Torsten Gunn exchanged his noble birthright for a rugged life on the road, surviving by his wits and the deadly precision of his pistols. When a tyrant strikes a dark bargain to seize power, Torsten’s exile comes to a violent end. No longer content to wander, he unleashes a dormant power to protect the lost and challenge the corrupt highborns who cast him aside.
I made it through 100 pages, and it was no fun. There is pretty much zero world building in those pages, and the pencil sketch that is the MC and the likely first LI is almost non-existent, despite dual POV viewpoints.
The MC is a western hunter. Usually not bounty, but he's known for his ability to find what others can't. That could be cattle, missing persons, lost items, or whatever. He apparently has some sixth sense ability that isn't really explained and barely shown over those 100 pages.
The probably first LI is a criminal gang leader that has magical abilities of some sort. She lights her cigarette on fire once using her magic. And once she started rolling her own cigarette, I immediately disliked her. I don't care if it's "theme appropriate", I don't want to read about the MC or his LIs smoking.
Once the man that hired the MC to capture and bring back the potential LI fails to show up and changes the deal, I was done.
