This book was the best Arc I have read. I enjoyed the storyline and plot, every chapter flowed beautifully and there was never a moment in my mind that was anticipating the ending. This is a must read five star book!

Tristan and the Magestria Review | Cozy Fantasy with Cute Ideas but Lacking Momentum

I went into Tristan and the Magestria genuinely excited. The premise—a cozy fantasy adventure featuring pirates, magic, romance, and queer representation—felt completely up my alley. Unfortunately, while I didn’t hate the book, I also didn’t love it. In the end, it landed somewhere firmly in the middle: cute at times, but ultimately too slow and underwhelming to fully invest in.

Cozy Fantasy That Feels Too Drawn Out

The biggest issue for me was the pacing. The novel leans heavily into slice-of-life storytelling, which can absolutely work in cozy fantasy when paired with strong character dynamics or compelling world-building. However, here it felt like very little actually happened for most of the book.

The story follows Tristan as he journeys aboard a pirate ship transporting the powerful cinder flower to a coronation while mages remain under threat. On paper, it sounds exciting, but the execution lacked urgency and momentum. Most of the meaningful plot development doesn’t arrive until the final quarter of the novel, making the first half feel stretched thin.

I found myself skimming sections because the narrative simply wasn’t pulling me in. The book could have benefited from being far more concise, tightening the slower slice-of-life moments to create a stronger sense of progression.

Characters and Chemistry

There were aspects of the characters I liked. Tristan’s love of smutty pirate romance novels was genuinely charming, and the magical mice—revealed to be powerful former mages—were easily one of the cutest and most memorable elements of the story.

That said, I never became emotionally invested in the main cast. While Tristan and Captain Wren are positioned as the central romance, their chemistry felt surprisingly flat to me. In fact, Tristan seemed to have stronger chemistry with the hostess aboard the ship than with Wren herself.

The romance never fully sold me on their connection, which made it difficult to become invested in the emotional stakes of the story.

The Queer Representation

One of my biggest frustrations came from the marketing. The book is promoted as a queer rom-com cozy fantasy, but the queer representation felt incredibly minimal within the actual story.

There are references to attraction across genders and mentions of past same-sex relationships, but those moments felt brief and largely peripheral rather than integral to the narrative or romance itself. Because the queerness was emphasized so heavily in the marketing, I expected it to play a much more central role in the story and character dynamics.

As a result, the representation felt underdeveloped compared to how prominently it was advertised.

Writing Style and Atmosphere

The novel definitely has cozy fantasy vibes, and there are moments where the atmosphere works well. The pirate setting, magical elements, and quieter character interactions create a soft, comforting tone that fans of low-stakes fantasy may enjoy.

However, the writing never fully hooked me. I wanted more tension, stronger emotional connections, and a clearer sense of direction earlier in the story. Compared to other cozy fantasies like Legends & Lattes and Bookshops & Bonedust, this one lacked the same balance of charm, pacing, and character investment that made those stories so engaging for me.

Final Thoughts

Tristan and the Magestria had elements I appreciated—cute magical mice, a cozy atmosphere, and some fun pirate-inspired moments—but overall, it felt too slow and emotionally flat to leave much of an impact.

I kept waiting for the story to truly come together, but by the time the plot finally gained momentum, it was too late for me to feel fully invested. Readers who enjoy extremely low-stakes, slice-of-life fantasy may connect with it more than I did, but personally, I needed more substance, stronger chemistry, and tighter pacing.

Overall, I’d give it 3 stars. Not terrible by any means—just not the right fit for me.

(I was given an advanced copy of this book from the author, and all thoughts/opinions are my own and voluntarily provided)

“Here, magic was a living breathing thing that could make a ship fly across the sea, could fight off an evil pirate, return strength to a battered body. It was powerful, and meaningful, and it filled him up in a way he didn’t know it was possible to feel. He realized being on this ship, with these people, was starting to change him, and he had no idea what to do about it.”

Reading Tristan and the Majesteria was so much fun! The cozy creativity of this story is unlike any other I’ve read.

Tristan is a huge white flag. He's morally sound, kind, protective, goofy in a cute way, and unaware of how good looking he is. His transformation from a good-boy academic soldier to an adventurous magical pirate was really fun. I love the strong found family vibes in this story, and the way that Tristan went from being put down for his beliefs by those who were supposed to support him, to being welcomed as part of a fun-loving pirate crew. The romance between him and Wren grew slowly and naturally, with sweet, innocent vibes. His journey was incredibly uplifting from start to finish.

