As the world falls apart, one woman must do whatever it takes to protect her family…
Fleeing a devastated California, Claire and her family secure passage aboard a ferry bound for the safe haven of Seattle, Washington. But conditions on the boat are little better than the chaos they are running from. Desperate souls, dwindling supplies, and over-zealous National Guard troops form a powder keg that threatens to ignite in violence at any moment.
But heavy handed soldiers are nothing compared to the danger lurking in the shadows. Hired by the wealthy and ruthless Hartley family, the sinister mercenary known as The Architect has one retrieve Lydia and her unborn child and return them to the family.
When a raging storm separates the group, Claire fears the worst for Lydia. Because if the Hartley’s manage to get their claws on her, she may truly be out of reach.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
Before the world experienced an EMP, Lydia was a surrogate for the Hartley family—one of the most powerful, affluent, and merciless families in the nation. This family employs elite mercenaries to hunt her down, declaring that retrieving the unborn child is their main goal, while Lydia's survival is merely a secondary concern.
Claire, Lydia, and their family flee a devastated California on a ferry bound for Seattle. As disasters pile up, the boat begins to disintegrate, and their supplies are rapidly depleting. Anxiety grows among the passengers about food scarcity, leading some to take or steal provisions.
A fierce storm eventually tears the group apart, thrusting Claire into a frantic struggle to protect her family. After the tempest, Claire finds herself separated from her family, with Lydia in danger after being captured by The Assistant. The storm serves as a diversion, allowing The Assistant to seize Lydia without her family’s awareness.
Unbeknownst to The Assistant, she underestimates the Taylor family she is entangling with. Claire is resourceful and determined to do whatever it takes to rescue her sister.
Meanwhile, Alejandro remains behind to care for Rob and ensure Bobby's safety while Claire embarks on a solo mission to locate The Assistant and Lydia—hoping to reclaim her sister before she is handed over to the Hartley family.
After The Storm is a fantastic continuation of the Survivors of the New Dawn trilogy by Grace Hamilton. The narrative is skillfully crafted and captivated me from the very first page. The characters and the universe established in Survivors of the New Dawn will linger in my mind for a long time. They all feel like family, as if you’ve known them forever.
I can’t get enough of tales like After The Storm and wholeheartedly recommend it to all fans of post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction! Be sure to grab a copy of After The Storm today for another enthralling survival adventure!
After the Storm is Book 3 in the Survivors if the New Dawn by Grace Hamilton. I think that each book shows how Clair is working hard to keep her family safe. The story is set in USA, BUT, this is not the America I know. The world is falling apart. The states are becoming independent rather than a part of America. There is a mercenary, The Architect, causing problems. After the Storm is a thrilling story and should be on everyone's TBR list. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
I do love this genre and this author is one if my favourites. I cant believe that she comez up with new stories and how it works to keep me fully engaged. The surrogate story is interesting and how it plays out. I am never bored when reading her books
