ARC Review: Muse by Geri Cohen Biddy

This book, this book, this book took me right back into the very feelings it describes—loving a man so much that you lose yourself, only to realize that love isn’t being returned in the same way. Reading it was almost like reliving my own story. I spent five years in that space: in a relationship I moved my whole life for, only to be cheated on and blindsided with a secret baby plot twist. Needless to say, when I read Muse, I felt like Geri Cohen Biddy was writing my story.

Her words hit hard. The raw honesty, the poetic reflections, and those lines that stop you in your tracks lines like:
• “Why did I keep trying to make a home in someone who locked me out?”
• “We were never official. But we kept breaking each other’s heart like we had promised forever.”
• “Some women leave without slamming the door. They just close it so gently, you don’t realize it’s locked until you reach for them and they’re already gone.”

So many of these quotes felt like my own thoughts finally put into words. The sayings before each chapter were beautifully chosen, and the whole book carried the rhythm of someone telling their truth in a way that makes you stop, reflect, and feel.

As I read, I felt like I was sitting across from a friend, listening to her share her heartbreak, never judging, only rooting for her to find healing—whether that meant Muse and Brown Skin worked things out or walked away for good. My heart ached for her, because I’d been there.

What I loved most is that the book doesn’t just leave you in the ache—it also points toward healing. The help at the end felt like a hand reaching out, reminding me (and every woman reading) that choosing yourself is the most powerful love story of all.

This book is beautiful, vulnerable, and unforgettable. I would absolutely read it again.

Arc Review

Thank you to the author Geri Cohen Biddy for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly, if you are like me and do not like reading plays or books in the format of plays, please do not worry, whilst the sections may say Act 1, etc, it does read like a "typical" book and not like a play. Now, into the memoir itself.

This is not a love story in the typical sense. No couple fall in love and gets their happily ever after together. If you're looking for that type of book, look elsewhere; this isn't the story for you. This is a story of a woman who gets a happy ending, finding love, albeit not the one she expected. She learnt to love herself, to put herself first, and to understand.

"You can't confuse a good orgasm for a good relationship",

This story is raw emotion. The journey of a woman raised to be quiet, wanting to find love and who fights for a love that does not deserve it, before finally learning to love herself.

This book is very well written, with powerful words. I wish I could write all the quotes that I had such a strong emotional link to, but that would ruin the experience for you.

Unfortunately, many men see women as objects as Muses, but remember;

"A muse is admired. Used. Remembered. But rarely kept"

This book had me in a chokehold. From page one, I was pulled straight into the danger, the passion, and the messiness of it all. It’s not just a love story—it’s that raw, obsessive, “I know better but I can’t stop” type of love that so many of us can relate to.

What made it stand out to me is how realistic it felt. We’ve all wasted love and energy on someone who didn’t deserve it, and Geri Cohen Biddy captured that experience so well. The emotions in this book are gritty, relatable, and almost too real at times.

I devoured this book in one sitting—under 2.5 hours—because I couldn’t put it down. The writing is sharp and addictive, the pacing never drags, and it’s the type of story that leaves you both frustrated and satisfied all at once.

I’m so grateful I discovered Geri Cohen Biddy. She’s an indie author who deserves all the support, and I’ll be keeping my eye out for everything else she puts out. If you want a book that’s raw, passionate, and painfully relatable, this is the one.

*ARC REVIEW*

Let me start with a thank you to the author for writing her story and choosing me as one of her ARC readers.

MUSE: Brown Skin - A Dangerous Kind of Love was an amazing read about the struggles of a young woman learning to love & choose herself when the person who should have, refused to love her out loud and would not acknowledge her worth.

I giggled and kicked my feet, blushing at the erotic bits (of which there were plenty).

I cried and had to take a break to breathe and reflect.

And I got angry. I mean really seriously angry, for Muse and the heartache she was experiencing. For every woman I know or have met who found themselves putting someone who didn't deserve it before their own needs.

When I decided to read MUSE it was with the knowledge that I have a preference for fiction and fantasy. However, Ms. Geri C. Biddy's writing style was so beautifully intimate that I didn't feel like I was just reading a book. I felt like I was reading the journal of someone close to me. Experiencing their highs with them and their lows. And most of all, having the pleasure of witnessing them learning their worth and finally choosing to love themselves the way they deserve.