I personally love creature magic, and the talking Majesteria mice were adorably funny. They were definitely my favorite part of this story! Especially Chica - just a silly, rotund little mouse with magical gifts. All three mice added a whimsical, fairytale-esque feel to the story, and so much comedic value. Their obsession with cheese made me giggle, and it was really fun to be able to read from their POV.

This book has a strong underlying moral of acceptance. There's personal transformation with Tristan, magically gifted talking mice, romance between all genders, and a lovable non-binary side character. There is so much love and positivity in the pages of this book; it was a light, fun, easy read with adventure and laughter, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a well-written, magical rom-com.

Thank you for gifting me a copy of this book, Corwynn & Rattle the Stars PR! ❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ | character development, chaos, and CHEESE!

This book was positively magical, a wonderful blend of comedy and seriousness! Follow Tristan, Marigold, Edwina, Chica, and the entire crew of The Snapdragon was fun, playful, and action-packed!

Rosewood has a really great sense of timing and pacing with her writing, the story was easy to follow and didn’t feel like it dragged! The balance of character interactions and magical action-packed endeavors was pleasant, I truly enjoyed the development of the characters- especially Tristan- the most!!! Seeing Tristan truly find himself throughout the story and discover his true wants and needs while still sticking true to his love for being a Majesteria Handler made me very satisfied with the boo/ conclusion.

Another thing I absolutely ADORED about this book was the diverse representation- BRAVO!! It’s always so refreshing and makes me smile to see queer representation in books :) I truly enjoyed the fact that this wonderful, magical world was like “yeah, people are who they are, we love it.” BECAUSE YES!!! Basel actually turned out to be one of my favorites, they’re so silly, loveable, and charismatic! If I could drink, I would definitely try one of their cocktails!

My only true critique is there were a few VERY minor plot holes that confused me (some conversations that were a little unfinished), and a few grammatical and editing errors that could easily be patched with another revision. Nothing too major, but noticeable enough for me to lose my flow of reading for a minute (hence why I docked .5 off the rating)

Overall, this book was magically addictive!! Give Rosewood’s novel a read if you love some light fluff, magic and mayhem, and LOTS of cheese (I was so hungry reading and reviewing this that I went a grabbed a Babybel cheese with some sliced strawberries, LOL!)

I went into Tristan and the Majesteria expecting a fun, whimsical adventure - pirate ships, magical mice, and a sweetly flustered hero who loves romance novels. Tristan himself is lovely: a bit ditzy, endlessly enthusiastic, and the kind of character you can’t help but root for as he stumbles into his grand adventure. The Snapdragon crew, too, are a fun bunch - over-the-top in a delightful, swashbuckling way.

But then there are the Majesteria mice. I get that they’re meant to be magical and quirky, but their constant cheese obsession and tiny sword-waving antics just didn’t work for me. I'll be honest, I found them quite irritating. It felt like something aimed at a much, much, younger audience, and after not very long, the 'jokes' started to wear thin. I found myself skimming through their bits, waiting for the story to get back to Tristan and the crew, who were much more interesting.

The ending was also a bit of a letdown. After all the build-up for this big bad villain, it felt a bit anticlimactic. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the book, because I did in parts. Tristan’s character and the pirate adventure were quite charming and kept me engaged. But it also felt like the book couldn’t quite decide who it was for. One minute, it’s a playful, slightly campy rom-com for adults, the next, we've got kid-friendly gags. That made me a bit squeamish.

I think this just probably wasn’t quite the right fit for me. But if you like lighthearted fantasy with a dash of romance and silliness it might be right up your street.

Thanks to NetGalley and Studio Corwynn for the ARC. All thoughts are my honest opinion.

I love nautical books so much and was very excited for this read. The nautical aspects of this book were my favorite part, the scenes were descriptive and I felt like I was on the ship.

I had a hard time appreciating the characters of this book, I know the mice were meant to be loveable and quirky but I found myself annoyed by their actions and lack of self awareness. At times they even came off as rude and it was frustrating to read their interactions with Tristian.

I felt a little let down by Tristian and the mice’s abilities, in the beginning they’re talked about in a way that made them seem so powerful. However it’s quickly discovered that they are fairly weak. I thought this was to leave room for improvement but they didn’t seem to grow in magical ability.

The book felt slower in the middle, I expected there to be a grand finale where there’s an epic battle scene with the villain and to rescue the mice… and there really wasn’t. Felt like the author got bored with writing it.

