Because love isn’t just worth fighting for. It’s worth changing for.
Lynise writes sports romance with heart, heat, and a whole lot of banter. She’s the author behind the Gods of Campus series, where college athletes collide with big emotions, bad decisions, and the kind of love that doesn’t play fair.
She lives in Australia with her husband and three kids, juggling family life, full-time work, and late-night writing.
📚 What it’s about: Randy Harrison is the towns golden boy, star quarterback and recklessly charming playboy. A chance meeting with Rachel Summers knocks him off his feet, until a careless comment shatters everything. A comment Rachel wasn't meant to hear, a comment that was her worst fear as a single mum balancing motherhood and college. Can Randy prove he's more than his worst mistake? Is love worth fighting for, or better yet, changing for?
💭 My thoughts: I absolutely loved Randy in the first book of this series. He's such a golden retriever, effortlessly charismatic and loveable by everyone. Seeing him knocked off his feet by Rachel was honestly the best thing I've seen. I loved the found family vibes here, catching up with some of my favourite characters from book 1. As a single mum myself, I absolutely felt my heart break for Rachel when she overheard Randy's rant to Seth, my stomach dropped, it was an absolutely gut wrenching moment. Seeing him grovel and suffer though? Priceless. He deserved the silent treatment but I still couldn't find it in me to hate him. Seeing him with Sam made me so emotional, and the jerseys he got them? Stop ittttt... my ovaries are going into my overdrive over here. I am so excited for Seth's story, and I definitely am invested in Walsh's secret squirrel behaviour.

We return to the Gods Of Campus series with Crown Of Campus. There is nothing better than a college football series with a fabulous cast of friends who truly have each other’s backs no matter the circumstances. Randy the star quarterback who is player on and off the field falls for Rachel a single mum whose life is her son Sam. After an overheard conversation their relationship ends and Randy has to fight for Rachel. Loved the friendship groups, the banter and of course the found family aspect as well as all the returning friends we met in book one. I can’t wait for the rest of the series. I received a complementary copy.
“I don’t hide the fact that I have a son to anyone, nor do I act ashamed ,because I’m not. He is by far the best thing in my life.”
Crown of Campus is so sweet, cute, funny, and slightly spicy. It was such a fun and easy read for sure.
I absolutely loved Rachel !! She and her girlfriends were definitely my favorite characters. Rachel is sweet, honest, and a damn good mother. I loved that even though she had an amazing support system at home, she’s young, and in college, she always puts her son first no matter what.
Randy Randy Randy LOL what can i say about the beloved football quarterback. He’s charming, handsome ( definitely knows he is), and really talented. I loved him so much, until he started to panic and was talking out of his ass ! HOW DARE HE REFER TO SWEET SAM AS BAGGAGE ! I understand that he was freaking out, but there were better ways to talk about the situation. Even though it doesn’t excuse or make up for it, I am so glad that he regretted it and corrected himself the moment he said it.
ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOVED the groveling !!
“That’s right — my girl, my jersey. Our boy — our jersey. And one day, when you marry me, his shirt will just say Harrison too.”
I was going to give this a 4 ⭐️ But no, I have to give it a 5 ⭐️ read 😍
This is the second book of the Gods of Campus series 💜🤍
Randy Harrison; a quarterback, plays for the Raptors, a college student and a playboy meets Rachel Summers; single mom of little Sam and who attends the same college — from strangers to lovers is what I pictured it.
After her car breaks down fate brought them together which developed into something more ❤️🔥
Until one comment left her wondering if she’s just one of the girls. This became an obstacle for the both of them. It required a lot of trust, loyalty and commitment.
Reading this felt like a rollercoaster, there was a lot of push and pull but the love and support from their friends and family is immaculate, I love how Lynise included Christian and Shelby in this and what their life is like now after the incident.
You can see a lot of growth between Rachel and Randy throughout the book and it made them stronger as a couple.
