The Beginning: The Parents of Camelot (Brothers of Camelot #.5) by Necie Navone
This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The Beginning: The Parents of Camelot is the prequel to the Brothers of Camelot Series. It can be read as a standalone. I will warn you that if you don’t want to read about Postpartum Depression then I don’t think this will be the book for you.
Monica is the mother to Brendan and she just can’t seem to call him that. She wonders if she is going out of her mind. She doesn’t feel like she is herself and is trying to figure out why. After a night with friends she drinks more than she intends to and kicks her husband out. She tells this to her mom: “Mom, for your information, my marriage isn’t over. Allen and I will work this out. I will not get a divorce. I have a wonderful husband who still loves me and is waiting for me. Thank God he’s giving me this time to fix things. I’m sure he knows I’ve kind of had a breakdown, but I’m not giving up on us. I just need to clear my head first.”
Allen is excited to be a dad, but things aren’t going so well between him and his wife. Things he doesn’t understand and won’t understand until she lets him in. He is kicked out of his house by his wife after a drunken night with their friends. He then makes a mistake that might just cost him his marriage. He says this to his son when he was a baby: “Brenden, your daddy loves you, and I always will. You’re my firstborn, the one to carry on our last name. I’ll make sure you can be anything you want to be, whether it’s a lawyer like me and my dad, or a doctor like your mommy. You might even be president when you grow up. Nothing will ever hold you back. You’ve got the best mommy anyone could ever want. You’re going to love the backyard she’s been dreaming up for you, long before we even knew you were coming. You already have friends ready to play with you. Our best friends beat us in the baby department. Richard and Diana have a boy named Grayson, and he’s a big boy, too. Sergeant Danny and Barbara have a boy, as well. Noah, Grayson, and you will be playing soldiers before the three of you can walk. I’m sure of it. We’ll have lots of fun times together.”
The Beginning: Brothers of Camelot Parents is the prequel and intro to the Brothers of Camelot series by Necie Navone. I have read the whole series and have loved every minute between those pages as Ms. Navone is a wonderful storyteller, weaving a superb stories that pluck at my heart strings, while creating characters who really took on a life of their own- coaxing me into their world end enticing me farther and farther into their stories, making me need to know how everything works out. So finding we get the parents story here, certainly got my attention and I couldn’t wait to dive in. This book has set the whole series off to a wonderful start. With second chances, romance, emotion, family, and history – there was plenty to keep me flipping the pages to follow along. But this isn’t a ‘hearts and flowers’ romance – this ‘romance’ is put to the test – their love and commitment comes under fire with challenges, secrets, lessons, betrayal, tension, and dramatic developments. Is their love strong enough to endure? No spoilers from me, so you will need to read the story for yourself to find out. Take note: there are some sensitive topics that come into play in the story, which may be possible triggers for some readers (adultery + postnatal depression). If you have read the other books in the series then you will definitely want to add this book to your collection. But if you are new to Ms. Navone’s stories – then this is the perfect introduction to the Brothers of Camelot series. Happy Reading…
The Brothers of Camelot Parents by Necie Navone. 5 of 5 Stars. This is an emotional and engaging story which kept me captivated throughout. Monica and Allen Gregory seem to have it all, a loving marriage, thriving careers and the family they both dreamed of. However, in reality Monica is suffering with postpartum depression, and the couple are coping with the heartache and strong emotions that comes with it. There are also secrets in the family and Allen’s guilt threatens to ruin everything they have built together. As their seemingly unbreakable bonds are tested, a shocking revelation from the past resurfaces forcing the couple to confront both feelings of betrayal and forgiveness. Monica and Allen have to decide if their love for one another is enough to survive the unimaginable.
I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading this story. Both Monica and Allen are such realistic and relatable characters that I felt instantly connected to them and invested in their relationship. The storyline does involve a sensitive topic, postpartum depression, however, this is dealt with sensitively and I feel it will bring much needed awareness. I didn’t realise that this is in fact a prequel to a series called ‘Brothers of Camelot’, and I read it happily as a standalone story. Having been gripped by this story it’s definitely made me feel intrigued about the series and I’m keen to make a start at reading that next!
This is the prequal in the Brother Of Camelot series. It is a really moving story which I was gripped to from the beginning. It hit home for me as I suffered after having my baby too so I could really relate the emotions and how scared Monica was. This is a story about a relationship between two people who have so many obstacles thrown at them but are determined their love will overcome it all. It contains themes of secrets, depression, betrayal, and mistakes from the past coming into the open.
Monica and Allen had a fairytale marriage. They are so in love and have been for years and now their life was complete with the arrival of their son. However things didn't go quite as planned. After the birth of Brenden Monica stuffed with depression and her only way to cope is to distance herself from Allen. As Monica starts to work on getting better secrets she has been keeping in come to light.
Allen meanwhile has been thrown out and is struggling on his own. When his friend pays for an escort he refuses until temptation gets the better of him. After all he thinks who would find out. However it's not all fun and when Allen gets a surprise he didn't expect he worries his world would be blown apart.