I reread the last few chapters twice because I felt like I was missing something. Tristian’s messed up supervisor didn’t really get in trouble- or at least not that we got to read and enjoy. I felt like we should have gotten to read about his punishment more or trial.

Finally I am confused on why this is advertised as a queer romance. There was barely any focus on the queer relationships in this book. The most focus falls on Tristan which I understand he is the main character but I expected Tristian to be queer with the title.

4.5 ⭐️

Ugh, I absolutely adored this book. It’s such a cozy story- a queer pirate adventure with talking mice… honestly, what’s not to love? And that final line about cheese and never having enough? Chef’s kiss. I deeply appreciate characters (human or otherwise) who understand just how incredible cheese is, lol.

Tristan was the ultimate cinnamon roll MMC- I genuinely couldn’t get over how adorable he was. I loved seeing him grow into himself and ultimately find both his own path and his found family. I can so clearly picture them all sailing off together, happily eating their weight in strawberries.

I know the book is called Tristan and the Majesteria, but I found myself really wanting more of Captain Wren. She was such a compelling character, and I’m sure she has plenty of tales to tell- same goes for her crew. I honestly loved them all.

That said, I do wish we had gotten to see Blanchard get what was coming to him. From page one, he was just the worst, and I was definitely hoping for a bit of vengeance after how he treated Tristan and the Majesteria. Not going after them?! Unacceptable.

I also wouldn’t have minded a bit more action toward the end, but I get it- this is a cozy story, and big battles aren’t exactly cozy, lol.

Overall, I loved this book and would absolutely recommend it.

Wow. This is the book that I’m never going to forget.

Tristan and the Majesesteria is one of those stories that will have you smiling, but also on the edge of your seat all the way throughout the book. From the moment I read the summary of this book, I had a feeling that it was going to be a good book. It had exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t put this book down, and on a few occasions, I lost track of time because I was so invested in the story. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the end. There was part of me that wished there were another book, because I wanted to see what happened next with Tristan, Majesteria, and Wren.

The world-building and the magic system in this story were incredible, unlike anything that I have read before. That was one of my favorite parts of the book. The way that Corwynn described everything was so vivid and felt so real. I loved Tristan and Majesteria right from the beginning, and the bond between them. Some of the things Majesteria did and said made me laugh. I also loved the bond that Tristan and Majesteria had with Captain Wren and her crew; they felt as if they were part of the crew.

I love stories that feature pirates, and I had read couple in the past. This one was one of the best. I also loved the cover and the title; it draws you to the story. I’m so glad that I got chance to read this book. I would highly recommended it for any fantasy and rom com fans!

I received an arc for this through Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

2⭐️ DNF’D but it may be the genre is not the right fit for me.

Tristan and the Majesteria is a cosy, gentle fantasy with a warm-hearted protagonist and an endearing cast of supporting characters. Tristan himself is immediately likeable, a slightly flustered, pirate-novel-obsessed academic thrust into an adventure he didn’t entirely sign up for. There’s a sweetness to the world building that will appeal to readers looking for something low stakes and comforting.
That said, I found the pacing uneven in the early chapters, with some lengthy internal monologue interrupting the momentum just as the story was getting started. The prose style is straightforward and accessible, though at times it leans toward telling over showing, which meant I didn’t always feel fully immersed in the world.
I should note that cosy fantasy isn’t typically my genre.I tend to gravitate toward epic fantasy, romantasy, and science fiction, so it’s entirely possible that readers who love comfort reads and character-led adventures will find exactly what they’re looking for here. If the premise appeals to you and you enjoy books in the vein of gentle, whimsical fantasy, this may well be worth your time.
A solid debut for the right audience, even if it didn’t quite land for me personally.

Tristan is a Majesteria handler at Teakley Academy, and he helps some of the most powerful mages in the world, who just happen to be 3 mice. When they are needed at the Queen’s Coronation Ceremony they need to travel on a pirate ship to get there. Tristan meets the eclectic crew of the ship, including the mysterious and beautiful Captain Wren.

This book is a delightful and fun rom-com and adventure book that is also very queer. It definitely fit the bill for a swashbuckling read.

I loved all the characters in this! Tristan was a great main character and I loved his journey from naive academic to a bit more adventurous. The Majesteria were adorable and great as well! I loved their occasional chapters.

The Snapdragon crew was delightful and so fun to read. They definitely fit with the found family trope in all the best ways.

