When ghost hunters invade your vacation rental and the local spirits start staging supernatural tantrums, you know it's going to be one of those weeks.
Just when Abbey Quinn thought the magical side of her life was under control, her Victorian's resident ghosts have gone full poltergeist—and her perfect vacation rental is now famous for all the wrong reasons. There’s even a web series spreading wild theories about cults and disappearances. So while ghost hunters swarm her property like paranormal paparazzi, turning her rental into reality TV chaos with their EMF readers and night vision cameras, Abbey attempts to discredit them. But it backfires spectacularly, and suddenly she’s the magical headline.
To stop the madness, she enlists a local ghost whisperer, who discovers the spirits are frantic about finding a woman who's gone missing. Only Abbey’s not sure it’s real until a man from her childhood vanishes without a trace, and whether he irritates her beyond reason or sends sparks down her spine, she can’t ignore what’s happening.
Now Abbey's dodging flying objects (seriously, these ghosts have terrible timing), internet trolls convinced she's a witch, and her new beau's scheming ex—all while dealing with a kidnapper with unclear motives and a mystery that's bigger than anything she faced in her uncle's murder.
But time is running out and before the disappearances become permanent, Abbey rallies all the magic at her her daughter Sarah’s new “witchy” powers, her larger-then-life mother Caroline, and a magical group of people who think she’s their next leader.
Because when family secrets and disappearances start connecting in dangerous ways, Abbey discovers some mysteries span generations, and some magic runs deeper and darker than she ever imagined.
A fun and cozy read if you like mysteries with a side of supernatural chaos, three generations of witchy women, and enough paranormal mayhem to make your coffee cup levitate.
Jennifer Vail lives in Portland Oregon where weird is good and trees are everywhere. It fits her perfectly. On occasion, she still dances around the house wishing she had fairy wings.
Before Jennifer spent her days writing, she served greasy food to the masses, dealt cards in a smoke filled casino, and obtained millions of dollars for better schools.
These days, when she’s not obsessively typing words, she can be found hiking in the forest, participating in a Netflix marathon, or curling up with a cup of tea and a good book.
Abbey and her daughter Sarah are just trying to get their rental open and filled, but the resident ghosts and the ghost hunters who moved into the rental are not making life easy. Trying to calm the ghosts and manage the ghost hunters only adds to the turmoil of trying to find a missing woman, navigating a beginning romance, keeping up with her witch training, and discouraging the coven from making her their leader. Things go from chaotic to dangerous as seeming pranks turn to serious threats against her and her family, and there are signs of strong, dark magic behind them. From laugh-out-loud moments to edge-of-the-seat scenes, this is a fun, engaging, and very enjoyable book. I definitely recommend it and look forward to the next one.
This book is an absolute joy from start to finish. It is thoroughly gripping with a twisty plot and big surprises. The worldbuilding is detailed and imaginative, with well-crafted, fascinating characters and delicious humour. I loved it!
