Final Mission, Clean up the town, Redemption Story
"Called Back to the Gun" is a historical adventure novel of approximately 60,000 words. No cliffhangers, only pure unadulterated action.
Virgil rarely saw other people. He lived in his cabin in the mountains and only came to town to replenish supplies. He had once been a deputy in Cheyenne and in love with the sheriff's daughter, Belle. But her father didn't think he was what Belle deserved and asked him to leave. Virgil left, no goodbye or explanation. He became a bounty hunter for awhile and now he just wanted to be alone in his mountain hideaway. Belle decided she would forget about him and move on with her life. She became involved with Blue Cooper. She had doubts about him, but she told herself she could trust him. Her father wrote to Virgil asking him to come to Cheyenne to help with a problem. He came by train. He was surprised at how much Belle had changed. But he still loved her. He always had. She was involved with a man, Blue Cooper. He had involved her in a whole new lifestyle of alcohol and drugs. She found him exciting and a little dangerous. Sheriff J.T. Davis, Virgil, and Booker (a Denver detective) began to plan a way to trap Blue and his gang. It was dangerous, and Virgil would be in the line of fire. The night before the planned ambush, he wrote out his will in case he died. He knew that was a definite possibility. The ambush was described so intensely. And Virgil and Belle trying again was great. The plot was great, and the characters were real. It's a great book.
Virgil Ellis, a former bounty hunter turned deputy under Sheriff J.T. Davis, found himself entangled in a passionate romance with the sheriff's daughter, Belle. Concerned about Virgil's tumultuous past potentially endangering his daughter, J.T. demanded Virgil leave town. Years later, a desperate letter from the sheriff reveals Belle's perilous situation, prompting Virgil to immediately ride back to her aid. Together, Virgil and J.T. confront a ruthless gang of outlaws plotting a stagecoach robbery. Through skill, determination, and teamwork, they successfully thwart the criminals' nefarious plans, ultimately protecting Belle and the town from imminent danger. This was not my favorite story from Mr. colt which is why I gave it 3 stars.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat! Loved the suspense and the underlying love shared by Belle and Virgil! So happy everything worked out and gave us all a happy ending! Once again good triumphed over evil!! Looking forward to reading another book by this author!!
