Snowcroft Men #2

Snowcroft Safehouse

Rate this book
A year ago Declan Jasper was entertaining sold-out arena crowds as the lead singer of Black Rainbows. But that came to an explosive end when the band got caught up in a criminal cover-up, one that ended with the entire band dead. At least that’s what everyone is supposed to think.

Now, Dex is hiding in plain sight, working as the school band director in a sleepy little mountain resort town while under the protection of a hard-nosed FBI agent. Instead of eyeliner and black leather, he now wears glasses and corduroy. Instead of having sexy coeds—both male and female—throw themselves into his bed, he’s dealing with teenage angst and grumpy parents.

At the top of his troubles list is Kelsey Walker, a junior high bundle of rare musical talent in the form of one confused, messed-up adolescent. Dex figures the problem comes from her broken home and wants to help. But when he meets her father, sexy bar-owner, Jack Walker, he realizes that instead of helping he’s probably just bringing more trouble and danger to their door.

Dex has to stay alive until the trial to bring his bandmates’ murderers to justice, but can he do that if it means sacrificing his own happily ever after?

This is a sequel to Snowcroft Lost, but it does well as a standalone too. Finn comes to the small town of Snowcroft to hide from the mob. He gets hired at the local school as the new music teacher, which is perfect for him since in his previous life he was a rock star. (Yes, I know it sounds ridiculous, but somehow it works, trust me). Anyway, he meets Jack, the local bartender/bar owner/dad of one Finn's students, who's also deeply in the closet. Sparks fly, mayhem eventually ensues, and the boys live happily after once the bad guys are demolished. This was fun, intense, and totally engaging. I was able to completely suspend reality and buy into the whole "rock star turned government witness" scheme. Can't wait til the next book.

*** 3.5 Stars ***

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me five times? Well then, I deserve what I get.

I'll start by saying that, for the most part, I enjoy Snow's writing. She sucks me in with a plot that sounds ridiculous but fun (a rock star in witness protection? Sign me up!), and she creates characters that I like and enjoy reading about. She doesn't opt for the insta-love, the sex scenes are usually hot enough to satisfy, and I ALWAYS find myself rooting for her main characters (both M/M and M/F) to get their HEA.

But Snow falls into the same trap EVERY SINGLE TIME and it drives me bonkers!

I've read five books by Ms. Snow now, and each time, the entire thing falls apart between 85-90% of the way through. I know she writes romantic suspense. I understand that readers have to suspend a certain amount of disbelief when reading this genre because the climax of books like these tend to be pretty far-fetched, but Snow's are... BEYOND ridiculous.

This one might have been the worst yet, though. Not only did the Marshals, FBI, and local cops ALL come across like incompetent idiots, but the villain was WAY over the top, and the violence at the end bordered on gratuitous. Strike that, it WAS gratuitous.

*big sigh*

So the first 85% of this book gets 4 stars from me, the last 15% gets 2 stars, and I rounded up because I know I'm still going to come back and read Law's story.

I am, pretty much always, a fan of Christi Snow's writing. This book, though, was hit or miss. I enjoyed parts of it, quite a lot, but the suspense plot, I found to be too far fetched. I'm ok with suspending disbelief anytime I read a suspense novel, because they are almost never realistic and are generally predictable. However, this one went past what I could believe.

The feds let the bad guy slip through their fingers too easily and when he surfaced, he was too over the top.

With the suspense part, at least mostly, out of the way, I enjoyed both Jack and Finn, but could have done without Jack's daughter, Kelsey. At first, I liked her. She's a kid and is excitable. She was also pretty level headed. My problem came when she suddenly turned into a brat. It just came out of left field. And Jack didn't even ground her for lying about her whereabouts, etc.

So, while this one didn't quite do it for me, I am looking forward to Law's book and hope that it sucks me in like Christi Snow's writing usually does.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the review copy of this book,

I am loving this series. A former rock star in hiding? Oh yeah! The romance was sweet, not saccharine sweet, and Law and Dex had the perfect bromance going on. We got some sex, some action, a bromance and a snarky kid. Great read. Now Law, Now Law!!

