Magic was outlawed for Five Hundred Years. Kadaris is starting to understand why.
Newly embedded among Canowin’s student mages, Kadaris is desperate to prove she belongs—before her rivals decide she doesn’t. But her real problem is the relic she never should have an ancient scepter that can amplify power… and attract the kind of attention that gets mages hunted.
Fern has her own war to fight. Once trained as a shadow dancer, she’s now sworn to protect the da’har—and someone has already slipped an assassin inside the castle. While the court argues about whether magic is a threat or a necessity, Fern follows the evidence into dark missing ledgers, silenced witnesses, and whispers that anti-mage zeal is turning into a purge.
When Kadaris comes to Fern for help, neither of them is ready for what an alliance will cost. One is hiding forbidden power. The other is hunting a conspiracy that could shatter the realm. Together, they’ll have to choose who to trust—because if Kadaris loses control, and Fern fails to expose the enemy, Finoren won’t survive what comes next.
ERRANT MAGE is an epic fantasy of forbidden magic, court intrigue, and reluctant allies.
The royal family in Finoren is searching for answers. The plots against them seem to be coming from both mages and their own nobles. Fern has made herself indispensable now to the queen and her family and is sent off to gather info – and maybe even stop a way. In the meantime, Kadaris is trying to show her value and increase her profile with the mages. What could go wrong? We see Kadaris continue to develop and expand her presence. This book is great because we see Fern grow as well. Formerly “just” a courtesan from a major city, she is looking to form her own destiny.
Fern and Kadaris are back and so is all the drama. Between court trouble for poor Fern and school trouble for poor Kadaris, the intrigue kept things in flux and them on their toes. But once they get back together things get even more wild and the story fun. A few twists also make things fun for me too. Plus all the mage trouble in the realms is concerning for everyone.
Lots of Excitement The story is full of excitement and drama. Fern and Kadaris are wonderful characters - full of depth and personality. The drama surrounding the court is captivating and dramatic. There are lots of twists and turns that keep the story fresh and interesting. Highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thoroughly enjoyed Fern and Kadaris’ continuing adventures, and watching them grow. There are twists and turns aplenty! Note there are a few instances of swearing - usually the D word. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
So-so Slow and a lot of court drama across the various realms. Kadaris seems to lose focus as she has too many things going on. Fern is kept busy protecting the da'har or spying for her brother.
