Bryan Lee O'Malley is a Canadian cartoonist. His first original graphic novel was Lost at Sea (2003), and he is best-known for the six-volume Scott Pilgrim series (2004 to 2010). All of his Scott Pilgrim graphic novels were published by Portland, Oregon-based Oni Press. In July 2014 his graphic novel Seconds was released by Ballantine Books. He is also a songwriter and musician (as Kupek and formerly in several short-lived Toronto bands).

I remember seeing Scott Pilgrim vs the Animation YEARS ago on youtube and falling in love, having no idea what was happening nor that there was a book series that explained it all. I started drawing Scott and copying the style from the video for my own characters, not knowing any of their names and thinking the animation was some kind of spinoff from Eddsworld.

a year or so later, I finally saw the movie at a sleepover (a friend pirated it because it wasn’t on streaming.. but the next week, it was put on Netflix). absolutely fell in love, bought the first 3 books. I reread this one, the first, over and over but never read any further.

when the tv show came out, I binged it all in one night when it cane out, staying up with my sister until midnight to start it when it released on Netflix.

idk why it took me so long, but I’m finally going to read the rest of the series since I’ve reread the first and there’s not much other media to consume. I’m way too big a fan of these characters to have never read the actual books.

After watching the animated series and the movie (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), I was intrigued to dive into the Scott Pilgrim universe created by Bryan Lee O’Malley. So I decided to read the graphic novel. And the first volume was a lot of fun. I also noticed how the film adaptation managed to capture the original’s visuals and dialogue so well. I won’t go into too much detail here because this is a series and each volume is interconnected, so it would be a bit of a hassle to review them one by one. Simply put, I love this universe. It’s so geeky and fun.

I haven’t read this in years, and I’m coming back to it before watching the show. What a great and easy-to-read book—I sped right through it. The dialogue flows so naturally and always leaves you wanting more. Scott is such a great character, and I’ll always be a fan of the Sex Bob-ombs. One… TWO… Three… Four!
