Decent
Pretty good book, would have rated it 3.5 stars if I could. There’s a lot of secrets going on behind the scenes that the main characters are starting to catch on too. Hidden information but some cracks they found and started asking questions. It was all in Lumi’s point of view except the epilogue where it was Headmaster Twilson point of view. He knows the history of all those cracks and trying to control the narrative.
Lumi connects with Cal, and he remembers he left his pack members on the mountain after he got lost. There is a lot of talk, over chapters, that they need to get back up on that mountain to save them. Lumi is starting to have visions of this pack and feels Cals guilt and severe concern. She convinces James, and Neal (the new mate who is a dr at the clinic) to go with her and Cal to rescue his pack members who are still on the mountain, stuck in wolf form. They get there in record time, nothing like the first book where it was a bunch of chapters of them trudging up the Denali mountain. They find the pack and the alpha attacks Lumi, whereas the rest of the pack recognizes Cal and stands down. The Alpha is also Lumi’s mate, which he tried to reject immediately. It was unclear if he knew what was happening, that his shifter half, his wolf knew he was also part human. After several tranqs, they got off the mountain with the alpha conked out on a sled and the other pack members following along. After reaching the academy, all the wolves are put into 2 containment rooms. The aggressive alpha in one and the 4 others together in another. Lumi names the alpha Stone. 75% of the book is him showing aggression in his locked room and the remaining 25% is him being calm and stable being in Lumi’s presence. She attends school and classes, where everyone is whispering about her, spreading rumours. Lumi ignores them all and the council decides to send in a 3rd party to assess the threat. Turns out Cole is also her mate. That makes 5 now. Stone at the end shifts into a man for several mins, thankfully because they were about to decide if they should put down all the feral wolves. Regardless of progress. We have Cole to thank for supporting the clinic and making sure these feral wolves have time to heal. Twilson is still picking on Lumi, and we find out during the epilogue that the point of the academy is to understand why 16 women in a span of 50 years can reach feral wolves and pull them back into themselves. Unfortunately even if Twilson doesn’t have the backing of the old council, he is still pursuing on trying to find out what makes Lumi special, special enough to bring feral wolves back from the brink.

This book is packed with more action than its predecessor, yet it still struggles with a notable lack of depth. The MMCs from the first book, James and Cal, are largely sidelined in the latter half, shifting the narrative’s focus almost entirely to Stone. Amid her mission to save the ferals single-handedly, Lumi somehow finds time to divert her attention to Neal. And then another mate bond starts forming by the end of the story.
Regrettably, the book falls short in developing a compelling romance between the four male characters and the female protagonist. Moreover, the female lead often exhibits TSTL behaviour that undermines her character. It’s also frustrating to see Ivy continually defend her without demanding any explanations; at this stage, Lumi hasn’t done enough to deserve Ivy's unwavering loyalty.
Despite these issues, the plot is engaging, fast-paced, and kept me entertained.

**SERIES Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 Stars) — A massive step up from the original series with much better plot and character development!**
I'm so, so happy to say that this spin-off series was leagues better than the original! There were still some issues, of course, but all in all, it was definitely better! The plot and character development were better laid out and didn't feel like the author was just throwing things together.
I felt like all the characters were really well written, especially Lumi, the FMC. I do have two issues with them, though. First, I felt like Cal, the first feral MMC, started off really interesting and then just got moved to the background. Second, Stone, another feral, was the worst off in the group with a lot of mental anguish and struggling. And then, all of a sudden, he's better and she's spending most of her time with him while her other mates are just kind of there. I just felt it could have been handled better.
Also, again, the big bad villain of the series was defeated way too easily, just like in the last series. The stakes felt high and the payoff was good, but the "battle" and win felt too rushed and convenient. I'm glad to see Twilson come to justice, though. I hated him in the last series and hated him even more in this one.
I'm actually looking forward to the next spin-off series from Jaye, especially because of the new school for the ferals and knowing that RJ is one of the MMCs.
Honestly, as bad as the first series was, I think if you're going to start diving into this world, read through the first 4 books of the *Frosthaven* series so you have the full picture coming into this one. It's worth it for the context.

Outstanding second in series. This book is minimal in romance, and has lot of mystery. Every time we get an answer there are more questions. I do wish there was a little more focus on character and relationship development. I can't wait to see where the story goes, and I'm excited to continue the series in the next book.

I hate Twilson so bad. Been tired of him since The first Arctic series. Why is he still in power!? And then those revelations at the end? Call me George with the way I'm curious.
Aside from that, I do feel this book was slightly dragged out and slightly repetitive with some things. I'm ready to see how these last two bonds work out though!!

Can't put it down
Amazing storytelling... the selflessness, the compassion, the caring and the passion Lumi feels for her pack woven throughout this story... simply phenomenal writing.

Tough
This book was harsh where Lumi had to be tough to get through everything that was thrown at her. The council and head master of the school putting so much pressure on her to a braking point, which she did a few times, but she is holding strong.

Personally, I'm not a fan of reverse harem stories. Or even harem stories. First 2 mates was okay but after she keep la adding on, it felt like a joke so I stopped reading.
I think the writing is ok, just don't really like the premise of the reverse harem.