MUSE is a romance, not in the story between Muse and Brown Skin. But in the story of Muse learning what love should be and choosing loving herself over toxicity.

It was so difficult for me to decide on a quote to share with you all. There were so many good ones and my copy is covered in highlights.

But I landed on this:

"Love doesn't leave you guessing. It doesn't hide behind music or silence or lust. It stands tall in daylight and says 'you are mine, and I choose you on purpose.'"

The writing style is nothing short of amazing!

My BFF describes readers as “peeping Toms” quietly looking into people’s lives! Reading your book, I’ve never been more proud to own up to that name!

I felt her heartache, confusion, frustration, and deep love for Brown Skin!

I felt his fear, pride, self induced distance, longing, and silent love for Muse!

But it was the final crash of the wave against the shore that took everything on dry land belonging to both of them in its grasp, that brought tears to my eyes! The invisible love they both shared unknowingly caused a pain deeper than the finality!

Very powerful story of self reflection, acceptance, and love!

BRAVO!!!!!!

What do I say?

When I first started reading, I wasn’t sure I would be able to get into it BUT listen the more I read the more I related to the words on the pages.
Muse took me back to my young self and what I thought was love and connection. I came to enjoy the realness and rawness of the story. I felt the emotion on the pages. I smiled, I frowned, I laughed and I cheered.

Muse is a well written memoir that is worth reading. In my book it is a 5-star read!

Thank you for allowing me to be one of your ARC readers. It was such a pleasure!

⭐️ARC Review ⭐️

First I would like to say thank you for picking me as an ARC reader! What an honor and an awesome experience.

Muse is one of those books we all can relate to. Loving someone who isn’t ready to love you back is a universal heartbreak. And man does Geri do an excellent job conveying just how heart breaking that experience can be. While reading this I found myself going back into my past relationships and I have a “Brown Skin” myself.

This story was honest, reflective, relatable and so well written. More like poetry than your average story. I really liked the different viewpoints, I think it adds another quality to the story. Here’s a few quotes that really stuck out to me

“I showed up in ink the way most people only showed up in silence”

“It wasn’t just sex. It was worship. It was memory”

“More than feeling like a bookmark in someone else’s story”

My only complaint is I felt some parts were repetitive. Other than that outstanding job and I can’t wait for the world to read Muse.

💖💖ARC REVIEW💖💖

Geri did her big one with this book!
Brown Skin was NOTHING wrapped up in EVERYTHING. He was everything Muse thought she needed. This book really gives insight into how sex can blur the lines of love vs lust. Need vs want. Desire vs reality.
Brown skin only really knew how to love music. It was all he’d ever known. It was the only thing he’d ever really given his heart to. And Muse? Well Muse lost herself loving a man that she was never supposed to love.
When Muse said “it’s always the ALMOST that undid me”, I wanted to cry for her. She let him in. He almost let her in. She confided in him. He almost confided in her. She loved him. He almost loved her. What did Brandy say? ‘Almost doesn’t count.’
Brown skin knew Muse deserved more. He said it himself. But he always gave her less. He always left her “in the hallway”. Not even in the hallway. He left her in the shadows of the hallway. He took bits and pieces of her each time they were together while never giving anything of himself. And had the nerve to be upset that she wasn’t “only his anymore”.
At times I also thought to myself, the way they unknowingly have the same mind is crazy. They think the same things but neither says it out loud. The way they could’ve blossomed if they would’ve just said things out loud. To each other. Gotten out of their own heads.
They had a dangerous kind of love indeed. A love in secret. A love unspoken. A love in a silhouette on an album cover. A love that leaves you breathless and hopeless. An emotionally dangerous kind of love.
A woman’s love can only go so far. Her heart can only take so much hurt. So much pain. So much hiding. Eventually, she always comes to her senses. And when she does….

