict rule: never leave the village. Of course, curiosity gets the better of her, and one decision changes her life forever. Venturing beyond the village leads to a chance encounter with Griff, our MMC, and the beginning of an unforgettable adventure.
As the story unfolds, Lexa discovers she is the long-lost princess of her world, while Griff serves as her Champion. I loved watching her navigate the overwhelming reality of going from an ordinary village girl to a princess burdened with a prophecy destined to save her world. Honestly, I'd be freaking out too!
One of my favorite aspects of this book was the magic system. Magic is controlled through "channels," with most people having access to only two or three. However, a rare few can access all seven channels, opening up incredible possibilities. The system felt unique, well-developed, and added so much depth to the world.
The slow-burn romance was perfection. The tension between Lexa and Griff kept me fully invested, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. Combined with the mystery surrounding the prophecy, the story was impossible to put down.
The plot, the characters, the world-building, the magic, the romance—everything came together beautifully. While the ending leaves readers with a small cliffhanger, it wasn't devastating; it simply left me desperate to get my hands on Book 2.
If you're looking for an epic fantasy filled with magic, prophecy, adventure, and a swoon-worthy slow burn, *Starfire’s Heir* deserves a spot on your TBR.
