I really like the language used in this nook. Easy to read and the description of each scenes and thoughts of each characters are well written. The only problem I have with this book was that the ending was underwhelming. So it is not a huge syndicate that was behind that, and even the FBI was unable to figure that one out, only Emily and Mike because the plot says so.

I mean I was waiting for a politician or a business person to be behind the death of Cash especially it involves millions of dollars but alas it is just a random woman April Haynes and her husband who was able to break through the bank without the bank noticing him stealing that big amount of money. I mean, how can that be? Haynes is not a tech only a person who oversee right? Why did the management did not look into him? And why all the tracing or diagram thing about Connectiva, Sophia Liang, the construction and the bank? When the enemy is not part of them rather was an icing on the top.

Maybe the Haynes owned something but it did not stick to me. All I know how shallow April revenge story was particularly it was because Cash ignored her in college year and went towards Emily as she cant get Cash. She even kidnapped another girl the pianist? I forgot her name as there is no foreshadowing that there was a case like that before.

I was underwhelmed by the ending. I think the ending would be good if the Connectiva, Sophia Liang and so on controversy would continue in this book series. But since this is only my first book from the author I do not know yet.

I also find the death of Mason, Manson? I forgot the name of the previous FBI agent who live near Mike unnecessary. I mean, April did theatrics when confronted by Emily but all the action before hand was done to hide who is behind it all. I mean, isn’t that ironic?

I also find Mike and his abilities unbelievable. I mean who could have able to access FBI database without alarming their data breach firewall or something. I know this is fiction but his skills are unbelievable. Let alone he only did this to himself.

In conclusion, i think this book is a missed potential. The story and the twist can go deeper than what was written. I mean, since I teach literature in college, I know that movie directors and authors have control on what they could put in their films and book. They have control on everything hence any story left unexplained would be their fault. It is a sign of bad directing or writing. The case of Sophia Liang. April Haynes and so on are good example of bad writing. All of the hiding and mystery gone to waste.

A Silent Witness by KJ Kalis
A Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller Book Eight
Emily Tizzano had worked for the Chicago PD as a detective. Until she was falsely arrested. Now…she settles justice for those who can’t. She’s no longer bound by the law she was under as a detective.
Mike, her tech guy, is quite savvy and a big help, especially on this assignment. Someone has been murdered who is close to Emily. She lets very few people get close. Add to that, someone is trying to frame Emily for the murder. She has to learn to set her grief aside to focus on finding a murderer.
Emily tries not to depend on her former father-in-law, who is also the head of a mafia family, but it does come in handy when she gets in a pinch.
Page-turning suspense and challenging emotionally…for both Emily and me…but as always, an exciting, emotional read.

First, I like how K.J. Kalis writes, I lose myself in her books. I have read the entire series with this latest one. Emily is a complicated person with good friends. She took a bad situation, that still haunts her, and turned it into a positive by helping otheres. She is independent but know she has backup. This was written well to keep the suspense going and really gives no hints as to where it is going until about 80-85% through...then just a hint.
I enjoy the relationships that the author has set up. Equipment used is not too far out of reality. Situations may seem extreme but she goes against some pretty bad people.
Highly recommend this series. You can read in any order but I think there is benefit to reading starting with the first story.