Having backtracked and read first book of the series, I had high hope of this second entry. A middle school teacher met disgruntled bar-owner parent... Alas, my excitement turned to disappointment.

The second book of The Men of Snowcroft series was set about a year after Snowcroft Lost. Dex Jasper was the only survival and witness to an attack on his rock band concert a year ago that killed his bandmates. He took on a new identity and persona: Finn Alexander - band teacher with Snowcroft Middle School, under a watchful eye of FBI agent Law Wyman who posed as his new-found little brother.

From the spotlight of thousands of fans to the center of attention of his band students, their parents and practically everybody in the small town, Finn found himself drawn to Jack Walker, bar owner and his talented student's single parent - who was deep in the closet.

We met Law and Jack in #Book1, and though theirs were very short appearance, that helped to understand the struggle these men gone through in this book. Jack's need to stay in the closet; he had pre-teens daughter and didn't want to jeopardise her upbringing by having an outcast as a father in such small town.

Snowcroft is not filled with narrow-minded people. I think. At least, aside from Trevor's late uncle (yep, Trevor and Jamie turned up on some scenes here). With Jack's air force background, I'd have thought him to have more guts to stick by Finn's side when his true identity revealed. Or when Jack regretted his decision and changed his mind, again, HE would be the one making the effort of apologizing and GROVELLING, instead of jumping the Finn's bones when he showed up. Lack of finesse??

So yes, I was basically not impressed with how half the book progressing. I didn't even find out what Frederick Barton - the big mafia villain Dex in hiding from - had had beef with Black Rainbows about after much later in the book, when Dex gave his deposition.

After the slow pace at the beginning, Finn settling down to his new home and preparing for teaching, the story suddenly picked up and rushed through the actions to get to the dramatic Hollywood-style epilogue!

While I loved HEA for the heroes in my book, the closing scene just had me pursed my lips in distaste.

There were also some editing issues here with characters detail, that a few times had me go back to check previous pages/chapters (I even messaged the author with this issue!).

So all in all, not as much as I like the first book. Not surprisingly, the character I like here was the supporting one, Law Wyman. And I hope his book (which I believe will be coming next) do not disappoint.

It’s no secret that I love Romantic Suspense. And Christi Snow is smack dab at the top of my favorite authors in this genre.
After a horrible act of, domestic violence/stalking, Dex is alive, but deep in hiding. But, being the true musician that he is, he finds a way to do his music, even while under witness protection.

I really enjoyed this book. Dex in particular captured my attention in the opening pages and only made me love him throughout. He has lived through a tragedy that would make many men lose it. Instead, he is determined that justice will be done. Mind you, he’s also pissed off the Marshalls enough that they won’t protect him anymore.

Now, Jack is another matter. He’s just a simple guy, doing his best to raise his daughter alone. Falling for a guy was not in his short-term plans. Not that he didn’t ever want to be with a man again, but he figured he just wait til Kelsey graduated…or maybe got married and moved across the country.

The chemistry between Declan and Kelsey is smokin’. Not gunna lie, I loved watching Dex seduce Kelsey out of his closet. And I loved the relationship between Kelsey and Dex. The three of them make a perfect little family.

I highly recommend Snowcroft Safehouse for readers who like a bit of suspense with their romance.

And Ms. Snow I would appreciate having Law’s story, asap. ;-)

Reread 2021

Again there wasn’t a lot I remember firm my previous read, so this is like read it for the first time again.

I did enjoy this one more than the first book of the series, the story kept me entertained even while I had to suspend belief to read it. There was no way the Dex/Finn was presumed dead after his injuries, too many people at the hospital would have seen him to keep it quiet, someone would have blabbed.

Regardless I still enjoyed seeing Finn and Jack work their way towards their HEA. It was also great to see Law and how both Finn and Law created a brother bond during the book.