It really does take a village to raise a family and these bunch is a perfect example 😍
PS. Literally a jump scare when I read the first spicy scene LOL 🥵❤️🔥 wasn’t expecting to come so soon (no pun intended 🤣🤭)
Have to admit I am loving the Gods of Campus Series. Rachel and Randy's relationship was so easy to fall into.
While Rachel is a single mom, she still has her village of family and friends helping her with her son. So we get to see more of Rachel getting to be Rachel than focusing mainly on her been a mom, which is a change from the status quo that I really enjoyed. It allowed the relationships to really take center stage in the story.
Then of course you have Randy. Star Quaterback and, obviously, college playboy, that finds a girl that turns out to be THE girl and never let's go. Him never turning into an absolute jerk was so good. Yes, he screws up, but he's still a very lovable mmc and redeems himself.
The friendships / found family that Lynise is creating are so easy for fall in love with and I honestly can't wait to see who's books next!
“Our boy, our jersey. And one day, when you marry me, his shirt will just say Harrison too.”
This book had me hooked! What an absolute blast to read! These 2 characters- Randy and Rachel- were an absolute hoot together, their chemistry is sweet and loveable. Randy is a play boy, super charismatic, he was fun and cheeky and he was redeemable. Rachel is a single mum- don't be fooled by her cute exterior- she can be a protective mumma bear when poked, she's sensible, she's funny and she takes charge- I loved her!
Based in college football, this story was a roller-coaster- a fun and wild ride to read and just enjoy which was perfect for a bot so serious inbetween read, or a competitive sports romances- this is ideal.
And I hate to admit it, but I loved this book more than the first (my own personal opinion)
* 1 minor little issue I had was the minor celebrating of australia day, could have done without that.
I was lucky enough to be chosen to read this as an arc, and the following review is my own thoughts and opinions.
This was one of my anticipated reads for 2026, I read Running Play and absolutely loved it, and guess what Lynise had done it again! This is an American college football romance following Randy and Rachel and it is spicy, emotional and everything I could have wanted for Randy!!
While being an interconnected series following the Raptors football team, but there's a good mix of characters, enough to tease you into wanting more of each player.
I am absolutely hooked with this series I am obsessed with the writing, the characters, and I will recommend this to anyone who will listen!
This is a story about redemption, and by the end of it I totally had tears in my eyes! Rachel, our FMC, is so strong as a young single mother trying to get a college degree. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect her son Sam and her own heart, but that comes to a screeching halt when her car breaks down and none other than the star quarterback of the football team pulls over to give her a hand. Randy has it all, the girls, the popularity and fame, but it starts to mean less and less as he spends time with Rachel. I love the way these two came together so organically, the chemistry was instantaneous and undeniable. Sam is an absolute stud and so stinking cute I just want to wrap him up in a tight hug. This book explores single parenting, college life, heartbreak, navigating relationships and forgiveness and so much more. I love the way this author always seems to tie more serious themes into her book. Plus, im always going to love a reformed playboy storyline! This was a great sequel to her first book (Running Play) and I can’t wait to see what she does next.. *hopefully Seth’s story*
Crown of Campus follows playboy Randy, Mr. QB, Mr. I can have anyone I want & Rachel a single mother just trying to finish college. She's got great support from her parents.
This college sports romance is an easy read with a slight conflict about half way through. Randy must show he is changed and that Rachel and her son are what he wants in his future. Randy and his team mates have the full on found family vibes all the while including Rachel and her son.
One misspoken word and Rachel is ready to walk away from Randy.. The man has to do some serious groveling to get her back. He shows her he can be the man she needs for her and her son.