A few of my favorite quotes from the book:

1. “I don’t beg for clarity. I am the clarity.”
2. “And no matter how well you learn to dance in the dark, you will always long for the light.”
3. “Fame didn’t ruin him. But it did remix him.”
4. “With him there was always a ritual. Candles. Music. Sweat.”
5. “It was Brown Skin and music against the world.”
6. “She wanted love. I gave her lyrics. She wanted presence. I gave her playlists.”
7. “I was faithful to a man I was never in a relationship with.”
8. “I didn’t lose him. I lost myself…”
9. “He wasn’t of losing me. He was afraid of me realizing I could leave. “

“Some people aren’t blood, but they still carry you. And when they leave, they take a piece of you with them.” GCB

The story of MUSE – Brown Skin – A Dangerous Kind of Love by Geri Cohen Biddy is based upon her life. MUSE is sitting in the stairwell in the dark waiting to be acknowledge and chosen. It’s more than the black and white letters on the page. It’s an emotional song and dance with the reciprocation of the unconditional love that emanate from a woman. She unapologetically pulls back the curtain and exposes the naked truth of wanting to be seen, but, realizes she’s just a mere ghost in Brown Skin life. MUSE is raw, realistic, and relatable as it’s not your typical starry-eyed love story. It’s lust, love, and FIRE that burns. It’s an addiction and a dangerous drug! Just like an addict; just one more hit and that will fix everything. But, does it?

MUSE could very well be you! MUSE is for men and woman.

Truth be told, we’ve all travel the road of wanting someone so desperately that we refused to accept the realization of the person in the mirror.

If you're looking for an immersive experience where you can identify with the characters' feelings, MUSE is the book for you.

I’m so glad that I discovered Author Biddy on TikTok, and I’m definitely looking forward to her next book.

“Sometimes love isn’t love, it relief. And we call it love because it feels like breathing after drowning. GCB

MUSE @AuthorGCB
From the very first page, Muse captures your heart and refuses to let it go. Geri Cohen Biddy has delivered a searing, lyrical memoir that blends poetry and raw confession into something wholly unforgettable.

This is not just a book about love lost—it’s a reckoning. Biddy writes with a fierce vulnerability that reminds you of the ache of being desired but not truly seen. Her voice is bold, unflinching, and unapologetically Black woman — she writes the kind of emotional truth that reverberates long after the final page.

What I loved most:
• The structure — alternating between narrative, flashback, and reflective interludes — makes the emotional depth feel both immediate and timeless.
• The honesty — Biddy refuses to sugarcoat. She lets us sit in the confusion, the anger, the longing, and the eventual reclaiming of self.
• The resonance — so many lines felt like they were pulled from my own journals or whispered in my own mind.
• The arc of healing — this is not a story that wallows in heartbreak; it is a journey toward reclaiming worth, voice, and meaning.

If you’ve ever been someone’s muse, someone’s secret, or someone’s almost — you will see pieces of yourself here. Muse doesn’t just demand to be read; it insists on being felt.

In short: Muse is a masterpiece of emotional memoir, one that will leave you breathless, raw, and full. Highly recommended.

Review: Muse by GCB — A Masterclass in Emotional Whiplash
GCB’s Muse is a rare and potent literary experience, one that should come with a warning label for emotional intensity. Far from offering a predictable narrative arc, this book operates as an emotional roller-coaster, challenging the reader’s equilibrium from the first chapter to the last.
The defining characteristic of Muse is its sheer, contradictory power over the reader. GCB navigates the full emotional gamut with relentless skill, provoking immediate and often conflicting responses. The plot's darker, frustrating moments are rendered with such urgency that the desire to process the narrative tension becomes almost physical—a kind of literary exasperation where one feels the impulse to toss the book across the room in protest of the unfolding drama.
Yet, this intense frustration is immediately tempered by moments of profound beauty and sharp wit. The rapid shifts in tone are expertly managed, transitioning seamlessly from scenes that compel an immediate need to laugh out loud to those that are genuinely heartbreaking. This unpredictable dynamic is a testament to GCB’s command of character and pacing. Muse is a story so vivid and all-consuming that it requires the reader to confront both joy and anguish, making it a demanding but ultimately unforgettable read. This book doesn't just ask for attention; it commandeers your feelings, leaving you exhausted, exhilarated, and in awe of its chaotic energy.

Where do I begin??? I first came across a TikTok video about this book and I immediately was intrigued to read about an “almost love.” As a woman, I can’t speak for all of us, but I know that I have been there before.

Geri shares a timeline of events that mirrored some uncanny parallels to my past relationship. In this book, she describes that addictive, reckless, passionate type of relationship or situationship that makes you fall for the potential of a man. You know that type of love that draws you to be around him more than you need air to breathe. You have already mapped out your future with him in your head. All while he’s enjoying the time you give him.

