If the part of Invest for Better that hooked you the most is digging into your (and other people’s) money story, you may enjoy this book.

Unapologetic Wealth by Marcia Dawood is a mindset-driven book about money, power, and choice, with a clear focus on women and the emotional baggage many of us carry around finances. Dawood argues that wealth is not just about dollars or net worth. It is about time, health, relationships, and agency. She walks through how money beliefs are inherited, how guilt keeps people playing small, and how redefining wealth can lead to a calmer and more intentional life. The book blends personal stories, history, and reflection exercises to help readers rewrite their money story from the inside out.
The tone of the book felt like a thoughtful conversation rather than a lecture. Dawood writes with warmth and honesty, and I appreciated how little posturing there was. She does not pretend money is simple or neutral. She names the awkwardness, the shame, and the silence around it. That made me feel seen. I also liked that she avoided flashy promises. Women are generations behind when it comes to comfort with money because we were handed a different set of scripts: save, be careful, don't be greedy, focus on philanthropy. Wealth-building was someone else's domain. Marcia understands this at a bone-deep level and this book is her answer to it.
What she does so well is take topics that should feel heavy like wealth management, investing, risk, returns, portfolio strategy, and make them instantly accessible without dumbing them down. She writes like someone who genuinely wants you to understand, not someone who wants to impress you with how much she knows. There's a warmth to her explanations that I think only comes from having had these conversations with thousands of women who were told, implicitly or explicitly, that this wasn't for them.
The mindset work and the tactical work are woven together, which is exactly right. You can't just hand someone a checklist if they still believe deep down that they don't deserve a seat at the table. Marcia addresses both layers without making either feel like homework.

This isn't just another book about personal finance. It really is a manual on how to change your relationship with money as you explore family lineage and limiting beliefs, the history of women and money and why that can make finances seem hard, and money patterns and stories. I've been deep in the exploration of how to heal my relationship with money, working with coaches, reading books, trying to figure out what I need to shift in order to build significant wealth when that hasn't been my path so far or that of my family. Unapologetic Wealth is full of interesting stories, unique insights and a path to a new experience with money and wealth. One of the most interesting and helpful books I’ve read on the topic. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to change their money story and live with more freedom around money.
