Moby: A Whale Shifter Romance

Rate this book
Darla is desperate to escape her overbearing parents on their Hawaiian vacation. Who could have expected a whale to swim up beside her on a boating excursion and become her closest confidant? There is something about the whale's soulful gray eyes and powerful demeanor that she finds intriguing, but alas, she must return to shore with the rest of the humans. Later that evening, however, when a seven-foot-tall man with an odd dialect approaches Darla on the beach, there is something strangely familiar about him...

Moby never intended to utilize his power to shift from a whale to a human. Until he met Darla, that is. The little human with the melodic voice and a body that grips him with sensual urges. Urges he has now come to land to fulfill—and fulfill them he will. But when Moby is harpooned by love, he must confess his true identity to Darla...and even worse, that his time on land is limited. Unless Moby and Darla can together break a decade-old curse...and keep him human forever.

OMG Jessa Kane does what Jessa Kane does best – makes me laugh while reading kinky stuff. Crossing species lines is definitely something new for her… and I loved it!
He's a miracle. A big, beautiful miracle who claims me in front of everyone. Women all over the world search decades for a man who’ll make that kind of commitment. If anything, my boyfriend is over-committed to me.

Darla (18, virgin, human) can’t relate to anyone, including her family – so it’s no surprise when they take her on vacation to Hawaii, aka the scene of her jet ski accident a few years ago.
On top of that, he is gorgeous. Not in a classically handsome kind of way. In an ancient, murderous barbarian kind of way.

Moby (really fucking old, whale) is just cruising through the ocean when he finds himself drawn to a human girl. He obviously wants to mate with her, and it just so happens a curse by a sea witch will help him out with that.
“Perhaps you need a Daddy for some things. Like keeping away unworthy boys and making sure this little mouth gets kissed right.”

Adorable and hilarious stuff happens and then – Leaping lionfish – we have ourselves an HEA!!!

I laughed so much during this. You know by now that JK is completely OTT in everything she does and if you’re not here for it, go swim in someone else’s ocean!

I loved every second of this cute little smut fest! Damn, I’m still laughing!

YES!!!!!
You ever have a sixth sense about a book before you read it? Like you're excited to read and anxious to know the story? Like you just know you're going to love it? Well, that's how I felt about this book.. And I'm so happy to say that it did not disappoint me.. I LOVE this tale!

I've never read nor even heard of a Whale Shifter Romance. So this was my first. Ms. Jessa Kane broke my cherry into this trope and world beautifully, I must say.. This is the story of Moby and Darla. It's a brief tale with just 9 chapters and an epilogue, but once again, Ms. Kane packs a lot of story into such a small box. This is an awesome story.. One that I could not put down. And when I had to, I didn't stay away for long.

While reading this my heart was exhaling. I was laughing. I was turned on beyond belief, and I was SO SCARED of how this was gonna end and turn out for these two. You don't know how it will go until the end.

You've done it again Ms. Kane with such an original story.
Well fleshed out and interesting characters you can't help but to love and fall in love with.
I purchased this book after reading it through KU first.
At the time this review was posted, this book was free through KU or $1.99 to purchase.

“Moby” is the story of Darla and Moby.

Very sexy whale shifter romance with a giant hero with big oranges, a petite scarred heroine, a Cinderella-esque curse, loads of sex and dirty talk, minimal angst and a well bred hea.

Enjoyed it!

Someone splash me for I have passed from the land of the living because our queen Jessa Kane has ejected me out of the blue whale's blow hole and I will never be the same again.

The whale shifter novella is delightfully funny, hilariously unhinged and I whaleheartedly enjoyed it.

Also blue whales males will mate with multiple females and the fact our whale-hero ONLY wants our heroine goes against his very nature. You can't get more romantic than that.

Moby is available now on KU, it's a whale shifter turned daddy fantastical 88 page novella and I think everyone should experience it at least once.

It’s smut. Straight up as you can tell by the title. I’m not sure how to rate this. I mean I’m never 100% fair with my “reviews” which is more like my thoughts on a book so I can remember when I look back. It’s smut and fiction but like how did he manage to fit in her behind for her first time with no lube and over a foot long??? And like they didn’t shower afterward…. Am I not being a good reader for letting real life stuff like hygiene bother me? Lmao

pls find below a brief 853 words on *Moby: A Whale Shifter Romance*.

there is an exactly 0% chance that i could express my thoughts about this … novelette(?) while remaining spoiler-free. **you’ve been warned** - plentiful spoilers ahead.

we open the story with our main girl Darla (18F) on a boat. whale-watching to be specific on her family’s **annual** Hawaiian vacay. Darla is a Sad Girl™️ because her mother is trying to marry her off to Leonardo, the son of family friends, and is also *suggesting its time for her to start procreating*. like, what? #BADMOM. #SADGIRL.

so Darla is all by her lonesome, being a Sad Girl™️ when we get our meet-cute - girl sees whale, girl talks to whale, whale thinks *i must mate with her ripe, young human form*. classic meet-cute scenario, amirite? luckily for our whale pal, Moby (M - age unknown), he has been cursed(?) with the ability to become human (for only 24 hrs?) so he will have the opportunity to pursue his *painful lust* for the *ripe, young* Darla.

it should be noted that human Moby is very rapey and human Darla is very stupid, lacking in a sense of personal safety and also a virgin. did i mention she’s a virgin **and** she’s never been kissed? cause the book does. a whole bunch.

