She was my best friend’s daughter. I ran into the fire for her once. Now she’s runnin’ straight into me.

Five years ago, I pulled Fawnie out of a burning house.
Didn’t think. Didn’t hesitate. Just walked into the flames because her father asked me to watch over her.

She made it out untouched.
I didn’t.

The fire carved its mark into my skin.
Life finished the job.

Scars change how people look at you.
My own blood called me a monster.
So I left. Came to Hart. Buried the past—and the fact that I once saved the daughter of the only man I ever called family.

I never wanted thanks.
Never wanted her to know.

Then she finds out.

Now she’s standing in front of me, lookin’ at me like I’m still some kind of hero.

She doesn’t see the anger.
The damage.
The beast I’ve become.

She thinks I saved her life.

What she doesn’t know?

She’s about to drag me back from the dark.

And this time…
I don’t know if I’m strong enough to let her.

Shadow is the 12th installment in the Satan's Angels MC series. Each book in the series delivers a standalone happily ever after for the couple, but for the best experience, we recommend reading them in order.

Shadow and Fawnie

I loved how Fawnie brought Shadow back to the land of the living especially since he was the one who had saved her from a fire. Shadow was damaged before that but Fawnie is the only one who break through to him. I loved the chemistry of this couple and this book was a big page turner for me and I’ve fallen for this series. I can’t wait to see what this author has coming next.

Shadow had a strong foundation, but the execution did not work for me.

The blurb leans hard into best friends daughter taboo, but Shadow is not best friends with her dad. He is five years older than Fawnie, and the story would be more accurately described as found family.

From Shadow’s perspective, I could absolutely see the appeal. His trauma runs deep, from the fire that scarred him to wounds carried long before the flames ever touched him. I appreciated that his struggles are not magically fixed. He is angry, damaged, self-aware, and at times a complete jerk. His pain had weight and gave the story a solid emotional base, and I can see why readers who love wounded, self-loathing MC heroes would connect with him.

Where this fell apart for me was Fawnie. Once she decides that she is the one to fix Shadow, her sense of entitlement begins to drive the story. She repeatedly overrides his boundaries, convinced she knows what is best for him. She even goes so far as to hide outside his house for hours, waiting for him to appear so she can ambush him, fully admitting that she is crossing a line. She repeatedly promises to respect his limits, only to break her word and push past them anyway. Since most of the emotional growth happens on Shadow’s side, the dynamic felt unbalanced, with her remaining largely the same while he is the only one opening up and changing.

I only truly felt their connection through Shadow. Every time I started warming to Fawnie because of how he saw her, her POV would pull me back out. Fawnie’s chapters often rehashed everything with the added lens of her almost always “knowing” what he was going through and needing. By the end, I accepted them together because it is what Shadow wanted and he deserved a HEA.

3 stars (★★★☆☆) because Shadow himself is compelling, though honestly it feels closer to 2.5 and more along the lines of “I didn’t like it” because of Fawnie.

Ratings Explained:

★☆☆☆☆ – This book wasn’t for me
★★☆☆☆ – I didn’t like it
★★★☆☆ – It was okay
★★★★☆ – I liked it
★★★★★ – I loved it.

Shadow & Fawnie’s story was an emotional turmoil!

Another amazing addition to the series I couldn’t get enough of! This series causes emotional carnage with every single book, I swear. Amazing plot, focusing on feelings, self-evolvement, recognition, acceptance, brotherhood and so, so much more. This book is no exception and I loved every single line. Shadow (aka Finn) and Fawnie were amazing MCs. Shadow is damaged. Physically and emotionally, after a fire a few years back left scars. Scars that matched his internal ones. He threw himself into the flames to rescue a girl – and a cat. The girl is none other than Fawnie, who years later still tries to find out her rescuer and thank him. But things get even more complicated when Fawnie comes back to find her father, Preacher, who is a former preacher and current member of Satan’s Angels MC and who her mother kept away from her the majority of her life. He and Shadow share a past – they are currently MC brothers and, while everything unfolds, he is there to support his daughter and his brother by choice – a brother that he sees more as a son. Fawnie sees Shadow for who he is. He struggles to accept himself. She is sunshine, he is shadow. But rays of sunshine have the habit to shine through cracks. It was an emotional rollercoaster I couldn’t get enough of. Both Fawnie and Shadow deserved their HEA, even if they had to fight with internal demons to have it. I loved the Satan’s Angels family, but Preacher the most. I devoured the story and I can’t wait for the next one! 5 stars unquestionably.

Shadow/Finn and Fawnie’s story starts 5 years in the past, when a stranger saves Fawnie from a house fire and disappears. Coming to Hart to be with her father ( Preacher ), Fawnie tells him the story of the fire and the missing man, not realizing Shadow had been tasked with keeping an eye on a teenage Fawnie, preacher puts 2 and 2 together and realizes the irascible Shadow is who Fawnie is looking for, and thus another Satan’s Angel finds his Old Lady, but with a lot of tears, cussing, and outbursts by Finn. Fawnie takes him by his cut and literally drags him out of the Shadows and into the light ! Lily L. James has given us a glimpse into the mind of a man so hurt by his past ( not just the fire, but his broken childhood ), that he pushes everyone away, rather than risk getting hurt. The characters are ones we’ve either seen or heard from in previous Satan’s Angles MC books, but they build up the foundation family trope as well as fated lovers trope. Their path doesn’t run smooth, but it is a hard, sexy fight to their happily ever after. 5✨’s.

