He never wanted a family. She never planned to fall for her neighbor. One baby changes everything.
Dr. Jordan Hadley lives for his work, and keeps the rest of his life at arm’s length. But when a sudden tragedy leaves him caring for his infant nephew, and the carefully controlled world he’s built begins to unravel around him…
Alexa Costello is a single mom barely holding it together. Between job rejections, overdue bills, and a son who deserves more than she can give, the last thing she needs is a new job… especially one working for the brooding, irresistible doctor next door.
What starts as a temporary arrangement turns into late nights, shared laughter, and a makeshift family neither of them saw coming. But when fear, boundaries, and old wounds get in the way, Jordan must decide what matters his career, or the love growing right at home.
I wanted to love this. I love the premise, but I felt nothing with these two. There’s zero passion, attraction, or even chemistry. All we get is a kiss in the last chapter after each character gives up on the other after one failed connection. I mean how immature do you have to be to decide to move across town cause one dude you’ve known 3 weeks rejected you? The entire book takes place in a 5 week time span in which they fall in love without having ever touched the other. I’m not saying a book needs spice to be romantic, but man it needs more than what these two have. But other than the romance being lackluster, the other characters were great. Loved ash, though the scene with the bullies was weird. It never comes back up even though we get a name for one as if it means something. There was too many ideas and none of them fleshed out. And normally I wouldn’t review a book I didn’t like, but I see so much potential that I wanted to drop my two cents.

I do love Holly’s books and this one was no exception. For me it was just the right length, Holly doesn’t put in any unnecessary angst or leave things hanging too long, but there are plenty of ups, downs and emotional moments which all adds to the story. Jordon is a top Dr and a complete workaholic, he had a difficult upbringing which has made him wary of relationships. When his sister has a devastating accident Jordon suddenly becomes carer for his 6 month old nephew Henry, who by the way is adorable. Alexa lives next door, single mum to 10 year old Ash, who is such a little sweetheart. Alexa also had a difficult start in life and then got left alone with her son to bring up, which she has done brilliantly. Jordon and Alexa have lived next door to each other for 6 years barely seeing each other and certainly no conversations. In his panic and despair Jordon turns to Alexa for help. I spoil the plot but just to say you will love the HEA and fall in love with the characters. Well done Holly, beautiful story ❤️
The title doesn’t really fit the story, because Jordan doesn’t accidentally become a daddy. Instead, he has custody of his nephew because his sister is in a coma. Jordan and Alexa really found each other at the right time. Alexa is a single mother to a nine year old and is currently looking for a job. After she sees Jordan struggling with baby Henry, she goes over, introduces herself, and offers to help. Jordan is so impressed by her that he offers her a job.
There is a strong sense of familiarity and comfort between the two of them, and I really enjoyed seeing both of them slowly become more vulnerable with each other. That part was beautifully written. However, Jordan’s behavior later on was really awful. And the way his actions affected Alexa was simply unfair to her. Overall, there isn’t really much romance between the two of them. There is tension, and there is definitely a warm, familiar, almost family like feeling, but apart from the kiss at the very end, there wasn’t much romantic development at all. For a romance novel, I simply felt like the romance was missing.
I enjoyed this book, I really connected with both the characters. I loved at the beginning how Jordan was struggling with Henry but knew he needed help and asked Alexa for help. Without giving away the story, I could really feel the emotions Alexa had, all the struggles a single mom goes through, questioning if she is enough.
The storyline was really good. What was lacking was the connection between the mcs. Not sure if it was because this book was so short or if the writing was too shallow. On to the next read