Overall the story was really good too! The author did a good job of balancing world building with the plot, I never felt like I was overly bogged down in heavy world building but didn’t feel lost in the world either. The beginning was a bit slow plot wise and the ending was a bit fast but this is a very minor critique.

This is a perfect fun pirate adventure book with a great mix of plot and characters!

A warm hug of a book.

Tristan is a soft, sweet cinnamon roll of a man who cares for his charges (three magical anthropomorphic mice with extraordinary powers and a strong opinion about cheese OBVIOUSLY) like the best kind of father figure. He's a passionate fan of pirate romance novels and suddenly finds himself living a nautical adventure. All the hugs to this charming soft boy.

And of course, the crew on the ship is exactly the kind of amazing found family you'd expect. I wish we knew even more about Wren because she is a fascinating character. Watching Tristan and his mice grow into lovers of adventure over the course of this story is just genuinely delightful. The mice are hilarious and feisty and I adored them. Them talking with other magical animals about how silly their humans are was hilarious.

The queernorm world-building is woven through everything so naturally that it just feels like the world is the way it should be. If only ours were as lovely as this one.

Whimsical, funny, and so full of cozy heart. A fantastic palate cleanser that has absolutely earned a permanent spot in my comfort reads. This one lives in my heart.

Thanks so much to Rattle the Stars PR and the author for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

✨Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🦋This book was one of the most whimsical and fun stories I’ve read. Romance, tension, pirates, magical mice…. and cheese!!! Lots of cheese!!!🧀 Thank you Corwynn Rosewood and Rattle the Stars for making me a part of the team, I’m truly l honoured to have been reading Tristan’s story early🥹🥹🫶🫶

✨Tristan was a character I found myself connecting with: his desire to explore, to discover all that’s beyond the walls of his profession, and what the world has to offer. And to see whether the stories he reads are true!!✨

🌸While entrusted with a crucial mission, accompanied by the Majesteria, he embarks on a journey that had me kicking my feet and blushing more times than I can count.🥹

💙It wasn’t only the setting of the story (which was incredibly whimsical), but the way in which each character brings something incredible and interesting to the pages: pirates, healers…. The stories every character shares are truly magical, and the connections they build even more so🥹

✨This story was unique, magical, and refreshing, and I can’t wait for everyone to get lost in the pages like i did, to feel a part of Tristan’s journey, and to see this amazing world that Corwynn Rosewood has created✨

I'm going to be honest, I don't usually love reading about pirates. Playing games about pirates? Definitely. But reading, not really. I'm going to be honest again, this book might have changed that entirely for me. This book was the perfect blend of an adventure with pirates mixed in with a lot of cozy, home feeling. I'm talking tea time, magical talking animals, just good heartfelt vibes.

This story was absolutely magical, silly, whimsical, and I was genuinely sucked into it. I absolutely adored every single character in the book (outside of the villains of course), and I especially loved the turtle - no spoilers on that though, you have to read it! Tristan was a delight to read about, and I loved his growth from the beginning to the end. Rosewood did a phenomenal job showing the growth without having to explain every little way he changed.

Rosewood also did a wonderful job with the pacing of the book. I never felt bored when reading a chapter or anything. It felt spot on with how much character building was needed on top of the adventuring.

Overall, I will absolutely be rereading this book! If not for Tristan and the Snapdragon, then even just for the mice <3

I loved this book! Thanks to rattle the stars pr, of which I am an influencer, for the opportunity to read and review this book. Tristan is a Majesteria handler. He and his 3 best friends, Marigold, Edwina, and Chica, who are magical talking mice by the way, are tasked with transporting a very special magical artifact to the Queens coronation. They’ve hired a former pirate vessel and with absolute secrecy set off on their voyage. Along their journey they see amazing places and creatures, make incredible friendships, and encounter things they’d never expect. Of course shenanigans ensue and maybe even a little romance. This is really the perfect cozy fantasy. Anyone who enjoys magic, pirates, adventure and great queer rep will love this book!

The e-book, paperback, and hardcover of Tristan and the Majesteria is available now on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Thank you Rattle the Stars PR for the ARC!

This was a cute read. Not overly heavy or cumbersome to navigate. Which I do appreciate. I haven't enjoyed a nice pirate/nautical tale in a minute, which made this read refreshing from my usual reads.

The mice were sassy and as a person who likes to take cruises this was a relatable adventure.