I really liked Finn and how he grew into his high school teacher role, although I would have liked to have seen more interaction with the kids, it was more just mentioned in passing. Jack was also a good character and watching him come to terms with the relationship and come out was good.

The guys took a bit to get their act together but it was worth it in the end.

This is the second book in the Snowcroft series, but can be read as a standalone.

Dex Jasper was an out-gay rocker, guitarist and lead vocalist for Black Rainbows, when the vindictive ex of his bassist, and a notorious mafioso Freddie, blew their concert to Kingdom Come--killing the three other bands members and wounding Dex. Due to Freddie's mob connections, the FBI wants him put away for good, but Dex isn't safe. While awaiting trial, Dex is given a new WITSEC identity, and shuttled around the country. A year has passed and Dex still suffers nightmares and migraines from his injuries in the explosion. His new watchdog, Law Wyman, has arranged for them to hide in tiny Snowcroft, a mountain town in rural New Mexico.

Posing as half-brothers Finn and Law Alexander, Dex/Finn takes a job as music teacher in the Snowcroft middle school. He meets Jack, owner of the local watering hole, Logger's, and single father to Kelsey, one of Finn's soon-to-be students. There is a quick attraction for both men. Jack has been closeted his whole life, even having married. His (then ex-) wife died three years ago from breast cancer. The close proximity of Finn, Law and Jack is further cemented when Law takes a job at Logger's.

Jack deals with a lot of grief/guilt over his decisions with Kelsey's mother. He knew before they married that he was gay, but before he could break things off Kelsey was conceived. He's not ready to be "out" but he also can't deny his attraction for Finn, who is both sexy and mysterious. Finn hasn't felt any attraction for anyone since his bandmates died. He's suffered both depression and PTSD, so finding Jack appealing brings him back to humanity, a bit. Their steps towards each other aren't terribly slow for a closet case and a WITSEC informant, but it works. Each man is hungry for the comfort the other can provide.

Complications arise because Kelsey is a huge fan of Black Rainbows, and Jack is suspicious of all the backstory snafu's. Also, Jack wants to remain closeted. Finn (Dex) knows how fleeting life is and isn't sure he can hold back, plus, he doesn't know how long he'll remain in Snowcroft. Expect blowouts of the tween population, and vengeful mobsters who like to play with their prey. Some gruesomeness on the page. The "out"ing happens all at once, not only of Jack's sexuality, but his attraction to Finn, as well as Finn's cover story...

I liked the story. It was interesting with good pacing. There are some nice sexytimes, and thrilling parts near the end. We get an HEA, eventually, though some of the climax felt rushed. I received a review copy of this book via NetGalley.

I received Snowcroft Safehouse in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I’m happy to say that the Snowcroft series is turning into everything I thought it would be…and more. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. I’ve been a fan of Christi Snow and her characters for quite some time. This series has just given me a whole new cast of characters to fall in love with. <3

Finn (aka Dex) was a broken mess. His world ended when the explosion took his best friends along with his identity. Instead of being the center of attention, he now has to blend in and some of the people sworn to protect him are less than friendly. By the time he reaches Snowcroft and ends up in the hands of a grumpy Law, he’s pretty much had it. Then he meets Jack.

Jack was introduced in Snowcroft Lost and it was obvious then that there was a lot more to his story. He was deep in the closet because of his fear of typical small town mentality and hurting his family, especially his daughter. Starting a relationship was totally out of the question. Sometimes fate has different plans. This turned out to be a story about hiding. Finn was hiding from the obvious danger of the mob. Jack was hiding his true self from everyone who loved and cared about him. Those kinds of situations never end well and this story was no exception.

Even though I loved the relationship between Jack and Finn, there was another character that pulled me into Snowcroft Safehouse even more. That character was Law… I love that guy and in my opinion he can’t get his HEA soon enough. In my mind I know that he has some serious healing to do before that can happen, but he’s really breaking my heart. The big tough ones usually do. *sigh*

I can't believe this MC said to his brilliant daughter that a saxophone was a guy's instrument. She corrected him but that is so offensive. Oh, ok, the other MC called him on some sort of sexism later.