Thank you to Grey's Promos and the author for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly thank you to Grey's Promotions & Lynise Reid for this advance copy of Crown Of Campus, I have been excited for book 2 since reading 'Running Play' 🔥
4.5 ⭐
I absolutely love this book, it was sweet, heartwarming, funny with a bit of spice 🥰 I binge read it so fast I couldn't put it down! 👌🏻 I love Randy the funny, charming, charisma he shows had me laughing through it! I am a complete sucker for sports romance books & then the single mom trope meets college football golden boy.... need I say more 🔥 The dynamic of this found family through college makes me excited to see other character books (Cough* Seth* cough*) 🥰
Arc review: We start of the book with your typical college playboy, who has a very tender heart, Randy, and he suddenly sees the single mother, Rachel, whose car broke down. These two have instant sparks, and quickly realize the attraction they share with each other until, eventually, the spark turns into something more. This was such a fun, quick read. A very fast burn with a great humor and an hilarious found family. I loved Sam, he was adorable and I loved his bond with Randy. As well as all the secondary characters (each deserves their own book). So if you’re in a mood for fun, romantic and heartwarming stories this is the book for you! Also I NEED Walsh’s book!
This was definitely not as intense as the first one. However, Randy the star quarterback with all the right moves that could have any girl in school has he’s sights set on one. Rachel who has different priorities and has to grow up really fast.
These two are so such you into there world and it’s one you will won’t want to put down until the end. It’s does have its moments of stress but these two get an amazing HEA. I do look forward to reading the next chapter in these series. So many questions.
I enjoyed this ARC read thanks to Grey’s Promo. This was a sweet and emotional read from start to finish. The style of writing was really good. The comradery and friendships within this book was the best part! I absolutely loved seeing the healthy friendships and unlimited support. The main MCs are great together and the journey they take together is so good! The emotional journey was so well written.
I really enjoyed this book, 4/5 stars. Rachel and Randy's story is so sweet! Hot Quarterback and sexy single mum, this story has you hooked from the start.
I was lucky enough to receive this as an eARC after also early reviewing the first book. I adored Randy (even though I wished it had been Seth’s book) and Rachel so very much!! They were so cute and just clicked together for me!! I love seeing this friend group grow and branch out and I cannot wait for the next one!
Such a good read! Loved Randy and Rachel together, and little Sam too! The story is fast paced and interesting, with a good mix of characters (Shelby and her Aussie slang and traditions are a great addition). Loved the set up for book 3 as well. Thanks for the opportunity to ARC read for you.
Single mom College romance Football romance He falls first
Randy is your typical jock quarterback play boy until he meets Rachel! I loved that Rachel was a single mom.. this made the best storyline with the MMC character. The authors writing is great and I cannot wait for book 3!
Randy is the town golden child and the star Quarterback. Full of charisma and swagger, the typical playboy reputation. Rachel an amazing single mom to a little boy Sam. Sam is Rachel’s whole world and that leaves room for little else. Studying to be a nurse and her son takes up her whole life with zero complaints. And when these 2 meet the sparks fly. Im absolutely in love with the fact she never hides her motherhood from anyone but rather talks about it proudly with her whole chest. So when Rachel over hears Randy having a conversation that’s not so positive about her son she bolts rightfully so. Once Randy figures out what went wrong his grovelling begins. And he does it so well! This was such a sweeet book. I’m absolutely obsessed with this series so far. Can’t wait for more🖤🏈
Book 2 in the God's of Campus series and once again an absolutely amazing book 📖 by Lynise Reid ♥️
In this book we get to meet Randy Harrison, quarterback and campus play boy, until he meets Rachel Summers. She is a singel mom that is trying to get a balance between school and being a mom 😓
This book is well written and you as a reader gets hooked on the story 👏 And once again I giggled and kicked my legs like a little school girl 😂 They are so sweet and a absolutely fantastic book 📖
So if you like 👍 💜 College romance 🏈 Football romance 💜 Singel mom 🏈 Reform playboy 💜 Banter
This book is for you and I highly recommend it ❤️
I received an ARC and are leaving this review voluntarily 💜
Rachel is a single mother, working on her nursing degree. When her car breaks down, she is rescued by the College’s star quarterback. The last thing she expected was to get pulled into his orbit, and before she knows it, she’s finding herself spending every spare moment with him, and considering introducing him to her son. But when she walks in on a conversation she wasn’t meant to hear, it makes her question everything she believed, and wondering if she really could have been so wrong about him.