I didn't have a lot of affinity with the characters. It lacked a true coziness for the book to be deemed a truly "cozy read" for me, and I'm not quite sure I personally would define this as a queer romance at all. This book read more as Ally-ship to me with different characters having different partnerships, but the main characters not really focusing their energies on those particular inkling. It just didn't read that way for me.

Overall, I thought it was a quaint read. A solid 3 of 5

Thank you to Corwynn Rosewood and Rattle the Stars for this ARC copy!! I am so grateful!

First I want to say this book reminded me of Jack and the Never Land Pirates so the nostalgia was hitting... A LOT (lol) But this was a good fantasy pirate read. The writing was also amazing. Very immersive, one of the main things I want in a fantasy read. The amount of times I thought I was on the ship, or about to cast a spell😂 (I may have gone delusional while reading)

The majesteria mice were very needy but they're talking mice... I don't think you can expect much else. The journey was long and the ending was a little meh but everything else was good. I also think that the romance and LGBTQ+ representation was more of a sub plot/genre but I'm bias for bi characters so automatic 10's for me!!

I hope to read some more soon!!

This was such a fun and quick cozy read. We have adorable headstones magical mice, a golden retriever mc that finds his voice, a strong fmc, cast of funny pirates, and little action with high stakes. I’m a fan of the cozy fantasy genre and this landed for me. It’s a little light on the romance and some of the scenes were just for fun and didn’t play too much into the larger plot, but that gave the story a whimsical feel. The larger romance is the growth of Tristan to find himself, his voice, and desires. I could feel his awkward fumbling and stumbling into himself until he finally emerges as the version of himself he always knew he wanted to be. The ending felt a little abrupt, but I’m hoping it’s a bridge to more stories. Overall, a strong 3.5-4⭐️ and a fun read!

Grab a big cup of tea and an even bigger cheese plate and cozy up with this enchanting romantic comedy.

I loved this Rom-Com fantasy stand alone. Not your typical Romantasy book, definitely leans more towards a cozy romance novel with adventure on the enchanted seas.

The pirate captain is a strong FMC falling for the bashful gorgeous academic who is secretly transporting powerful mages, who happen to be mice to the royal coronation.

What a super cute and cozy read. I absolutely devoured this! Pirates, magical mice, handsome he's, she's and they's, oh my! Tristan, our golden retriever on an MMC was the cutest thing. He's so relatable because of his anxiety and sometimes self doubt, but he's fierce and loyal and brave, and I absolutely loved him!

The Majesteria, the three bold, opinionated, hilarious magical mice were the star of the show. They were so funny but also brave in the face of danger. They were easily my favorite.

I found this to be such a feel good fantasy. With not a lot of complexity, it was just an enjoyable read from the get go. It made me smile in a lot of places.

The concept of the Majesteria was just a totally gripping element to this book. Who doesn’t love tiny magical mice who also have the element of humour.

Mad Richard brought the intensity into the book. Which made for intense chapters and a fast paced ending.

The crew of The Snapdragon are all heroes, and I loved each and every one of them.

This is such a cute and cozy whimsical read! It has pirates, romance, magic, and full of adventure. The crew and the Majesteria are everything. I loved all of their personalities and loved the found family vibes. I will say, i felt like there was a lot of unnecessary filler in the story but it was cute nonetheless.
Chica, is definitely my spirit animal. Always wanting to eat and sleep. 😅 marigold and her adventurous side. Edwina, and her always trying to disapate the tension between all of them when it was needed. Overall, it was a wonderful read.

3.5 if that was an option for Goodreads.

I enjoyed the whimsical, cozy, & comfy novel that it was. Riding the seas, the cute mice, the world building was decent as well. It possesses a lot of good elements. I especially enjoyed the fact that this was a Queer rom-com just as it should be as pirates out on the sea. 😉

Unfortunately, I felt there was something missing. I wasn't as immersed into their world as I wanted to be.

Tristan and the Magestria had such a fun cozy fantasy premise with pirates, magic, romance, and queer rep, and there were definitely charming moments throughout. While the pacing was slower than I personally prefer and the story took a while to fully pick up, I still appreciated the cozy atmosphere and the potential of the world and characters. Overall, a cute and comforting fantasy that just needed a bit more momentum for me.

This was the cutest cozy fantasy that I have read in a long time and I hope there is a second one coming! With the current resurgence into cozy fantasy, this book is a great fit and I would highly recommend for any pirate lovers! You cannot but help get lost in the story with an easy-reading writing style that guides you through this world.
