The year’s most surprising cliffhanger is in this comic! Discover Samantha Strong’s endgame in the penultimate issue of Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Rite of Spring. Samantha’s plans for Monica…and all of Woodbrook…are finally revealed!
forgot to log this earlier oops! but it’s another quickie installment
this one was unexpected. sam’s cover might be blown? and monica is still relentless in her pursuit. and as she should be! get some closure and justice to her missing brother from this trick ass bear shawty that’s got the whole town fooled into not thinking she’s a killer.
it’s insane how many people are just dying again. the art style sometimes makes me forget this is gruesome and about murder. we got the guy tripping down the stairs, sam shooting those cops, that random guy on the street? god!!
i know that the first book was about sam but now the focus is on monica entirely for me. i’m rooting for her hard as hell. i hated seeing her trust sam and let her take her out to the woods, but hey she was desperate, sam has seemed like a friend, and is just ultimately good at tricking people.
at first i thought this was the last installment but im glad it’s not, im really hoping for some closure in the next one.

Title: Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring Author: Patrick Horvath Volume: 5 of 6 Genre: horror, psychological thriller, crime fiction, dark, comedy and suspense Pages: 200 Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring Volume 5 pushing the story deeper into its unsettling blend of suburban calm and hidden violence. This volume builds on the escalating tension from earlier entries while bringing key emotional and narrative threads into sharper focus.
At this stage in the series, the “perfect” small-town illusion that once masked the darker reality has begun to fracture. Volume 4 left readers with mounting suspicion and unease as the central character’s double life became harder to contain. Volume 5: Rite of Spring takes that pressure and turns it into something more urgent and psychologically intense, as consequences begin to close in and the cracks in the community widen.
The plot in this volume focuses heavily on exposure and inevitability. Secrets that were carefully buried throughout the earlier volumes start resurfacing in unexpected ways, forcing characters to confront truths they can no longer avoid. The pacing feels tighter and more controlled than previous entries, reflecting the growing sense that events are spiraling toward a breaking point. Rather than relying on shock alone, the story builds tension through anticipation, making every interaction feel loaded with hidden meaning.
One of the strongest aspects of Volume 5 is how it deepens the psychological portrait of its central character. The contrast between outward normalcy and internal compulsion becomes even more pronounced, making the character both unsettling and strangely human. The writing does not offer easy moral framing; instead, it leans into ambiguity, forcing readers to sit with discomfort and uncertainty.
Visually, Horvath’s artwork continues to be a defining strength of the series. The clean, almost cheerful suburban aesthetic clashes sharply with the darker narrative undercurrents. This contrast is especially effective in Rite of Spring, where ordinary settings—parks, homes, school-like spaces—become stages for psychological tension. The use of color and composition subtly reinforces the feeling that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface of everyday life.
As a continuation of Volume 4, this installment feels like a turning point. Where earlier volumes built mystery and foundation, Volume 5 begins to demand resolution. The consequences of earlier choices are no longer abstract; they are actively shaping the present. It also sets up the final trajectory of the story by tightening the narrative focus and increasing the emotional stakes for what comes next.
Overall, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring Volume 5 is a gripping, unsettling continuation that strengthens the series’ psychological depth while pushing its central conflict closer to a breaking point. It balances quiet dread with narrative momentum, making it a standout entry in an already disturbing and compelling series.
"I had a good idea of how it was going to end, but I didn't really know how we were going to get there."
& just like that, everything comes together, literally.
"People will accept a lot of death if it's for money or politics."
Wow. I wasn't sure if I was going to be Team Sam or Team Monica, but reading this, I found myself rooting for Sam, & surprisingly, Woodbrook. I think the best version of Sam is the one in Woodbrook (what she does outside of Woodbrook to make herself happy vs everything she does in & for the community to create a cover story), & Monica took away everything Sam did to create that separation. If Monica hadn't come, no one would have known. But would Sam have grown bored & challenged herself in another way? Impossible to guess.
"There's a trap lying in plain sight for everyone to fall in...the precious notions of firsts & lasts. & there's almost no regard for the middle. So quick to lose these moments in the noise of our lives. But every part has a place in the story."
Absolutely one hundred percent obsessed with this dark murderous comic set among the idyllic backdrop of Woodbrook and features Samantha, the well-seeming bear daughter who took over her parent's corner hardware store but has a dark secret that she's been murdering people and burying them for YEARS.
In the Rite of Spring follow up (this is issue five of a planned six issue series) it's massively ridiculous that super fans have to wait because this one ended on an intense cliffhanger that can only be summed up as "burn it all down: the story of Samantha". Holy smokes, literally.
I am bowled over by the creativity and range of intensity and emotions this comic series brings out and the story movement and illustrations absolutely work hand in hand to create an epic story.
WOW, JUST ANOTHER AMAZING PART OF THIS FANTASTIC STORY!!!
Just a great way to leave us on the edge of out seats for the finale. I love this series. The 1st part and now the 2nd season or sequel whatever you wanna call it. Sometimes when something is soooo good you have to high expectations when they make a sequel or 2nd volume, but NOT IN THIS CASE!!!! I love how they've kept some of the same people while also going into different aspects of old but new things that are coming. Hands down a MUST READ!!!
Ok, I did not see the hardware store being rigged with shotguns coming! Underneath the fun horror story, though, is an important message that Horvath has been smartly and subtly developing throughout this second act, connecting Sam’s transformation to societal transformations. Is some idyll of a town untouched by modernity possible? Well, it’s seeded horror from the start.

So Sam's plans are culminating - the devious mastermind, and like anyone who's ever made a plan, it never goes right. Stumbling across unexpected persons, vehicular manslaughter, DUI car crashes and law enforcement confrontations - apparently almost all planned contingencies. And well you know what they say, kill it with...
Its getting wild and insane. I am very intrigued and memorized by Samanthas endgame here. Where is it all going to lead? I hope her story continues. This whole series has been a treat. Patrick Horvath is a hitter. Can't wait to see what he has in store for the future.
We’re getting a grand finale it seems. Samantha is ready to pain the town red (literally.) And we have front row seats. What will her last act of madness be? One can only wait and see.
Samantha is finally found out or did she self destruct? Either way she's not going down without a fight. This issue may be less gory than the earlier issues, but it may have the highest body count.
There’s a trap lying in plain sight for everyone to fall in, the precious notions of firsts and lasts. And there’s almost no regard for the middle. So quick to lose these moments win the noise of our lives. But every part has a place in the story. Every bit of it death-defying.”
Oh jeez! This was a wild issue! Everything starts crashing down. Tensions are at an all time high. And the cliffhanger has me wondering how mad she really is. Will she do it? Only one issue left!
