If We Make It Through December

Rate this book
Eight years ago, Kris and Nick shared one unforgettable night—and a surprise that changed their lives forever.

Tied together by their love for their daughter, Holly, they’ve learned to keep things friendly, functional, and firmly in the past.

Okay, maybe not firmly.

When a termite infestation just a week before Christmas threatens to leave Kris and Holly homeless, Nick is quick to swoop in and save the day. Fresh off a breakup, Nick could use the company over the holidays, anyway.

Cozied up for the holidays, Kris and Nick play house—a little too well—and the carefully constructed boundaries they’ve held for a decade melt away between mugs of hot cocoa and even hotter tension.

What a fun novella! Loved dipping into Christmas vibes over the summer, and I had fun with this one. Kris, Nick, and Holly were such a fun family trio, and the side characters were fun, too!

There was lots of yearning, lots of cozy Christmas feels, and lots of tension. They both clearly want each other, but Kris is afraid of a repeated past and Nick can't very well force Kris to give him another chance. I found the little details and moments super sweet, especially with Nick's slight scheming to get Kris and Holly to stay with him longer. While there is a lot of back-and-forth, it seemed realistic, and I understood Kris' apprehension while appreciating that Nick was self-aware enough to know he messed up in the past.

Given that it's a novella, we don't get a tooooonnnn of background, but I did think we got an okay/good amount compared to lots of other novellas. I did want to know more about why they didn't work beyond just some repeated mentions of Nick not listening to Kris.

As someone who grew up with divorced parents (who unfortunately I never succeeded in Parent Trap-ping back together, though in hindsight know wouldn't have been fair to anyone involved), I really appreciated their co-parenting dynamic.

Overall, though, such a fun, quick, spicy romance novella that would be perfect for Christmas time or just a quick read any time of the year if you're like me and read out of season all the time!

I’m a sucker for a second chance no matter which way they arrive and this did not disappoint!
Festive, flirty and full of emotion in a novella? Perfect!
Annie can write a novella like a full length novel! After discovering her back in the summer I was itching for more from this series!
Kris & Nick have the all consuming chemistry that even a divorce and time couldn’t sever. I loved their coparent relationship and their dynamic. Holly was a seriously lucky kid to have parents that honour tradition and love with their entire being. 💖

All the Boots in the Berks novellas are the perfect, most adorable second-chance romances. I loved every character, and I love how real they feel, even though you only get to know them for about 100 pages. Annie Forrest just manages to make every character feel so human and makes you fall in love with them instantly.

"If We Make It Through December" is a super cute Christmas novella.

I don't normally gravitate towards second-chance romance novels, but I can honestly say this story was easy to enjoy, relatable, and worth reading.

The spice was nice - fit the story and was not too over the top. The story is a novella, so it's a quick read, but the timeline and the setting work so well together.

Annie Forrest will now be an author I will pick up future works from.
