I fear this one wasn’t for me. The main POV from Tamara was tiresome, and every chapter didn’t need a version of “all she knew is that she’d never be the same, dun dun dun. As soon as the main course was served, I immediately knew they were eating the deceased/missing guest. Cool concept, but could have been pushed further.

A suspenseful thriller that keeps you wondering and keeps you guessing, not only about what’s going on but also about the dynamics between the characters. It is a slow burner (but with short chapters) that really dives into the psychology of the characters. The language is rich, poetic and truly captures the emotions of fear. I really loved the power dynamics between the main characters and their analytical nature.
When it comes to the story, it is an intriguing story of a tense dinner party between acquaintances, where the guests by the end of the night will wish they had never showed up! It is not necessarily a twisty story, but it includes suspense and dark themes fit for those well versed in the thriller genre.

Simon Locke hosting a party and Tamara,his assistant is helping him to make sure everything is perfect,just like Simon likes it.The last thing Tamara can do is to dissapoint Simon,the consequences will be to dear for her to pay.Guest arrive,and soon what should be a pleasant dinner change to tension filled chore.One guest is missing,is she late or was she already here?
Where to start,my first impresion was yes,this is something I want to read,and it was a quick and tension filled read.Yet it fall short for me,as I was just bored.Simon with his scholar genius mind was a hard character to read.Tamara not feeling well most of the dinner,portrayed as this weak girl that Simon have power over.I wish there was a better explanation as how the dynamics come to play in the past.The language in this book was rich,description of what and who was feeling interesting,the manipulation of behavior and events disturbing.But like I said I was bored most of the time,I guess it was just not for me.

I can't remember leaving a bad review before but if I can save someone from the pain of reading this book I will be content. This is easily the single most overwritten novel I have ever read. I was intrigued by the "for fans of Donna Tartt" blurb and The Dinner Party does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. The whole premise is implausible to say the least. The pace is glacial. Entirely lacking in three dimensional characters and conversations that are describe without being illustrated by, say, dialogue. The same ground is covered again and again without any progress. I kept reading in hopes that there would be some clever twist or denouement to justify the torpid bulk. There wasn't. On a final note, the proofreading, or lack thereof, is appalling. It smacks of something just shoved into the world without any care or craft whatsoever.

Very slow paced
Repetitious - description of Tamara kept repeating
Simon and Tamara were weird. Very weird.
At about the 50% mark I was saying what the heck am I reading??
I don’t know the point of the story and don’t care enough to think any more about it.
I knew what they were eating as soon as the cook talked about it. What was the point of that? I don’t think I understood what the author was trying to accomplish. Sorry.

Thank you for a copy of this book! I did enjoy this one but I felt like it somehow lacked in the thriller aspect of the book.

Unfortunately has lots or errors and repeats...like one of the main characters being referred to as her when it was made clear it was a guy...?
