~ Julian ~ Darkness had been my closest companion for the last three years. Paralyzed from the waist down due to a car accident, I’d put the more intimate aspects of my life away and concentrated on running my company, becoming a ruthless businessman.
I never expected the drunk man who stumbled into my hotel room to bring that part back to life. It defied medical convention. It defied all logic. It also defied any objects I had to keeping a man I barely knew. When morning came and I suggested marriage, I didn’t know if I was crazy or just trying to chase after a dream, but I was willing to find out, even if it meant redefining all of my previous ideas about what a marriage was supposed to look like.
~ Connor ~ My parents betrayed me, selling me to an evil man without my knowledge. Drugged, I managed to escape and found refuge in the hotel room of Julian Montgomery, a wealthy man in a wheelchair. One night of passion and I found myself married.
When the man that bought me refused to give up, I saw the true power behind the rich businessman I had married on a whim. Julian was ruthless and commanding, gathering his forces, friends, and business acquaintances to keep me safe.
As we navigated our unexpected marriage and fought the man after me, we were forced to confront our pasts and a world that only wanted to accept us on their terms. Together, we forged a unique bond that challenged social norms and reshaped our future.
I can't say enough of this book!!! It was fantastic amazing awesome & as said above you'll be on the edge of your seat - and I read it in one setting!!!!! The mystery the betrayal the action the love & sex is all top notch as is the loyalty of your frat brothers!!! Thank you so much can't wait for #10 - hope there is a #10 Lori
The usual plot problems as in the past few books but i would have still enjoyed it except at the end the author employed the fixed a disability to give a happy ending and I can’t forgive this. It’s the same type of erasure as when all gay characters must be killed, but only for disabled persons. If I wanted to read that I would have picked up a FM book.

Julian, paralysed after an accident, has shut down emotionally until Connor—drugged and fleeing a dangerous man—accidentally ends up in his hotel room. One unexpected night leads to an impulsive marriage that becomes their only protection. As Connor’s pursuer closes in, Julian uses his power and connections to keep him safe. Together, they confront their pasts and build an unlikely bond that challenges expectations and reshapes both their lives.
This story was an unexpectedly tender, high‑stakes romance about two men who collide at the darkest moments of their lives and somehow become each other’s safest place. Julian has been living in emotional shadow since the accident that left him paralysed, convinced that intimacy is something he’ll never feel again. Connor arrives in his life terrified, drugged, and betrayed by the people who should have protected him. Their one night together shouldn’t mean anything… yet it changes everything. Their impulsive marriage becomes a lifeline—first for survival, then for healing. What moved me most was how fiercely Julian protects Connor, not as something to own but as someone worth fighting for. And how Connor, despite everything he’s endured, brings Julian back to life in ways he thought were lost forever. This story blends danger, vulnerability, and devotion into a romance that feels both fragile and powerful. It’s about reclaiming yourself, choosing love even when it’s messy, and finding strength in the person who sees you when the world refuses to. Full of emotions and feelings - Connor's family were just awful. This was an MM story with mature content.
I very rarely leave one star reviews. Really only in exceptional circumstances and this book honestly warrants it.
To preface, I have been reading Aja’s books for years. They are not realistic, but that’s okay. Neither are action flicks and they’re still fun. That’s what these books used to be. A little silly and rather unlikely (if not outright impossible) but they weren’t so ridiculous that they became obnoxious. This book was obnoxiously ridiculous.
First, the MCs meet when one of them is drugged (against his will) and then proceed to have sex. Whether the drugged MC wanted it or not, consent could not occur and the sober MC literally thinks that and then decides that the fact he could get hard (despite being paralysed and thinking it was impossible) was sufficient to make that clear lack of consent okay. It was SA clear and simple.
Secondly, the disabled character is miraculously cured in the final 5% of the book. It comes out of nowhere and is beyond ridiculous and frankly offensive. Apparently he could only have a HEA if he was (impossibly) cured because disabled people can’t be happy right? Someone in a wheelchair could never be happy u less they got rid of the wheelchair right? Ugh. It was offensive and beyond ridiculous.
The writing is atrocious. This was never an author who wrote truly beautiful prose but their books were enjoyable. Now the repetition is constant (removing it would get rid of half the word count at least) but what makes it worse is the repetition is inconsistent. It’s like the author had memory lapses from one page to the next. MC hears bad news in the kitchen but then it’s said he heard it in the bathroom. MC spends PAGES talking about he can’t believe his family would drug him but then is horrified to learn his family drugged him. Every page were reminded that the MC is a big time CEO which apparently also makes him capable of running military style ops (despite never being in the military). This needed a major edit and serious revisions. It should never have gone to print as is.
I really hope whatever is going on with this author resolves itself. They were a comfort read for me and I’ve wasted days trying to slog through this (and the latest from their Soldiers of Fortune series which was even worse on the ridiculousness and massive inconsistencies in the plot). I hope they go back to what they did so well, fun, a little silly, action books with a sweet romance. This was not it and I wish I’d DNF’d.
This was book 9 in the "Marriage Mayhem" series. Connor Matthews is called to a family dinner by his parents he knows that something is going on but he doesn't know what. When he is drugged his mother tries to get him to go with a man he doesn't know he runs. Connor hides in a hotel room of a silver fox Julian Montgomery. This was a pretty good read Julian was in a car accident 3 years ago and was paralyzed from the waist down he didn't think he would ever have sex again until Connor stirred something in him. Connor learns that his parents sold him to be trafficked and experimented on. I loved that Julian put Connor first they got married. I love Kyue and how protective he is. The ending of this book was a surprise. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Always good to see the guys rally together for a common cause. No tormenting if Detective Waterston and Kyue got to play!!! Julian and Connor are a beautiful duo with good intentions and chemistry!
3.5⭐ I read this series with a mind set that it's telenovela. This installation has wheelchair user representation, but someone sometimes forgets that MC is paralyzed and not everything that he does is possible. I noticed that the sentence structure was better edited than in previous books, but had quite a bit of repeated information sometimes even on the next page.
