Human Sacrifice

Rate this book
Adam Rivers is about to be sacrificed to the bloodthirsty dragons for the crime of not paying his debts. Instead of being eaten alive, he wakes up as he's being touched in the most wonderful way he can imagine. Someone he knows, someone familiar, is on top of him, loving him, and claims that Adam belongs to him. Adam, not knowing what is happening, but just happy to be alive, willingly gives in. His new lover is the very dragon who spirited him away.

Novik Gray claims to love and adore Adam, and that he will do anything to protect him. Adam recalls saving Novik's life ten years earlier, but is Novik simply confusing gratitude with love? All Adam knows is that he wants to stay by the man's side, but when a friend is put in danger, Adam will be forced to test just how much Novik truly claims to love him.

Another series about dragons? Bring it on. While the world these books are set in seems to be the same as in the ‘Dragons and Wolves’ books, the setup here is slightly different. These dragon shifters live underground not on mountains, they interact with humans in villages, who almost seem primitive compared to the ones previously encountered, but the references to the “Dragon Wars” about seventy years ago sound the same. Despite that, the feel I got in this book was much more one of the “medieval” kind of dragons who received sacrifices, and while the dragon shifters’ society here is not that backward, some of the rules in the humans’ village are positively copied straight from the Dark Ages. I think that is an interesting mix, and look forward to exploring this world in the books to come.

Adam lives in what sounds like a feudal society, has had a tough life having been born poor, and when he can’t pay his debts, he is turned over to the dragons to be eaten. What he finds when he wakes up is not at all what he expected, beginning with the fact he didn’t expect to wake up at all. His adjustment to being loved by the dragon whose life he saved ten years earlier takes a while, and there are some things Adam just cannot accept. His courage in standing up for what he thinks is right is considerable, but the outcome is quite different from what he experienced when he did the same thing in the human village, and it helps Adam adapt to his new situation.

Norvik is a dragon warrior, with the physical strength and mental self-confidence to be expected. He also has a particular weakness for Adam, and ever since the human saved him ten years ago, Norvik has known they mean more to each other than is traditionally accepted in dragon society. He fights for Adam to be by his side, to be accepted as much as possible (the dragons don’t hold humans in very high esteem), and wants nothing more than to love and protect him.

If you like stories about dragons and their interactions with humans, if you want to know more about two men who need to redefine their roles if they want to build a long-term relationship, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining and hot, then you will probably like this novella.

I Really did not care for this book. Like at all. But badly written bc obviously the author is majorly experienced however It was extremely boring! I don't think I've ever read a really boring book by this author but..WOW.. this one seriously fit the bill.
I'm not sure what it was exactly. I know one problem for me was there was no conflict between Adam and Novik. No hurdles in the relationship. No mating instinct. There were obviously a ton of opportunities for some conflict between the two. Like the fact that Adam was ripped from his life and thrust into a totally different world with different rules. Maybe the fact that he used to be in love with a woman. But for example it was just atypical in the realm of Matings like Novik not being jealous at all. He expressed no jealousy over Adam spending time with his BFF Jason or any insecurity over the fact that Adam used to be in love with a woman. I just think the book "coasted" and never really took off... never really pulled me in. I'm really disappointed for sure. I'm debating whether or not to continue with the series. Yea it was that bad.

2.5.....

I like the storyline and how the dragon MC fell in love for the HUman MC.... but I wanted to punch Jason (H-MC) and I felt like N had to have his words pulled out of him....

I think this book needs to have it edited to flow better....

Very dissapointed. I enjoy it the other series from this author. (DeWitt's Pack, Luna Werewolves, The Vampire District) But this book it makes me want to stop reeding this author and i will explain why:

First- How humans in this book are treated, they are SLAVES! And the author is traying to put this as a good thing! Slavery is NEVER a good thing. The humans are slaves for the dragons and the dragons are supposed to be the "good guys" but really??? What "good guys" keep slaves and take them their freedom?

Second: Adam! is actig more and more like 16 girl that is blinded by money. Now he has a welthy "Husband" and the hell with the rest. Now that is rich the freedom is not important. Is trying to make excuses for it with things like, now i have food and hot wather and money so what dose it matter that i'm not a free man or that my best friend is a slave??? He even have one momment in the book when is thinking about his best friend sister which is forced to marry an assole and basicaly raped that maybe is not that bad for her if her husban is whelthy. REALLYYYY?

Oh, in this book the slaves ar called "servants" but c'moon?! You serve the dragons all day, clean after them, cook and so on, you are not allowd to do anything other then that, You are not allowed to leave or to walk freely, you eat when they tell you, sleep when they tell you, you are not allowed to speak you opinion and they treet you like shit. And ofcourse you live in the lower part of that cave. Where is the FREEDOM? If this is not slavery i don't know what is it!

I just can't pass the fapt that the main caracters in this series treet humans like that. I mean they ar suppoed to be good people, well good dragons in this case.
And good people don't keep slaves in my opinion.

Adam and his best friend Jason are tied up to be sacrificed to the local dragons. There dragons come for them and Adam somehow wakes up in a comfortable bed being pleasured by a handsome man with familiar eyes. Thinking he was now a slave, Adam doesn’t question things. Afterward, Adam learns the man is a dragon that he saved from dying ten years ago, and that Novik wants him as his mate.

Novik has wanted Adam for ten years. When he sees Adam is to be sacrificed, he takes the chance to claim Adam as his own. Adam is not sure about being a mate of a dragon warrior at first but he is willing to learn. However, he does not get that he is an equal among the dragons now, even if some of the dragon disagree. Both Adam and Novik have adjustments they need to make so their mating works.

Marcy Jacks has another dragon series going. This one is different enough that I did not feel like I was reading the same series. The dragons are physically different for one, and a few other things. I enjoyed this different take on the dragons in this series. The writing was good as I except from Marcy. It was engaging and entertaining. The sex scenes were hot and not overly gratuitous. Both MCs are easy to like and made me want their mating to work.

The story does end a little open-ended so I look forward to reading more in the series. There are several secondary characters that I would be interested in reading more about.

I like the continuity in this series. It's not the one book one couple concept that doesn't get anywhere.