They would have lasered off the tattoo or put something over it. It's too distinctive. They aren't even allowed to bring photos. Oh he's covering it up with a bandage? A tattoo that crosses both shoulder blades? When is that excuse going to wear thin?

My favorite line (spoiler because NSFW):

I love that Finn made Jack say out loud what he wanted to make sure there was no misinterpretation or forcing in the sex since it was his first time.

Migraines are not just bad headaches!

Professional musicians have many guitars and they usually play multiple in concert. Think about it. Haven't you ever seen a musician put a guitar down and pick another up? He or she puts down the one he or she is using, and a roadie sneaks in and puts another one next to him and takes the old one? And they always have acoustic guitars for writing music which wouldn't be on stage unless and until needed thus it wouldn't have been destroyed.

She got "think" instead of "thing" right. I should start a shelf.

She wrote these books just for me. She had to because I crave everything here: drama, suspense, intrigue, MCs in fear and danger, major peril, hospital scenes, locales I love, no over telling about what people look like so I can stay with what works for me for the characters, etc., etc. I LOVE this series. 5+ stars and faves.

Kill me slowly, why don't you? *gives everyone sad, angsty eyes at everything Dex/Finn and Jack have to go through to get their HEA* And Law. LAWWWW! Oh, gawd. I want him to have some happy. POOR MAN.

But this is Finn and Jack's story (Don't be confused, Dex is Finn. And Finn/Dex is fantastically awesome.), so I'm going to quietly put Law on the backburner and tell him it'll be all right. Just wait, you hunky, brute of a damaged man. Just wait.

Right. Finn has some issues he's working out. They're pretty brutal as issues seeing as how he's the lone survivor of a horrific incident. He's recovering both physically and emotionally from what happened, but he's nowhere near 100%. (And I wouldn't expect him to be. Poor man. Huh. I get the feeling I'm going to be saying that a lot this review.) The chemistry he has with Jack is a breath of fresh air after everything he's gone though.

And then there's Jack. He knows he's attracted to men, but he's unwilling to publicly admit it because he doesn't want to hurt his daughter in any way. I totally get where he was coming from and I LOVE Kelsey's response when she (eventually) finds out. It was incredibly sweet and I JUST LOVED IT. OKAY?!?!

Twists and turns, danger and the potential for heartache on all fronts and OMG! LAW! FINN! EVERYTHING! You're killing me, Snow. Killing me with the beautiful, damaged men.

Thank you for that!

An enjoyable read. I’m usually up for a rockstar story. (Rockstars and tattoo artist are totally my bag, so please send ‘em my way!) While this wasn’t about his bad boy life, the story of Dex is still full of rockstar drama.

Dex and Jack are sexy and sweet together. For all the book is 235 pages, I could have easily read more details about their lives adjusting to post-rockstar and coming out of the closet things. The blurb is a little misleading, as it says more about Kelsey being an impetus for them to get together than I really felt occurred.

The bigger challenge was Jack being in the closet in his teeny tiny town. There’s plenty of backstory and torment there for any relationship. Add to it that Dex is on the run from some super sadistic, creepy bad guys, and eek.

Okay, this....wasn't that bad.
Rockstar is band teacher because witness protection. Meets bar dude.
Lots of emotional throwing up. Lots of piled on stuff to add more drama, including a nasty virus. Blood and guts at the climax. Rockstar becomes band master at junior high school 'cos he likes it better. As you can tell, I was totally sucked in by all the heightened emotion.

And as usual, professionals acting unprofessionally - to make it all that more dramatic!

I really enjoyed this one, just like the first one. I loved Dex and Jack and was so glad they found each other. What Dex had to go through and what he was going through, I was just glad he had Jack. They were so hot together. A lot happens but you know me, I think of great things to say but trying to write them down doesn't always work, hehe. Christi did make me cry though(that's always a great thing when I'm reading, it means the book moved me) I really hope we're getting Law's story.