Randy is the life of every party, with a different girl in his bed every week. But when he finds Rachel on the side of the road, she manages to crack the mask he has always worn. Soon he finds himself thinking of her at every moment, and starting to envision what life could look like with her and her son. Until he makes a comment to his friend that sends everything crashing down. Now he has to decide what he really wants from his life, and hope that it’s not too late to get her back.
I received an early copy of this book from Grey’s Promotions and absolutely loved them! Randy was one of my favourite characters in the previous book, so I was so happy to get his story. He definitely needed someone to level him out, and Rachel was absolutely perfect for him! When she overheard his conversation with Seth, my stomach dropped, feeling for her (and him once he realized what happened). As much as it was painful for everyone, and I felt for Randy’s heartache, I think he deserved to get knocked down a few pegs, and don’t think they would have ended up where they did if he hadn’t had to grovel. The scene with the jerseys had me sobbing, it couldn’t have been any more perfect. As for the friends group, they added so much to the story, and while I have some theories, I can’t wait to learn Seth and Walsh’s secrets in the coming months.
one of those stories that sneaks up on you. You think you’re getting cocky quarterback energy, effortless charm, campus royalty vibes… and then suddenly you’re clutching your chest because the emotional payoff hits like a blindside tackle.
Randy Harrison starts as the golden boy you love to side-eye. Reckless. Charming. Used to winning. And when that careless comment happens? I wanted to throw my Kindle. But watching him fall from his pedestal and actually own the damage he caused was so satisfying. This wasn’t a grovel-lite moment. This was growth. Humbling. Hard-earned. The kind of redemption that feels real instead of convenient.
Rachel Summers is everything. Strong, guarded, juggling college and motherhood like a damn queen. She doesn’t fold. She doesn’t forget. She protects her future and her son with claws out, and I respected her so much for it. Her boundaries weren’t flimsy, and Randy had to earn every inch back into her life.
And Sam. My heart. Randy helping build a genuine bond with Sam while Rachel watched, hesitant but hopeful, was beautiful in a quiet, soul-healing way. No flashy gestures. Just consistency. Showing up. Proving he could be more than a mistake. Those moments absolutely melted me.
The romance burns slow and deep, full of regret, longing, and second chances that don’t come easy. This book understands that love isn’t just about chemistry. It’s about accountability. Change. Choosing to be better when it actually costs you something.
By the end, I was emotional, satisfied, and completely in love with this story. Crown of Campus isn’t just a redemption arc. It’s a reminder that the best love stories are built, not won. And Randy fighting for Rachel and Sam? That’s a crown he actually deserved. 🖤📚🏈
I truly enjoyed Randy and Rachel’s story and loved that it started where book one ended and we get to see how everyone is doing. Randy will have you laughing, swooning, and at times have you wanting to jump through the pages to knock some sense into him. Randy Harrison is charismatic, extroverted, a playboy and the star quarterback who rules campus. Rachel Summers is a young mom, trying to get through school, while raising her son Sam.
Randy and Rachel first meet, when he finds her stranded on the side of the road, waiting on a tow truck. Randy likes Rachel right from the start and they start spending time together. At first, Rachel is hesitant to go out with Randy because of his reputation and she also has her son to think about. As things become more serious between them, Rachel gets to know Randy’s friends and becomes close with Randy’s best friend Christian’s girlfriend Shelby. Rachel is thinking about introducing her son to Randy, until she hears Randy venting to his friend Seth and says something that upsets Rachel. Randy definitely puts his foot in his mouth and has some serious groveling to do. Eventually Randy gets his head on straight and really puts in effort to show Rachel he is serious about their relationship, including getting to know her son. Randy and Rachel’s son Sam were adorable together, and they will melt your heart. I was glad to see Randy find his person and fight to get his girl back because Randy and Rachel deserved their HEA. I love the found family that is forming with this friend group. I loved how Shelby and her friends welcomed Rachel into their friend group, and had her back the whole time.