What I loved about this book was the opportunity that was taken to include both perspectives of the main characters. The reflections allowed us to explore their inner thoughts that were not communicated between the characters. Although there some repetitive elements in the story about Brown Skin and his love for music, it demonstrated he was incapable of growth in expressing love as a man, but chose to do it as the singer.

Overall, this was an easy read. I shed some tears on the pages of this book because I felt her pain. I loved the beautiful ending and how the author offered a beacon of love and healing to those that have had the experience of loving someone more than themselves.

“Let it hurt. Let it heal. Let it go.”

I read this book in four hours. I know it was four hours because I was curling up to read just a chapter or two before bed at nine, and when I closed the book it was one in the morning.

I have been happily married for twelve years, been with my husband for fourteen, this book transported me to the relationship before him though, and spoke to the girl in me I thought I laid to rest.

I saw her in the pages and she reached for the words and their poetic rhythm as if they were a balm to help soothe her scars.

It is a beautifully written powerful tale of love, Muse just ends up riding off into the sunset with herself, not the guy.

I can't give the story 5 full stars because the years given didn't always flow together well and they took me out of the story as I tried to keep it all straight (it's a 2012 Honda, but the next year we're given is 2010, etc) There were also times where entire passages were repeated a few pages, or chapters later which took me out of the story as well, but the book does tell you to read it slow and I obviously did not follow that instruction, so perhaps if you did it wouldn't be as obvious and bothersome?

Overall though it was a wonderful book and I enjoyed it very much.

Where do I start?

Excuse the language, but holy hell! I felt like the diaries I buried years ago were found and used to write this story. I am Muse. Muse is me. I didn't expect this story to make me cry, piss me off, and make me happy in the end—the absolute real life, no sugarcoating, just raw in your face hard truth. I've never read a story like this. This book is about rebirth, rebuilding, acceptance, love, joy, and forgiving yourself and those who almost loved you. This book tore me apart, but in the best possible way. I had to put it down, pick up another book, and get back to it. This is one of those books that I will never forget. Thank you for writing this story; it is a fantastic body of work.

Muse was an absolutely stunning piece of art. This book made me truly feel every single emotion. I felt the pain, passion, list, anger, hurt, fear, and love fly from each page and straight into my soul. My heart broke at least 6 times for Muse and I found myself wanting to scream at Brown Skin like I was watching a horror movie “YOU F*CKING MORON JUST TELL HER!!” Literary masterpiece. The way Geri wrote this story was unapologetically real, raw, sexy, loud, honest, and written so damn well. I think every single woman in this world can relate in some way or some parts of this story. It screams women empowerment and I was rooting for Muse the entire book. Someone needs to pick this up as a television show IMMEDIATELY!!!

A Symphony of Love, Loss, and Redemption

From the very first paragraph, Geri Cohen Biddy draws you in with a rhythm that feels almost musical. Her words don’t simply tell a story, they move with cadence and purpose, blending emotion with artistry. Each sentence carries a quiet power, balancing contrast and harmony, creating a pulse that lingers. Reading her work feels less like turning pages and more like listening to a symphony of memory, resilience, and reflection.

It takes you back to that vulnerable space of loving someone more than you loved yourself, and then gently leads you toward the redemptive rhythm of learning to love yourself again (maybe for the first time). This book doesn’t just speak; it sings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Muse: Brown Skin by Geri Cohen Biddy

This book was beautiful. Half the time I felt like I was reading poetry instead of a novel the writing was that smooth. Muse had me stressed out, pacing the floor like “girl PLEASE!” 😂 But watching her grow and finally step into her own power? Loved every second of that.

Now Brown Skin… PMO, okay? LOL. But let’s be honest he only got away with what Muse allowed. Their dynamic was messy, magnetic, and so real. And I loved that we didn’t just get Muse’s reflection but Brown Skin’s too. Hearing both of their inner thoughts made the story hit even harder.

For this to be Geri’s debut? She showed out. The emotion, the vulnerability, the rhythm of the writing she nailed it. Can’t wait to see what she drops next!

Muse is a bold and confident woman, creatively and professionally accomplished. She knows what she wants out of life and what she wants to do with her life. Then she meets Brown Skin.