This is a great love story that takes years to come together.
Shadow rescued a Fawnie and her cat from a fire, he has the scars to prove it, but never showed his face to her. She has been looking for him to thank him for it. 5 years later, she is back with her father, and Shadow is in charge of taking care of her, she slowly puts pieces together and discovers it is him who saved her, the same man her father saved years ago. Now it is her turn to heal his scars, not just the physical ones, but the ones left from years of abuse. Their love is earned, their redemption even sweeter, the passion is smoldering, and their union is fated!.

Shadow befriends Preacher as a teenager and when Preacher leaves, he asks Shadow to watch over Fawnie. As a result, Shadow saves Fawnie from a fire and when his mother rejects him, he follows Preacher and becomes a reclusive member of the SAMC. Fawnie reconnects with her father and pursues Shadow to thank him. Shadow has been broken by his circumstances and has become a recluse that avoids connections with people. Fawnie, although her intentions are good, essentially forces herself on Shadow and makes him engage. I didn't care for her character much, she was a bit self-centered and disrespectful of other people's desires.

Five years ago Shadows life changed he ran into a burning building to save the daughter (and cat) of the man who saved his life, only ot left him scarred and battling demons within. Now Fawnies turned up in town to be with her dad and wants to know the man who rescued her and left. But Shadows not one for sunshine and rainbows he prefers the quiet his life was shunned into long before the fire added to its toll. But he cant refuse her, as shes starts to crack his heart open will she find a space for her to fit and mend together? The grumpy deflection banter between Shadow and Fawnies makes the story, the chemestry and back and forth, draw you in from the start

Shadow went back in the burning building for the cat. That right there would have me falling in love with him. He and Fawnie built something very real, snatching him from the jaws of self-loathing. And with her learning to be more respectful. The cat lives, btw.

Book 12 of the Satan's Angels MC series. While it can be read as a standalone for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.

'Scars change how people look at you.
My own blood called me a monster.
So I left. Came to Hart. Buried the past.'

The characters were very complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress. Another great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Fawnie, Preacher's daughter, is determined to find the man who pulled her from a fire years ago. The guys in the MC are willing to help but they insist that she gets his okay first. Preacher knows who she is looking for, he is one of the brothers but he never knew that he saved his daughter.

Fawnie is persistent no matter how many times Shadow pushes her away, is rude to her. She sees beneath the shell he shows to the world to the hurt man beneath. He fights letting her in but Fawnie is just so sweet and accepting she starts breaking down his walls.

This is such an emotional story, Fawnie is awesome.

Loved the story. Fawnie has moved to Hart to be with her father. When she tells him about the man who saved her cat in a house fire when she was sixteen, he tells her that he knows who the person was. Fawnie meets Shadow who turns out to be a recluse and doesn't want any thanks. Fawnie has feelings for him, and his stubbornness doesn't stop her from making him talk to her. This book is so full of emotions that sometimes it is very sad and then there is the goodness that Shadow finally finds in Fawnie that has you very happy. This was an emotional story that I enjoyed reading.

This was another engaging read that brings Shadow and Fawnie back into each others lives. Shadow's past includes running into a burning building to save the daughter of a man that saved him. Fawnie is back in town to spend more time with her father but also to learn more about the man that saved her and her cat... Expect to get caught up in the emotions, connection, banter, chemistry and steam as she breaks through Shadow's walls and they get the HEA they both deserve. I'm looking forward to the next book :D

This endearing story had me connecting with Shadow and Fawnie. Their path begins when he saves her from a burning home that leaves with scars. His family disowns him and he leaves town thinking that he is a monster but the girl he saves thinks he is far greater than he believes of himself. When they reconnect, it is through her father, and their path picks up again. This story has beauty and the beast vibes and pulls on your heart through the evolvement of Shadow and Fawnie.

Wow this book was sweet in the way that Shadow really became a recluse after the fire that took Fawnies house and nearly her life 5 yrs ago. And the fact he kept it all to himself not even telling her father and club brother what had happened.
She really brings him back out but yet I feel she is alittle pushy and alittle too attached to the D once she gets it. Lol.
Overall this book was a great read and was more about the members instead of the club drama.

Shadow and Fawnie were so good in this story. He saved her but in the end she saved him. I loved that it went that way. She saw past the scars and saw a wonderful man that would literally walk through fire for her. This was emotional and so good. This is my first time reading this series and I am in love with it.

I love a scarred mmc, and Shadow was totally it. Fawnie fought so hard for him too. She was amazing, and so strong in her own right. Lily L James writes complex characters, especially when it comes to mental health challenges.

Fawnie gets caught in a house fire when the home she shares with her mom catches fire. She is rescued by a stranger, who then returns to save her cat, Bubby. Doing this brave act, he gets burned and injured. Fast forward five years, and Fawnie is living near her father, Preacher, and his family. She finds out the man who rescued her is someone Preacher knows very well, a fellow MC member of the Satan's Angels MC. Shadow. Shadow is one very broken man due to all he has suffered in life, and not just post-fire, but before the fire too. Fawnie sees through Shadow and knows he's hurting, and she is falling for him. Will Fawnie be able to get Shadow to open up more, or will he continue to be a hurt, broken man ostracized from society?
I recieved an arc from Booksprout for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. If you love an MC Romance with lots of angst then you will love this story. Have the tissues handy when Shadow breaks your heart, and Fawnie is there with him, every step. Although this is Book Twelve in the Satan's Angels MC series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