📖 Crown of Campus by Lynise Reid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️.5 Genre: College / Football Romance
Tropes: 🤍 Single Mom 🏈 Football Romance 😏 Reformed Playboy 💛 Sweet Romance
Rachel’s car breaks down on the side of the road, and the person who stops to help her is none other than the town’s golden boy, Randy. Things between them start off well and feel easy—until Rachel overhears a conversation between Randy and his friend about her son, changing everything.
This book was an enjoyable, quick read that I finished in one sitting. It’s light and fun, and it gives a clear picture of how both characters live their lives. Rachel is a hardworking single mom, balancing school and motherhood, which leaves her with no time for college parties or distractions. Randy, on the other hand, is the classic quarterback—popular, carefree, and used to being surrounded by attention.
They couldn’t be more different, but when love hits, it hits. I really liked seeing Randy stop noticing the girls around him and focus solely on Rachel. Watching him change his ways and try to fit into her life was one of the sweeter parts of the story.
That said, the mistake he makes was genuinely hurtful to Rachel—and understandably so. I just wished there had been more groveling afterward and more depth to both characters. At times, I felt a little detached because their backgrounds weren’t explored much beyond how they were raised.
Even with that, this was still a fun, low-angst read with a sweet romance at its core.
Thank you Grey’s Promotions and Lynise Reid for the ARC. 💛📚
Randy is the star quarterback, a charming reckless classic play boy who totally didn't expect that meeting rachel and her adorable son sam was going to change his live so much. Oh my goodness this book was amazing,i enjoyed every single aspect of it. Randy and rachel story was just so cute, they're truly the most cutest couple ever but what was even more adorable was Sam, Rachel son. These two really clicked together, the perfect match. The writing was beautiful, it was an interesting, easy, fast paced story that kept me glued to my kindle until the very last moment, the side characters were so good and funny too i really enjoyed the relationship that both rachel and randy friends have. I loved randy from the very beginning he's such a golden retriever, he's funny, charming, hot and the sweetest man ever and he's deeply gone for rachel. I loved seeing the bond between him and sam it was so heartwarming. Rachel omg she's the sweetest woman, she's such a force of nature, and an incredible super mom and both her and sam deserve all the love in the world. If you're looking for a cute very heartwarming book crown of campus is what you're looking for you won't regret it!
I love a book that makes me kick my feet in joy and scream in anger. If there is a book that gives me all the feelings in my head as I read and in real life, I'm here for it.
Like I want to be mad at my husband for a moment while reading when I get mad at the mmc. Don't judge lol.
And let's be honest when Randy said what he said, I wanted to shake some sense into that boy and then kick him in the nutter butters just because I could. But he won my heart back just like he does for Rachel 🥰swooooon
Reformed Playboy Single Mom / Quarterback Found Family Football romance She falls first / he falls harder “No one but you” He gives her (and her son) his jersey
Another thing I loved about this book is Sam. Sam is adorable and seeing another side of the single mom trope is great. She’s not struggling she’s thriving and has a great support system who loves her and lifts her up. Too often it is not presented that way. So kudos to Reid for doing this trope up right!!!
Also this book set up beautifully for the next in the series. The little tid-bits at the end have me antsy for the next one. Poor Walsh, and awww Seth needs a hug. iykyk
10/10 I would suggest reading book 1, not only because it was amazing (which it was), but also because a lot is brought up that yes you can keep up with the story without the first book knowledge but it would really help.
I received an ARC book from the author and greys promotions and all thoughts above are my own.
“I have a son,” I say without hesitation. I don’t hide the fact that I have a son to anyone, nor do I act ashamed because… I’m not. He is by far the best thing in my life, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. Getting pregnant at sixteen wasn't exactly what I'd planned, and it took a while to get over the initial shock. But honestly, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Sam is my whole world.