Fast forward 6 years and the surprise Allen thought he was free of comes to light. How will Monica react? Is their love that has overcome so much he strong enough to get them through this too?
This story is part of a series that I have enjoyed reading from the start. I enjoy this author’s creative details that bring life not only to the plot but the characters as well. I also enjoy this author’s ability to pull me into the characters' lives from the start and keep me engaged to the end. This is a story that is a prequel to the Brothers of Camelot with Allen and Monica. Their marriage seems to be perfect on the surface. But looking closer you will see secrets and heartbreaking emotions that test their bond. Their story is one of betrayal and finding the true meaning of family. I enjoyed all the characters in this story and the roller coaster ride they took me on in parts. Monica and Allen have great chemistry and attraction throughout which made their story easy to read. I also enjoyed the growth of the story that hit the entertainment value list as well. I found this story fast paced and hard to put down. This is a great addition to this series in which I highly suggest reading all previous books. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.
This book really surprised me in the most unexpected way. It was the first I had read by this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It ended up being way more emotional than I expected going in. Monica and Allen look like they have the perfect life, but the story does such a good job peeling back the layers and showing how messy and complicated things really are. The portrayal of postpartum depression felt raw and honest, and it added so much depth to Monica’s character. It’s not a topic that is often covered which is what makes this author’s feat so much more impressive. I loved that this is a prequel because it gives so much meaning to the family legacy behind the Brothers of Camelot series. The themes of forgiveness and fighting for love really hit home. It’s heavy at times, but in a way that feels purposeful and heartfelt. I highly recommend picking this up if you are looking for an emotional, character-driven story with strong family bonds.
The Brothers of Camelot Parents by Necie Navone. This is the prequel to The Brothers In Camelot and its about their parents. Its the love story of Monica & Allen and it begins with Monica dealing with postpartum after the birth of their son. Which I can relate to so much as I lost one of my twin boys from being born too early. From the outside in Monica & Allen seem to have it all together, perfect marriage, perfect life but it is far from perfect. Allen has secrets from his past that is threatening to come back to destroy him and everything he loves. Showing that love and commitment can pull two people through all kinds of storms if they are able to work together and build up that trust again. A romance based on second chances and forgiveness is a great testament to marriages everywhere especially in today's crazy world.
The Beginning: The Parents of Camelot (The Brothers of Camelot)
My emotions were all over the place while reading. I felt anger at a few of them, disbelief, disappointment and happiness.
I had to stop reading for a bit to calm myself down a few times, but the entire time I wasn't reading I was thinking about everyone and curious about the outcome.
There is something about each and every one of the characters that I love, but also a few that have qualities I'm not thrilled with.
I throughly enjoyed reading this book, the story of the previous generation was so interesting. I have read the others in this series, but might have to go back and read them again. Think i might feel a little different about things now that there is a detailed back story.
Hope I don't have to wait too long for the next one.
Alice and Allan Gregory seem like they have it all to anyone not directly involved in their lives. The truth is there is heartache behind those bright smiles, betrayal hiding behind their smiling eyes, and secrets hidden deep inside their breaking hearts. Together they must weather the storm as something from the past pops up that could shatter their whole world. They are on the brink of losing everything that they hold dear. Together they will fight against everything and everyone that is trying to tear their family apart. I haven't read any of the other books this book is a prequel for but I will definitely be picking them up. This is the first book I have read by this author and I have high hopes for anything I else I read by her in the future.
The Beginning: The Parents of Camelot is kind of a prequel to the Brothers of Camelot series. I read the books a few years back but remember that I loved them. The book is filled with a lot of characters. They are blunt and have potty mouths. This book is not for the faint of heart as it has adultery and women for hire. I went through phases of hating and loving each character. My favorite was the ending when all the kids are together and playing, and the banter between the friends. It’s a rough story with a happy ending. Now I want to go back and re-read The Only One to refresh my memory on Drake and Isabella.
As a prequel to The Brothers of Camelot series, this book is a great addition. The book touches on some sensitive topics but the author does so sympathetically. The story adds to the context of the series, building on the world already created. The challenges the characters face in this book are ones a lot of people can relate to. This helps to draw you in to them, make you connect with them as you read about their journey. They have a lot of emotional upheaval in the book but the author handles it so easily. I definitely became invested in these characters the whole way through. I enjoyed this additional to an already great series.
The Beginning: The Parents of Camelot is an emotional, heartfelt read that easily earns four stars for its depth and honesty. Monica and Allen feel incredibly real, and their struggles with love, guilt, and healing are handled with care and authenticity. The story does a great job balancing heavy themes with hope, making the emotional payoff feel well worth it. As a prequel, it adds rich backstory and meaning to the Camelot world while standing strong on its own, and it left me invested, moved, and excited to see how this family’s legacy continues.
This book is not what I was expecting at all, in the best of ways. I was not anticipating the spice, but I am certainly not mad about it! This book is the prequel to a series, and I am looking forward to reading the series. This book covers the love story of Monica and Allen. However, it is not all romance. There is significant challenges, and you watch the characters as they overcome the challenges they face, giving second chances in order to help build their family. I found this book to be incredibly raw and emotional, I really enjoyed it.