This book has good moments and bad moments for me. Several times I thought the dialogue was a bit immature, even between the adults. The story is very predictable and in typical romantic suspense formulaic fashion, around the 85% mark everything went south for everyone and had to be put back together nicely. The bad guy was WAY over the top and what he did would have never happened in the real world, he would have fled to save himself crazy or not.

I did like Jack and Finn together. Jack is pretty rock solid as a character.

I adore Law. Rainey is a pretty great sidekick as well.

Book three doesn’t sound appealing at all but since I love Law, I might have to read book four.

Joint Review with J9 at The Book Vixen

4 stars

J9: I adored book one of this series (my joint review with Brianna) so had very high expectations for this book two!

Crissy: Agreed. I’m a huge fan of Snowcroft and its inhabitants. I fell for the first book. Hard. So I was definitely looking forward to this one.

J9: A romance starts for me with the leads and Finn and Jack were wonderful leads with personal growth. Given that Jack isn’t “out” readers may expect him to have the most growth but I thought Finn did. At novel’s opening Finn had lost everyone close to him and had essentially accepted that he was dead man walking and only survived to bring his band’s killer to justice. So to watch him open up emotionally to Jack and his daughter, as well as friends like Law, was wonderful.

Crissy: I agree here too. I really liked Finn and Jack together. As individual characters, though, that’s where the real power was held in this story I think. Finn was heartbreaking in coming to accept his new life. There were times he made it clear that the only reason he was still alive was for revenge. The fact that he finds new reasons to live, to me, made this book what it is. Beautiful.

And when it comes to Jack. Well, the first thing that comes to mind is his heart. The guy would and did give up everything to make his daughter happy. His conflict and struggle were deeply hidden from the rest of the town and especially his family and friends, all but Trevor and Jamie, of course.

J9: Yes, they’re both strong characters that made me care about their happiness.

The relationship development between Finn and Jack was combustible but I could see the emotional pull too. This author writes the perfect blend of emotional and erotic intensity for me, which is a must-have in my romance!

Crissy: And add in the suspense angle of the mob trial and the whole reason Finn is “Finn”. The secrets not only added to the thrill of the storyline, but also to the tension between Jack and Finn. I really enjoyed that aspect – the not knowing.

J9: Yes, the plot has some great suspense. I have to also mention the stellar secondary characters here. Series readers like me will have already fallen in love with Law, Finn’s FBI bodyguard, but this book will make readers DEMAND his HEA!

Crissy: Ohmigod! Yes! I’m so head over heels for Law. He’s perfect and damaged in all the right ways. I’m looking forward to his story. It’s sure to be an emotional rollercoaster. I can hardly wait.

J9: Additionally, the secondary characters of the Snowcroft townspeople, from the aged band director to Jack’s former sister-in-law, are lovely characters. The leads from book one, Trevor and Jamie make a few appearances here which had me a little giddy. I love to see their interactions!

Crissy: And let’s not forget Kelsey. She’s the commonality that first brings Finn and Jack together. Plus all of her pre-teen actions killed me. She was spot on. And yes, Trevor and Jamie stole the scenes they were in, but then again, I expected nothing less.

J9: I do admit to a few issues however, one, the plot comes to a sudden and fierce conclusion very close to novel’s end. So much happens so quickly that it felt a tad rushed. Still that wasn’t a huge issue for me.

My largest issue is that Jack learns of Finn’s sexually adventurous past and feels inadequate, an utterly realistic reaction in my opinion. The big miss for me was that the leads didn’t discuss this. The plot forced a reconciliation instead of the two leads resolving the issue between them. I was disappointed because it felt like a missed opportunity for the leads to cement their emotional intimacy – such a good set-up but not the follow up.

Crissy: They skip over a lot in their relationship, I thought. Whereas, I liked them, sometimes I felt that all they had was that combustibility between them. The first time either of them mentioned the word love, I wondered where that had even come from. Because from my viewpoint, I saw just barely friends with benefits. I mean they were hot, but the level of personal connection felt glimpsed over.