“When do I get time to go to parties and pick up guys? I had a hot, very experienced quarterback in bed beside me, and I literally jumped at the chance to have a well overdue, not self-given, org*sm.”
Everything about this woman is bringing me pleasure. I can feel myself falling physically and emotionally for her. Now and into the New Year.
I love this series! Randy and Rachel have a chance encounter and from that first meeting Randy is gone for our girl Rachel and turns in his playboy card. Even with girls throwing themselves at him, Randy only has eyes for Rachel. This book had me so giddy and excited the entire time I read it. Either from the heat between Randy and Rachel, the banter between the friends group, or seeing Randy interact with Rachel’s son, I just loved it all! There is no unnecessary drama and the story progresses so smoothly. I need more now please!
Tropes: College Football Reformed Playboy Single Mom Golden Retriever MMC He Falls First Supportive Girl Group
I love a good college sports romance, and that's exactly what *Crown of Campus* delivers. The story features Randy Harrison, the star quarterback and golden boy of the college, who is completely blindsided when he meets Rachel Summers. Rachel is a fellow college student, but she is also a single mom to her four-year-old son, Sam.
I always enjoy books where the resident playboy meets a girl and is totally thrown off by her. Randy says something really dumb and hurtful—though it wasn’t meant for Rachel to hear—and as a result, she cuts ties with him. From there, he has to grovel, and oh boy, does he grovel.
Since this is book two in the *Kings of Campus* series, you also get to see the rest of the college friend group introduced in book one. It’s great to have that familiar friendship banter and camaraderie included in the story.
This is an easy, one-sitting read—perfect for fans of sports college romances—and I highly recommend it. I give it four stars and want to thank Lindsay Reed and Gray's Promo for this ARC. I also loved that Shelby is Australian, which added a nice touch for me as an Aussie reader, carrying over some aspects from the first book.
I’ve loved Randy since the very beginning of this series. He started out as the notorious playboy, so watching him fall hard for Rachel was incredibly satisfying. Rachel is genuinely the sweetest. I loved her immediately. She’s juggling college while also being a single mom. Being a teen mom wasn’t part of her plan, but Sam is the best thing that ever happened to her, and she never puts anything before him.
Seeing Randy interact with Sam was one of my favorite parts. Randy struggles with the reality of dating someone with a child and ends up saying something he instantly regrets, hurting Rachel in the process. But Randy isn’t someone who gives up easily. He owned his mistakes. He did the work to prove that he understood that Rachel and Sam are a package deal, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. It took some time, but they eventually found their way back to one another.
Single-mom romance ✔️ character growth ✔️ found family ✔️ friend group chats full of laughs and heart ✔️
There were big shoes to fill after Running Play but this delivered.
Picking up right where we left off, I was hooked from the start. I love this group of friends and all the mischief they get up to.
My heart... Randy now has it! From the moment he lay eyes on Rachel he was 1000% a goner. There were instant sparks and from there it took off. And the way he embraces Sam the moment they meet... My poor overies!
And Rachel. She guarded her heart, and why wouldn't she? She was a single mum with the playboy quarterback flashing his tanned abs at her... she had not only herself to look after, but her young son as well. The love and support her village showed her warmed my heart.
My favourite part is all the little aussie nods that get added in. You really can't play cricket on Australia Day without a drink in hand at all times, and vegemite is an aquired taste. You don't like it? More for me!!
This was fun and heartwarming full of banter. The group text chats always had me laughing.
Rachel, a single mom working towards becoming a nurse, runs into Randy, Star quarterback and ladies man, when he rescues her when her car breaks down.
The pair instantly hit it off despite their differences and things get hot and heavy fast, and are going great until Randy says probably the shittiest things ever about Rachel’s son.
That took the book from being just ok to nope, especially when Randy doesn’t grovel enough (in my opinion) and Rachel takes him back (which she shouldn’t have because best believe if anyone called my kid ‘baggage’ they would never see me again lol).
Thanks Grey’s Promotions for the arc though, even if this didn’t end up being for me.
