On the upper decks will be some of the wealthiest people from planet Earth. Some are famous, others infamous. They will live in close quarters with experts and specialists from a variety of practical fields that are needed to help build a colony from scratch. The lower decks are packed tight with people from every nation on planet Earth. Chosen by a worldwide lottery, they are desperate to escape to a new world full of opportunity and promise. And while every passenger was supposed to be vetted, some have gamed the system in their favor and have little regard for rules of any kind. They will all be under the jurisdiction of the Special Investigation Unit. Part SWAT team, part Intelligence squad, the SIU will be tasked with solving crimes on the massive spaceship where there are a million places to hide, but no escape.

I don’t generally read law and order books. But this one was okay for the most part. The things that bothered me were the ease with how the criminals got aboard. I mean the one guy says he has gang tattoos all over his body but that doesn’t raise a red flag. Then how they simply replaced some people. What. Is everyone an orphan or something? Then there’s the guy who cobbled together a computer and hacks into a state of the art super computer. I guess his gang was just too cheap to get him a computer. Sure. The fact that the gang leader who wants to be under the radar. Comes onboard with a family and ditches them within minutes. Also the fact that the ship itself has blind spots is unbelievable. I mean this is a spaceship where if anything goes wrong everyone dies. The story itself was okay. I liked the characters. I just found the whole concept flawed

hidden death lurks

A very large spaceship with hundreds of thousands of people travelling for two years to a new planet to start a colony.

Enclosed space and hidden death lurks often in plain sight.

Didn’t want to put this one down. So many sub stories all relating to the main story. Excellent characters.

Subterfuge and spontaneity cause many dangers for the trip and law enforcement.

Edge of the seat entertainment with softer moments counterbalancing the tension briefly.

I quite liked the first dozen chapters as we get to know the people in the team, but I wasn't as keen on going through the same with the groups of criminals, gangs and hitmen that were also on the Colossus, especially when the ‘gang’ was really a bit of a caricature.
The rest of the book wasn’t too bad, with a couple of interesting incidents, but I wasn’t convinced by the ’World building’ and overall I don’t think the author did justice to either the SciFi or Crime elements of the story.

Refreshing and quick read!

Nice to see something different come to my attention while browsing in my Kindle App. Like I said above the book is hard to put down. The SIU is a great idea to put on a colony ships. The main characters are well fleshed out and are likable right away. I found my self cheering for them as they handle their case. Stu was an incredible idea as I love dogs! Well done Mr. Neighbors!

Law and Order

So I was bit iffy about a sci-fi police procedural, love sci-fi not a big fan of police procedural, but to my surprise I really enjoyed this book ,interesting characters, great world, good action a page turner.A good book makes you want to know what happens to these people and I do.I want to know if they get to the colony and there must be crime to fight on there as well ,there's a good series building here ,I look forward to sequals.

Well thought out.

Good, the characters are all likeable and the story line in highly plausible , things are just heating up and the casualty list is climbing and they're all stuck on a vessel millions of miles from safety. The one thing that stands out is the complacency of the colony administers , any computer system can be hacked.

Great cop drama

Great read. It's not really a hard-core SciFi tale, but it provides an interesting background and some unusual restraints on the plot. I'm looking forward to the obvious sequel. This is pretty well edited. Nice job!

Novel and Intriguing Story

I had never considered the complications of possible crime on a large civilian space ship before. I found this concept novel and very intriguing to read. I am really looking forward to the next book in the sweries!

Not a bad read for a first in a series, especially if you enjoy police procedural stories. I wouldn’t have minded a little more action and a bit more fleshing out of the characters. Perhaps more will come in the next book.

Life on a gigantic space ship (500,000 passengers and crew) is well thought out by the author and well presented. The cases are pretty run of the mill but the characters are personable. Looking forward to book 2.

Excellent read. Confused as to why ships cyber net isn't being alerted by police about probable infiltration into ship computer system.

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting and different. It put two types of book together that I wouldn't have thought of police procedural and sci-fi. I like both and it had never occurred to me how much crime there could be on a space ship.