And one thing that stuck out to me as odd was that everyone in Snowcroft seems to have some sort of connection to Texas – either they were born there or lived there at some point. The reason it caught me off guard was because Snowcroft is in New Mexico, which I know is next door, but still I found it strange how the New Mexican town appeared to be made up of Texans. Even the white van at the end had Texas plates.

One of my biggest issues, though, was the underdevelopment of the Jack’s conflict with Mande. We were told of this connection between them and how Mande wanted it, but besides the hug at the very beginning of the book and the fight, I didn’t see it. I expected more drama from that aspect. I wanted more drama there, but I didn’t get it.

J9: Yes, that’s true! I did notice that conflict set up but it just disappeared after one scene where Mande was so angry.

While I enjoyed book one more, this one was still an enjoyable romance and mystery. I can’t wait for book three in this strong series!

Crissy: I agree. I adored Finn and Jack’s story. It had it’s definite ups and downs, but it was a great combination of romance and suspense. I’m keeping an eye out for Law’s book and crossing my fingers that it will be number three.

Didn't feel connected to the characters at all, not to mention that multiple events were glossed over in favour of inane sex scenes.

4.5 Heart Review by Roberta

So, I was really excited when I saw this book come up for review. I read the first book and was really looking forward to reading the next book that came out. I’m really happy that I did.

Dex/Finn is this man whose life has been turned totally upside down in the last year. He was the lead singer for the band Black Rainbow. He was in a horrific fire that killed his band mates and injured him. He’s been under the protection of the US Marshal’s office and now under the protection of the FBI. Dex/Finn is going working as a band teacher, which I find cute as he’s done that before, taught children music. Dex/Finn has heard music in his head for as long as he can remember and he’s not heard it since the fire that killed his band mates. Dex/Finn has these reoccurring nightmares regarding what happens. Dex/Finn has been alone with his grief and heartache and yes, his wanting of revenge to the person who he holds responsible for this nightmare that his life has become. Dex/Finn is such a wonderful character. He’s this blend of sweet, sexy and sadness.

Jack…now we met Jack in the first Snowcoft book. He owns The Logger Bar and Grill. Jack has his own issues that need to be dealt with. Jack has regrets that he still allows to color his view on his life. He’s known he was gay all his life, however, he tried to not be that way as his family is not only conservative, but religious conservative and we know how that is going to go. Jack married his ex-wife because she got knocked up and even then…he knew it was wrong. That he couldn’t love her the way that she deserved to be loved. Jack’s daughter, Kelsey is another reason that Jack won’t come out. He doesn’t want her to have to deal with kids picking on her because her father is gay. Jack feels that he must make penance for marrying and divorcing his ex-wife. However, he knows that he wouldn’t have his Kelsey if he didn’t. Jack has those issues to face as well as what he’s going to do about Dex/Finn. This guy drives Jack crazy and he wants him so damn bad.

I have to say that we’ve got some great secondary characters happening in this book. We have Jamie and Trevor from the 1st Snowcroft book returning. We have Law returning as the FBI agent protecting Dex/Finn. Law…he still hurts my heart. To know his story from the first book and to see him a year later…he breaks my heart. I’m really glad that Law is going to get his own story. I just want the best for him so damn bad. Ugghh….I could go on about him and still never finish telling you what I want so badly for him. Mande…Jack’s ex-wife’s best friend who has the hots for Jack in the WORST Way!! Yeah, Jack should have nipped that Ish in the bud, but that shit has to happen in order for Jack to finally own his truth.

Now, there was some sexy time in this book and even when our MC’s got together for the first time….you could feel the electricity flowing between these guys. It was never just thrown in as filler. The intimate scenes were always there to show the flow as well as the growth of our characters into lovers. I enjoyed every hot minute and you will too!!