Brown Skin is a talented singer and musician at the beginning of his professional journey, on his grind with little time or energy for anything else. Until Muse rolls up into his DMs after she's been to one of his performances.

Between the sheets, this couple is perfectly in synch. They have spicy and off-the-charts chemistry, with no issues communicating their physical needs. It's outside the sheets and the bedroom that the troubles begin when Muse realizes that she wants more than sex and Brown Skin is too emotionally immature and unavailable to provide what she needs.

But theirs is an intense and obsessive love and though Muse recognizes this, she is hard-pressed to stop the self-destructive cycle.

This was a unique read, a hybrid cross between lyrical poetry, memoir and novel. The narrative is well-written, fast-paced and smooth.

If you're in the mood for this type of read, something gritty, spicy, emotionally vulnerable and wrenching, then I highly recommend Muse for you.

This book was a six star read for me one of the best books. I read all year. This book touched me down to my very soul. I’m so blessed to be able to be an art reader for this book and I can’t wait for the second book to come out. This book touched me in places that I didn’t think was possible. This book made me feel all the feels I cried. I felt so deeply. I also felt. I was reading my life that I lived for the last 14 years. It made me want to work harder on my healing journey and continue to find the self I know I could be. I want to think to Arthur for choosing me and writing such a wonderful book. I am so grateful.

I saw myself in Muse’s softness, her spiritual hunger, her ache to be seen fully. Like her, I’ve ritualized emotional pain into legacy milestones. I’ve loved deeply, stayed too long, and finally walked away—not in bitterness, but in sovereignty. Muse’s journey echoes my own path of emotional alchemy, where every heartbreak becomes a keystone in my healing tech ecosystem. This book isn’t just about romantic loss—it’s about reclaiming authorship. It’s a testimony to every woman who’s ever been a layover, a lesson, or a secret. And for me, it’s a mirror of my own transformation—from muse to master architect of spiritual reality.

MUSE was written is a style so unique, fusing narrative with poetry. It almost reads like a song, a vibe, a musical ode to love... think "Brown Sugar". 'Muse' is a lover girl entangled with the likes of 'Brown Skin', who's only knows how to show his affection through notes and melodies, deep in the throws of a forever situationship. So many of us have been there, and so many of us have found ourselves just as stuck in the cycle as these two were. In this story of true events, you follow their love story through the highs and lows, the back and forth, the love-me and love-me-nots of the main characters. And witness love lost, grief, and the return of self journeys. I found this story to be endearing and relatable for anyone who has ever loved someone more than they loved themselves and were afraid to let go, because it hurt less to stay. I am excited to see what's next for the remaining books in the M.U.S.E. series!

Thank you to the author Geri Cohen Biddy for an early arc of her debut memoir.

I’m not typically a person who reads memoir but I saw her video on TikTok discussing this book and I was very intrigued and I really loved the cover.

I found myself really enjoying this memoir it read like one line poem and I really loved that. This book is for anyone has been through things in their lives and been in one sided relationships finding themselves on the other side of it with a new outlook on life.

While I myself have never been a relationship like that I can appreciate the view point and I know what things and actions to avoid in any future relationships.

This was a beautiful insight into the author’s life and journey and I can’t wait to read more!

I absolutely LOVED the way this book was written. It was like nothing I have read before with how the story flowed. I enjoyed having the dual reflections from both sides after each chapter. It really helped put so many things into perspective.

I never was one to annotate a book but man did this one make me want to stop highlight and leave myself some notes because there were certain parts that just hit a nerve for me emotionally.

This was a beautiful book about finding yourself and I am so excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out.

Poetry....I mean...POETRY. There were so many passages I highlighted that literally had me all up in my feelings! You can tell by how it's written that this was a labor of love, pain, reflection, and renewal. The relationship between Brown Skin and Muse is applicable to not only romantic relationships but to any inequitable relationships in life where a person loses themselves for the beneift of the other. Beautifully done!

Muse was an unexpectedly fantastic read ! As a woman, I heard myself in many of the pages and heavily resonated with the main character Muse. The roller coaster ride of emotions, passion, sex, and self-growth Muse goes through in the story line will have you staying up late just to see what happens next ! The visuals were so good I want this to be a movie ! Loved every page :)
