Crossroads #1

Among Monsters

Rate this book
Feared... misunderstood.

Some wounds never heal, some shadows never leave.

Her mother’s brutal death has never stopped following her.

Reine Moreau has always lived under suspicion. Berserker. Wilding. Her mixed bloodline feared as much as it is despised.

Stripped of her Alpha status and cast out from her pack, she is forced to New York—where the Apex rules with merciless authority—a man as irresistible as he is dangerous.

With her loyal Beta at her side, Reine must navigate fragile alliances, rivals, and unexpected friendships as she’s pulled into the city’s shadows. A string of murders, a missing girl, and dark mysteries lead her into a world where monsters wear many faces.

Monsters she can face. Battles she can win.

But the Apex’s rare gentleness terrifies her in ways no enemy ever has. If she allows her guard to drop, she may lose the one thing she’s always trusted—her own armor.

I’ll start by admitting I’m completely biased because I'm friends with the author, but even if I wasn’t, this would still be such a lovely read, and I’d be shouting about it just the same. The world inside these pages is rich with magic: vampires, werewolves, fae, witches, and so much more.

At the heart of it all is Reine, one of the strongest female characters I’ve come across. She’s not only powerful, but smart, kind, and gloriously sarcastic (which I personally adore). Watching her navigate challenges, solve mysteries, and grow through each adventure was genuinely satisfying.

And then there’s the romance, very much a slow burn, sometimes painfully slow, but that’s exactly what makes it so good. It allows the relationship to build naturally, with depth and intention.

I’m incredibly proud of this book and of the person who wrote it, and I can’t recommend it enough. 💫

This book has all the elements for being a great urban fantasy novel. While it has a mystery-driven plot, a slow-burn romance, and diverse characters, the story keeps the tone balanced and engaging.
The main character navigates a world of shapeshifters, vampires, and fae, among friends and enemies. It’s a promising start to the Crossroads series for fans of modern fantasy.
