An award winning author, including the GOLD in Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards and LDSPMA Praiseworthy's top award for Romance, Jen Geigle Johnson has more stories circulating in her brain than can possibly be told. She discovered her passion for England while kayaking on the Thames near London as a young teenager. HIstory is her main jam. Her literary heroes include the greats: Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. But she has modern sensibilities as well. Six children and an inspiring husband keep her going and make certain she doesn't stay glued to a keyboard or lost in obscure fascinating details of old castles. She once greeted an ancient turtle under the water by grabbing her fin. She waterskis like a boss and hits the powder, falling down steep moguls with grace. During a study break date in college, she sat on top of a jeep's roll bars up in the mountains and fell in love with the man who would become her everything.
Now, she loves to share bits of history that might otherwise be forgotten. Whether in Regency England, the French Revolution, or Colonial America, her romance novels are much like life is supposed to be: full of adventure.
What are you anchored to? What gets you through the hard times? What keeps you going when everything looks dark? What are you anchored to? This book looks at those questions pulling from scripture and personal experiences of the author. Discussing the value and peace you can get when anchored to Christ and his promises. A contemplative read. Be aware this book comes from the perspective of a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Well worth your time. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
The anchor represents hope, acting as a steadfast sign of safety and security (derived from Hebrews 6:19, "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;")
The world often feels uncertain; Anchored in Hope is a wonderful reminder that hope is more than optimism—it's something that can keep us steady through life's storms. Jen Geigle Johnson combines personal experiences, scripture, and teachings from Latter-day apostles and prophets to explore what it means to build lasting hope centered on Jesus Christ.
One of the things I appreciated most about this book was how practical it is. Rather than simply discussing the principles of hope, the author includes activities and reflection exercises at the end of several chapters. These steps encourage the reader to pause so we can apply what we've learned and strengthen our own foundation of hope. Each chapter reinforces the idea that hope is something we can intentionally cultivate.
If you're looking for a spiritually uplifting read that offers both inspiration and practical application, Anchored in Hope is worth picking up. I received a digital copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
This is one of those books that you highlight passages that pertain to you and when you get to the end you realize you basically highlighted the whole book. it is beautifully written, and the message is so inspiring. We all go through trials and continuing to have hope and faith through them can be really hard. I loved the useful tips of documenting, making a journal and comparing your trials to scripture trials. I read through this book in one setting, but now I want to go through and read a chapter a day and focus on each chapter. In my opinion, I think this book would benefit anyone who read it. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When all is dark and hope is lost what are you anchored in? Who do you turn to? What pulls you out of the slump? Where do you find hope in those times that all seems lost? This is a beautifully written book and one to come back and read again