Now, the baddie, Frederick, in this story…you have him reference and you know that he’s a bad guy and his screen time…yeah…that Jerk proves he’s a bad guy as well as an AWFUL human being. I have to say that he made me sick with his anger issues and how far off the deep end he went. He is the ex of the bassist, Michael and he’s such a horrible person that I can say he had NO redeeming qualities bout him.

This was such a thrilling book that I really didn’t want to work. I had a hard time actually putting this book down and actually work. I wanted to see how these characters would grow and I wanted to see how everything would turn out. The climax of this story…Holy Hannah, peeps. I held my damn breath and my heart was pounding. It was GOOD. Violent….but good.

You HAVE to read this book. You won’t regret it. I will say that you don’t really need to read the first book, however, you’ll get a much better sense of the place and the people and you’ll get Law’s story and boy…trust me…have your damn tissues ready. This is really such a great story and with such wonderful characters that you get to watch grow and just be evolve as people.

It’s worth sitting down in your comfy chair and have a drink and a few tissues, as you’ll totally need them.

So, get ready to fall in love and be taken for a ride.

4.5 Stars

Wow author Christi Snow blew me out of the water with Snowcroft Safehouse! A rock star on the run and in witness protection following an incident that took the lives of his other three band members is sent to a small town in New Mexico to be a junior high band teacher. From the first chapter until the last I simply could not put this book down and yes, this is a M/M romance and a very good one but it is so much more. High energy and heart stopping one minute yet sweet and sexy the next I am sold on this author's work and can't wait to see what happens next in Snowcroft!

Even after a year Finn Alexander still wasn't sure how to live in his "new" life, he felt like a stranger to himself and it wasn't because he yearned for his rock and roll persona Declan "Dex" Jasper front man for the Black Rainbows it was because his bandmates and friends were all dead and he survived. It was because he no longer heard the music, it was because when he looked in the mirror he hardly recognized himself and it was because he felt sure once he testified even though remotely that once the world knew he was still alive a bounty would be placed on his head and sadly he was somewhat okay with that. Walking into the town's local bar and restaurant with his new "brother" FBI Agent Law "Alexander" Finn couldn't help but notice the hot bartender and the reaction he had to him something he hadn't felt in a year's time, sexual attraction.

Jack Walker couldn't help but notice the two strange men that walked into his place and while they were both handsome but the geeky, clean-cut, dark haired man made parts of his body stand up and take notice and sent his hormones into overdrive. He'd shut down that part of his life for so long he was use to ignoring it but there was something about the man that made his want to chance it for once in his life.

These two men had a tough road as Finn basically had to lie to Jack about every part of his life and Jack was not ready to be out of the closet and force the stigma of having a gay dad on his 12 year old daughter from a previous relationship. The time these two spent together was almost magical; Jack was very inexperienced but didn't let that get in his way of enjoying every bit of a physical relationship. Finn while extremely experienced had never had a two sided relationship with someone he felt "something" towards. Despite Finn's inability to be completely honest with Jack I did feel they got to know each other fairly well and the bond they formed was quite strong.

With Finn and Jack's relationship on the down-low and because of other issues they really didn't get to spend a whole lot of time together yet no matter what they were doing the other one was always on the other's mind and while their relationship was the focus of this story there was so much more happening. Finn and his protective agent and fake brother, Law (who had a brief but pivotal role in the first book of this series) became very close as the horrors of what they'd both lived through came to light during nightmares and PTSD flashbacks. I physically hurt for them as they fought their way from the darkness but in each other they found someone who understood their pain and could share their burden. Some of the scenes between them as they took care of each other were beautifully written and extremely touching. In addition watching Jack learning to deal with a pre-pubescent daughter and watching their relationship change as she discovers his secret life while dealing with some pretty big issues of her own was heart wrenching. Add in the suspense element as the world searches for the missing Dex Jasper and you have a story that was so satisfying on so many levels.

There's nothing I love more than a satisfying ending when two people have had to overcome so much to be together. Author Christi Snow has made me a fan with this installment in her Men of Snowcroft; remarkable characters, a rich plot and some super sexy M/M lovin' made this one amazing story.
