Immerse yourself in Stevie Nicks's incredible life to learn invaluable pearls of wisdom from this portrait of one of today’s most resilient music icons.

"Just dance. This will pass. Love will find a way. It always does."

Written by music journalist Rachel Brodsky and illustrated with gorgeous full-color line drawings, Lessons & Lace draws on Stevie’s remarkable story and notable quotes to inspire life-changing lessons, delivered with a unique style of truth-telling that's both down to earth and filled with otherworldly vision.

Today, Stevie Nicks is rock’s own Patron Saint of Lessons Learned, but in order to reach this point she had to endure a world that underestimated, misunderstood, dismissed, and mocked her. She battled sexist narratives, helped popularize a struggling mid-level rock band, became a successful solo act, and beat addiction, all while staying connected to her creativity, authenticity, and mysticism. Now, she is a universally beloved icon and mentor, but she didn’t get here without a lot of hard looks in the mirror.

Including years’ worth of archival interviews and insights from people in Stevie’s world, this is a tribute to a woman, style icon, prolific writer, and unapologetic romantic who chases happiness and values the space to honestly and authentically be herself. Through Stevie’s life and lessons, you’ll feel encouraged to embrace your own wild (and perhaps witchy) heart.

Blending biography, reflection, and artistic presentation, the book captures the essence of an artist whose journey has resonated across generations.

What makes this work especially engaging is its focus on extracting meaningful life lessons from Stevie Nicks’s experiences. From navigating industry challenges to overcoming personal struggles, the book highlights resilience, authenticity, and creative independence. These themes are presented in a way that feels both relatable and empowering.

The inclusion of archival insights and a visually appealing format adds depth to the reading experience. It goes beyond a traditional biography by offering readers not just a story, but a perspective one that encourages self-reflection and personal growth through the lens of a cultural icon.

More than just a biography, this book is a tribute to Stevie Nicks and a celebration of how her life and music have inspired thousands of women, including the author, to live as authentically as possible. The book chronicles Stevie’s life through a series of "Lessons," incorporating her story alongside interview excerpts, song lyrics, and more. At the same time, the author shares glimpses of her own life and personal connections to Stevie, recounting how she fell in love with the music while listening to it with her family and reflecting on the lessons found in the events of Stevie’s life.

I truly loved it; it is the perfect book for anyone wanting to learn about Stevie’s life or for those just beginning to discover her music. Plus, the book’s design is stunning, featuring illustrations, chapter details, and interior layouts that perfectly capture the aesthetic Stevie has cultivated throughout her career.

‎A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! 🦋

2.5 rounding down.

I had a hard time rating this one. I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks; her music is deeply tied to memories of my parents, and it always brings me a sense of comfort and happiness. Because of that, I was really excited going into this book, though I didn’t fully know what to expect.

What I found was a blend of biography, commentary on past interviews, and thematic “lessons” drawn from Stevie’s life. It’s an interesting concept in theory, and I can appreciate what the author was trying to do; however, in execution, it didn’t quite work for me. The structure felt scattered, with each chapter restarting the timeline in a way that made the narrative feel repetitive and disjointed. I often found myself struggling to stay engaged.

That said, it wasn’t without its positives. I did learn some new details about Stevie’s life, and I especially enjoyed the insights into the stories behind certain songs. Those moments stood out and will definitely add more depth to how I listen to her music going forward.

Overall, this wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t the right fit for me.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harmony Books for the digital copy of this book; I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’ve always been a fan of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks but not to the point where I researched and read a lot about this queen of popular music, even after seeing her perform live. Lessons & Lace is a biography of Nicks that does not pulls any punches, just like her.

This is not a straight-forward biography in chronological order. There’s a blend of commentary on interviews Nicks has given over the years, as well as lessons Stevie learned over the years. The result is mostly good, and the graphic illustrations throughout the book add a bit of “magic” to the overall themes of the book.

If you’re a super fan of Stevie Nicks, you probably won’t find anything new in Lessons & Lace. For readers like me, a more casual fan, I found the book very interesting. Some of the stories in the book remind me of the heavy lifting Stevie’s generation did in terms of equality for women (even though the woman did not vote until she was 70!)

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A truly interesting book. I have never been interested in Stevie Nicks before. I know the usual Fleetwood Mac songs – Rhiannon, landslide, go your own way, etc. Never really thought about Stevie on her own. This was changed by the author putting together a few life stories and a lot of interviews. this book was able to showcase some of what makes Stevie Nicks special. As shown in this book, what makes her special is not her velvet boots and shawls. That’s just what we see on the outside. What makes Stevie Nicks special is her openness, her creativity and her individuality. These are lessons we can all learn.

I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. This is a discussion on Stevie Nicks, her life, her work and her influences. There is a lot of biographical information along with excerpts from interviews, and discussion of her writing. There is a lot of information, and some personal thoughts from the author. It is a lot to digest. There are a number of drawings and pictures, showing interpretations of Stevie as a magical figure. I hope that there are actual photographs thay make it into the final book. The drawings are good, but actual photos would be better. The whole book reads to me as an essay, or a magazine article , that was stretched into a book. One of the best chapters was the last which talked about Stevie's influence on other , younger singers. I enjoyed the book, but really wish Stevie would sit down and write her own story. It is one that needs to be told.

Fun fact, my dad wanted to name me Stevie for her. Unfortunately I got stuck with Jennifer. Lame. LAME. I should change my name...anyway.

I was so, so excited to be contacted about this book and it did not disappoint. I loved the drawings and how everything was curated throughout the book. Could not put it down. Preorder for your own lessons. You won't regret it. ✨

This is basically a compilation of interviews from Stevie Nicks over the decades, interspersed here and there with some whimsical, colored drawings involving Stevie. Stevie's a great interview because she's a unique and interesting entertainment figure, and is quite open and honest with her musings. If you've watched a lot of interviews with Stevie or read some of her biographies (or of Fleetwood Mac) there won't be a lot of revelations. This would make a great digest read for someone to "get" the essence of Stevie in an easy-to-read format.

I grew up on Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, their songs were the soundtrack to my life. I was so excited to read this book and never wanted to put it down. I never knew anything about Stevie Nicks and I’m so glad I do now. She has lots of words of wisdom that I will think about often. I will also think of some of her songs differently which is not a bad thing.

Definitely a recommended read for those who are a fan of The White Witch. I learned some things I didn't know before and had a pretty enjoyable time reading it.
I think this was such an interesting read because even if these are stories that people have heard about Stevie Nicks before - it is framed as lessons to be learned of a wonderful, full life.

Wow! While not really a big fan of Stevie Nicks (nor Fleetwood Mac), I did grow up with her (& them) on the radio. This was certainly a lot more interesting than I had imagined. This was a book that was difficult for even someone like me to put down (finishing in 3 days). Definitely, an enjoyable read.

I'm a huge Stevie fan, so I was very excited to read this book! I loved reading about the meaning behind some of my favorite songs. She has definitely not lived a dull life, but lived by her own rules. The way she mentors the women coming up behind her is so refreshing. This book just reinforced my love of Stevie.
