Grind by Kait Gamble
Book One in The Long Way Round series
Can Jason convince Cara to go from being lovers to something more?
Commitment phobic Cara Witchai loves her life the way it is—especially her no-strings-attached relationship with long-time lover Jason. But when Jason blurts out a marriage proposal, it throws Cara into a tailspin. How can Jason convince her to stay?
Cara, a successful restauranteur, prefers to be in charge of her life. She’s done a great job of it so far. She has a wonderful friend, a restaurant where customers need reservations months in advance to get a table and she has a man who fits into her life without taking over. She can get on with her life while still having fantastic sex and not have to worry about maintaining a relationship that will eventually fall apart. It’s bliss, as far as she’s concerned.
Jason has other ideas for his latest visit to see Cara. They’ve dated in the past, but after breaking up, their arrangement has evolved into a mutually satisfying meet every few months. They understand each other and are happy in and out of bed. However, neither has pushed for anything more. Jason wants to take things further, so he must convince Cara that they make the perfect couple.
His plan—use every weapon in his arsenal. Money, his command over her body. Whatever it takes.
Kait Gamble About the Author: Kait was born and raised in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest and started writing to entertain herself during the long winters as a child. Insatiably curious with a love of learning new things, she’s picked up many random skills including three languages and two martial arts. After travelling three continents (the other four are on her bucket list), she settled in England with her family where she spends most of her time cultivating her daughter’s love of reading and writing, scribbling ideas on every available scrap of paper, and trying out dialogue on her cat.
An inveterate traveller, Kait has set foot on three continents and has the other four on her bucket list (yes, even Antarctica). Until she can see them all, she writes romances that take readers to far flung locales, often to places she’s been or hopes to one day go. For now, she’s settled in England where she spends most of her time plotting, scribbling ideas on every available scrap of paper and trying out dialogue on her cat.
This book started out really sexy and hot, but then it sort of became confusing. I found myself wondering why there was any confusion. Sure, there was the fact that Cara wasn't sure she really wanted to be in a serious relationship with Jason, but then she would hang all over him and spend all this time with him like it was nothing.
It was a sweet story, but in the end there really wasn't all that much turmoil over either of their decisions.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Cara and Jason have had a no-strings relationship since college, but when he comes back this time, he has other plans. Will no nonsense Cara be able to go along with them? I've got to say, I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would for a few reasons. First, the writing was wonderful, this was easy to read and a lot of fun. Second, damn, the sex was scorching. I can see why they keep going back to each other! Third, I just loved the characters, they were relatable, and the situation made you sympathetic towards both Jason and Cara. Fourth, I love the name Cara :-) Anyway, I was actually expecting the book to have a little more angst, or resemble more work for the characters because of the title. Grind was surprisingly smooth, in a good way. I loved Jason's tactics, and he made me swoon with his energy and swagger. I will definitely come back to Kait Gamble for more.
I loved how Jason was there for Cara when she was sick. Jason also got Cara to realize some things in her life. This was a really good book and I liked her friend Chelsea and the antics of her two chefs. This was a really good beginning to the series. I will definitely read more by this author!