Darla meets naked Moby on the beach where she is intimidated by, and perhaps envious of, his World’s Largest™️ cock and balls. her stupid self agrees to wander off with this naked man, who is being totally creepy btw, because why not? after a brief chat in the ocean, they make their way to her hotel room where she **does not consent** to sexual activity. she just wants to cuddle, she doesn’t want to get naked but Moby doesn’t care bc he *must mate her*. all good though, bc after he sticks his finger in her butt (*her second breach*) she provides less than enthusiastic consent to him pounding his World’s Largest™️ cock into her Virginal Asshole™️, unprepped and bare, btw! bc virginal Darla doesn’t have a condom and whale-man Moby doesn’t have a condom and anyway, they probably don’t make condoms big enough.

during this encounter Darla discovers her clitoris, experiences an earth-shattering orgasm and then proceeds to black out because she has been so thoroughly fucked. oh no! Moby thinks she’s dead and he killed her. how will he possibly go on? don’t worry *Daddy,* your *pretty baby* is just fine. (have i not mentioned the *Daddy*-thing?)

Darla is torn away from Moby by familial obligations but that doesn’t last long because Moby flies into a jealous rage, challenging the pipsqueak Leonardo to a swimming contest. i wonder who wins? he then introduces himself to her parents as her mate.

Darla figures out that Moby is the whale she met bc how could she not - they have the same beautiful grey eyes, and he tells her all about his curse. and then they get back to fucking.

after more fucking, they go to cure Darla’s crippling anxiety around jet skis through immersion therapy. bc Darla has a Tragic Backstory™️ involving a jet ski crash where she almost lost her leg. they fuck on said jet ski in a little beach cove *without life jackets*! it should be noted that this whole time (except when they’re fucking) 7’ tall Moby is wandering around in some sort of skirt fashioned from two towels? bc he is Too Big™️ for just one.

but lo, Moby’s 24 hrs in human form have come to a close and the curse has not been broken. just after he turns back into a whale Darla utters the magical “i love you” moments too late. don’t worry - they summon the sea witch and their love convinces her to change him back. they ride off into the metaphorical sunset.

and they live happily ever after, in a house the whale-man built with their two (i can only assume giant) children. the end.

the language choices are the cringiest i have ever read. i cringed no less than 116 times while reading.* i would get it more if the strange language was confined to his POV bc whale-man but our sweet virginal Darla says lots of weird stuff too. please find below a selection of some of the real winners found in this one:

repeated use of mate/mating, “spew”, “supple buns”, “secret crevice”, repeated use of “breach” for her holes (honestly, this one i get, in context), “my pucker”, “sweet juice from your front breach”, Moby’s use of “Jesus” in exclamation - i didn’t know whales subscribed to Christianity, repeated use of hole/holes, “turgid mast of flesh”, repeated use of the phrase “milky white” as a euphemism for semen, Darla’s repeated use of “tummy”, and so many more.

is this more recap than review? perhaps. but i think i’ve injected enough opinion to legally call it a review.

i will have to sample another shifter romance to find out if my problem was *this book* or the genre in general. i shall report back with the results.

thank you for coming to my TED talk.

*actual figure calculated for science.

A whale of a time was had

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Moby by Jessica — A Whale Shifter Romance
A review for readers who embrace the weird with pride

I adore a book that refuses to behave, and Moby absolutely leans into its own delightful nonsense.

The story kicks off with the heroine on a yacht with her family, doing the wholesome, normal thing: whale watching. And then because this book is unhinged in the best way she locks eyes with a whale. A whale who is, inconveniently and hilariously, also a man. A cursed shifter. A very attractive one, apparently, because she’s immediately like, “Wait… why is this whale fine?”

From there, the book becomes a perfect blend of chaos and charm. It’s funny in that “I cannot believe this is happening but I’m fully invested” way. I laughed through so many scenes because the author knows exactly what kind of story she’s telling and commits to it with zero shame.

And the wild part? The plot actually holds up. Beneath the absurdity, there’s a surprisingly solid romance arc, some heartfelt beats, and a hero who is both ridiculous and endearing.

Spice level 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️: absolutely present. But you need a sense of humor to enjoy it, because this book is not pretending to be normal. It’s silly, it’s bold, it’s self‑aware, and it’s for readers who love their romance a little strange and a lot entertaining.

In short:
If you enjoy monster romance that makes you laugh, blush, and question your life choices in the best way, this one is a ride.

When soulmates collide

Hilarious take on The Little Mermaid/Beauty and the Beast.
Moby is a whale in human form, looking to meet his soulmate. His search on land is a thing of joy. I laughed a lot.
A star knocked off for spitting which I can't get my head around.
Such a fun read.

This one is certainly different, but good.

This is the first shifter book I have ever read from JK. The premise was unusual, but the story was hot as hell. I loved the passion and fire between Moby and Darla. Another winner from JK.

DNF @ 9%.

im sorry but i can't 🙈

ive been wanting JK to write a fantasy novella for many years, but this wasn't it for me.

the interaction between the hero in whale form and the heroine was so painful to read 😭

the whale was smirking??? and the heroine noticed things about the whale that were ridiculous.
"he seemed to disagree with me". what?? how would you notice that? he's a whale!!!

and the whale was checking her out, looking at her body, while the heroine was thinking that he must be the most attractive whale ever, because he looks so powerful and smirks 😭😭😭
idk if im ever gonna recover. i have to go lie down.
